“Nah, I still don’t get it, Lloyd. What are you saying?”

“You actually got away with murder! Is that clear enough for you? You killed Aaron Turner – which he rightly deserved, I might add – but you murdered him nonetheless and got away with it.”

“Who, me?” Adam acted as if completely innocent. “How could you believe such a thing?”

Lloyd noticed a twinkle in Adam’s eye. Was he playing mind games?

“It was self-defence, mate, nothing more than that – honest.” The moment that Adam said the word, honest, Lloyd knew that he was lying. “Check the reports, check with Bev Carmichael, talk to the CPS - they’ll all confirm it for you.”

Lloyd said nothing as he looked into Adam’s soul. “Yeah, right,” he replied as he gave him a knowing smile. “See you around, Adam. Take care, mate.”

  “You too, Lloyd.”

Both men knew the truth, but neither would breathe a word of it.

  THE END.

  Legal References

Laws in the UK change constantly, but at the time of writing this book, the following regulations were in force and were used as a reference:

  Case Law – Palmer v R, (1971) AC 814, R v McInnes, 55 Cr App R 551.

  Criminal Law Act 1967.

Sec 76 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008.

The CPS and NPCC issued a statement entitled, “Householders and the use of force against intruders’ (2008),” which clarifies the law with specific emphasis on matters relating to force used against those illegally entering a person’s home.

  About the Author

Andrew Heasman was born in London, and has always had the travel-bug. Having joined the Royal Navy at the age of 20, he travelled the world, rising through the ranks to become a Petty Officer aboard the aircraft carrier, HMS Invincible.

His next career path saw him become a police officer in rural Lincolnshire. Patrolling the towns and countryside of the county, he faced difficult and dangerous situations alongside many lighter moments.

Finally, he gave it all up to become a SCUBA diving instructor, following the sun as he worked his way around the globe.

Having now got a taste for literature, and having far too much spare time on his hands, he has delved into the world of fiction novel writing. Where this venture will take him, only time will tell...

Book 1 of “The Crime Collection” is “Reflex Action: A Thrilling Crime Novel.” It is the first in a series of standalone stories with crime as a common theme.

  Nick Griffiths is missing!

Police officers do not just vanish off the face of the earth - not in sleepy rural Britain, not when they are on-duty, in the middle of a night shift. With no clues as to his whereabouts, every aspect of Nick’s apparently idyllic home-life, and his working relationships, would be scrutinised. Secrets would be uncovered, but would they give a clue as to his disappearance?

As a senior detective, DI Colin Peterson is appointed to head the team investigating the missing person case; however, all initial lines of enquiry seem to lead nowhere. Was he missing vital evidence? Was he even up to the task of being the SIO?

The focus of the investigation follows a more sinister path and enquiries lead to the brutal world of inner-city gang culture, drugs, and violence. What had Nick unwittingly stumbled upon?

As the mystery unfolds, the truth is not what was expected. Forced to examine his own past, DI Peterson faces a moral dilemma as he sets off on a crusade seeking justice and revenge.

Follow the twists and turns of the police investigation. Will Nick be found safely?

  A British police/crime thriller.

Book 1 of “The Memoir Series” is “Beyond the Waves: My Royal Navy Adventures.” It tells the first chapter in the life of the author, recounting his time serving as a member of Her Majesty’s Royal Navy.

As a child, the author dreamt of action, adventure, and foreign travel. At the age of 20, he took the first tentative steps towards achieving those goals; he joined Her Majesty’s Royal Navy as an Artificer Apprentice.

Beyond the Waves follows his progress from a naive recruit at HMS Raleigh, to a Petty Officer Weapons Engineer in charge of his own section aboard the aircraft carrier, HMS Invincible.

Join him as he travels the world from the frozen Arctic Circle, to the blistering heat of the Sahara; from the tranquil Caribbean Islands, to the mysteries of Oriental Japan.

Share his adventures as he encounters typhoons in the South China Seas, conducts Pirate Patrols, and has a close call with an IRA terrorist. Experience the excitement as he chases drug smuggling ships, gets attacked by fruit bats, and patrols the Persian Gulf.

This is a story of fun and excitement, and of voyages to foreign shores. Often humorous, it is the true story of Royal Navy life in the 80’s and 90’s. It is the story of my Navy Years...

Available NOW from Amazon Worldwide in Paperback and Kindle E-Book formats.

  ...

Book 2 of “The Memoir Series” is “Single-Crewed: My Life as a Police Officer.” It tells the second chapter in the life of the author, recounting his time serving as a police officer in the Lincolnshire Police Force.

Having travelled the world in the Royal Navy, the author was unable to settle into the slower pace of life as a civilian. He yearned for action and excitement. He missed the camaraderie of his former life. His search led him to the Lincolnshire Police Force...

Full of energy and enthusiasm, he became a Police Constable, patrolling the rural flatlands, towns and villages of the county. “Single-Crewed” follows his progress from a raw-recruit with an idealistic image of a police officer’s role, to a streetwise experienced officer, and tutor.

Share his adventures as he faces violence and aggression on the streets, becomes a member of the Riot Team, and works closely with colleagues in the Dog Section. Experience the thrill of high-speed pursuits, the excitement of foot-chases, and the fear of encounters with armed and dangerous suspects.

Forget the stereotypical image of the “British Bobby,” this is the true story of life as a Police Officer in 90’s Britain. Charting the high-points and the low-points of his career, it depicts life as a member of the thin-blue-line.

Available NOW from Amazon Worldwide in Paperback and Kindle E-Book formats.

  ...

Book 3 of “The Memoir Series” is “Gone Diving: My Adventures Above and Below the Waves.” It tells the third chapter in the author’s life, recounting his experiences travelling the world as a freelance diving instructor, and of the many adventures had along the way.

Have you ever wondered what life as a SCUBA Diving Instructor is really like?

Is it as glamorous a lifestyle as they say? Do they live-the-dream?

Follow the author as he evolves from a novice
diver, to become the owner of his own dive business. Travel the world, country to country, as he “chases-the-sun” - from the islands of Fiji and Australia in the east, to Central America and the Caribbean in the west.

Share his adventures above and below the ocean's surface:-

Experience the thrill of Shark encounters, the beauty of colourful Nudibranches, and the serenity of majestic Manta Rays. Embark upon marine conservation projects in the Seychelles and Belize, studying corals and exotic creatures.

Discover long forgotten Maya Temples hidden beneath dense rainforest, and climb an erupting volcano. Marvel at Uluru, live on a remote desert island, and survive a burning ship as it slips beneath the waves.

Experience the best, and the worst, of being a diving instructor...
