Since I know there’s no way he’d be against that idea, I grab his hardness in a firm hold and guide it to my entrance. My head lolls back as I push down on it, enjoying once again the feeling of being full of him. And the tortured growl escaping his lips tells me he enjoys it just as much.

“So fucking warm,” he says through a palpable need. “You taking me deep, baby? You like that?”

“I love it,” I admit. “I love it.”

“Good. Now be a good girl, and ride me.”

As it’s always done, his command triggers a hot jolt of overwhelming lust and need building between my legs. I love this domineering nature of his when we’re in bed. Complying to his requests has always been easy because it makes my own arousal grow so much that all I want is for him to take me roughly and make me scream his name until I can no longer speak.

So again, there’s no thinking before doing as I’m told. I push up and down on my knees, setting a quick pace straightaway. My breasts bounce around, and I find Jayce’s eyes on them when I look back at him. They’re burning with desire as they slide down my body. I start rolling my hips to feel his cock rubbing my walls and hitting those spots inside of me that I know will make me see dazzling stars.

God, I can’t begin to understand how I was able to endure his absence for so long without dying from missing him. And I’m not only talking about the physical side of our relationship. I missed everything about him. About us. I missed everything we once had. Talking to him about everything and anything, watching some stupid show on TV when we were too tired to do anything else, being on the back of his bike… I missed everything. I hope it’ll be safe soon enough for us to go on a ride, because I miss that almost more than anything else. Almost more than sex.

  Almost.

“That’s right. Move those hips, babe. Fuck me,” he orders though that’s what I’m already doing. “Your moans are killing me,” he carries on with a growl, then his voice deep with arousal warns me, “Gonna spill in you sooner than later.”

  “Almost… there. I’m almost…”

“Let me help with that,” he says when I trail off. His middle finger presses on the most sensitive spot between my legs, drawing circles on it in a steady rhythm. “I want you to come hard for me. I want to watch your face painted with ecstasy while your pussy clenches and drips around me.” My only answer is my pace accelerating even more. His dirty talk has always been the best way to toss me over the edge, and he knows it. “Yeah, baby, fuck me wild. You’re so hot when you ride my cock.”

He pants for air, sounding close to losing it, but his finger keeps working on me, only stopping its wonderful strokes on my swollen clit when my legs start shaking, announcing my impending orgasm. If it wasn’t for his hands, now gripping my hips so tightly it borders on painful, there’s no way I would be able to keep myself upright as the orgasm finally explodes through every last cell in my body. The dazzling stars behind my eyelids are so full of colors, and I can’t do anything other than enjoy their dance while Jayce locks me in place as he thrusts up into me a handful of times before roaring his own release.

The stars fade slowly until they eventually subside, and only when they’ve completely vanished from in front of my eyes do I open then. Leaning over, I place a kiss on Jayce’s wildly moving chest.

“Damn, woman. If this is the way you want to wake me up, you’re allowed to do it even earlier than 6am.”

“Be careful what you wish for,” I chuckle, kissing his hot skin again and again. “I love you,” I murmur as my lips and tongue kiss and lick their way up his neck.

Just as I reach his jaw, he grabs my chin between his thumb and index finger to make me look at him.

“You have no idea how much I needed to hear that,” he says, and I can see on his features and in his gorgeous green eyes that he has to fight hard to keep his emotion away from his voice. “I love you, too. Always have, and I will spend the rest of my life proving that to you.”

The kiss he then shuts my every thought down with is packed with emotion and intensity. It tells me more than words do. It’s worth a thousand of them. It tells me how wrong I was back on Thanksgiving. His love for me isn’t gone. It’s still there, as strong as it ever was. The only thing that’s been shattered into more pieces than I can count is the trust I used to give him unconditionally. And I think he knew that already, that’s why he told me last night that I needed to let myself get close to him again to be able to trust him again someday. We both know he’s responsible for this situation, but I also know that for the first time in a very long time, my heart is able to let go of the bitterness that was easier to feel than the hurt of having lost him. Now, I just have to work along with him to get that trust back. And I think that there’s only one way for me to get there. I have to get to a point where I can convince myself that Jayce isn’t going to leave me again. Especially if he fears for my safety. Which, let’s face the reality, is likely to happen considering the events of the past few months.

