“It was meant to be, all of it. We were meant to be,” she told him quietly. “As for our children, they are far too young to even think about marriage.” They had waited a while before trying to have a child. Then they had issues getting pregnant after that, the first time. “It’s nice to know peace, isn’t it? To know that our children and our children’s children won’t ever know what it is to see their friends and family cut down by war.”
“That it is, little one. They deserve to never know the pain, but they will learn what came before so that they never repeat the mistakes of the past. I won’t allow all the hard work everyone did to be torn down by ignorance. We gave up a lot to get here, everyone did, and to lose it would be horrific.” Squeezing her closer to kiss her, he lifted his head when his name was bellowed. “Oh, have to go dance with the bride. Keep my seat warm, little queen.” Grinning, he gave her another kiss before hopping up and dashing off to take Morgan’s hand from Fintan. A few words were exchanged that had Morgan laughing and Fintan looking like he couldn’t quite decide what response to give.
Paisley watched Markus dance with Morgan. She leaned back and smiled. She rubbed her hand over her belly and spoke to the child within. “You will know peace and love. Life is good and so much better than it once was.” Paisley started to think about all that they’d had to overcome, the effort it had taken to bring all of the rebels against the crown to justice, but they had finally done it and now that they had, life was good for them. “You will only know love,” she told the child and looked at the friends and family that filled the room. She was happy. It had taken some time, but they had finally gotten to where they needed to be.