Erin’s attention suddenly flicks up from her lunch to a spot on my left, our conversation forgotten. I follow her gaze, and the chair next to me scrapes the floor of the cafeteria in an annoying sound as Liam pulls it out from under the table.

“Hey, baby sis. You good?” he asks but doesn’t look at me, too busy stealing a chip from my plate.

“Sure. What are you doing here?”

As though I didn’t even speak, he flashes a grin at Erin while he chews on the chip. Then he asks her, “All good beautiful?”

Erin’s porcelain cheeks blush with shyness just like every time Liam addressed her when I was stuck here as a patient.

  “Yes, thanks,” she answers politely.

“Good,” he nods while snatching another one of my chips and humming with delectation. “Who said hospitals have shitty food? Every meal I eat here is good.”

“Is that why you came by, or is there another reason?” I ask him, because I still don’t know what he’s doing here. “Has something happened?”

It’s doubtful he’d look so relaxed if something had happened, but considering they all have a target painted on their backs, I have to ask. And my voice must carry all the worry that just resurfaced thinking of some tragedy happening, because he’s quick to answer.

“Nothing happened. It’s all good, sweetheart. I’m just here to get some grocery list Jayce said you have. We’ve postponed taking on any prospects since we can’t exactly trust outsiders yet, which means I get stuck with groceries this week. Never had luck drawing straws,” he mutters. “Anyway, Jayce asked me to get whatever you needed to go buy with him today, so you guys don’t have to do it after work. He’s pissed at everyone because you didn’t get your Saturday off after all.”

I’m sort of pissed, too. I got a phone call from the hospital this morning, right after I woke Jayce up. A nurse called in sick, and I couldn’t turn them down after only one week.

  “Is he at the club?”

  “At the shop,” he answers.

“But weren’t you all not supposed to go out alone? It’s not safe, Liam.”

He and Jayce have both been overly protective since I’ve come back to Twican, even more so since I was shot. What’s hard for them to understand―and it always has been―is that I constantly dread seeing them hurt, too.

“Jayce is with Nate, and Melvin is flirting with some nurse somewhere. He lost at drawing straws, too,” he grins.

I nod, somehow reassured. But just slightly, because I’d rather know they were all safe at the club. Yeah, it’s a bit hypocritical considering I refuse to give up my job when Jayce and Liam ask me to.

“The list is in my purse, but I’m too lazy to go get it. It’ll be faster if I write it down again anyway,” I add while sliding the small notebook I always have on me out of the pocket of my scrubs.

“And did you already get something for Cam’s birthday? I suck at finding gifts. Especially for girls. You don’t think I could find something at
the grocery store and kill two birds with one stone, do you?”

Looking away from my list after writing only two items on it, I shoot him a glare.

He smirks. “Just kidding, sis. Though I do need your help.”

“Sorry, but I had a hard time finding something myself. Cam’s not a material girl, and she only goes shopping for clothes when she needs something. I organized a day at the spa Fiona goes to sometimes. She, Chloe, Lilly and Erin are coming, too. We’re going the day of her birthday, and then we’ll have dinner at the club.”

Picking at some more chips on my abandoned plate as I keep on writing down my list, he asks Erin, “So, you’ll be there at Cam’s birthday, too, then?”

“Yes, she invited me,” she simply says.

Cam has come by all week to have lunch with me, and she’s gotten to know Erin a bit. She thought it’d be nice to invite her since she doesn’t know anyone here. And even though she told her not to bring her anything, Erin told me that she will anyway.

“What did you get her?” Liam asks her next.

She quietly explains that she’s thinking of getting her a painting, saying that Cam told her about how she’s redecorating some rooms at her and Nate’s place, and that she thinks she can find something she likes.

After listening to her intently, he nods thoughtfully. “Is that what girls do? Redecorating when they settle in with someone? I can’t exactly picture Nate surrounded by flowers and shit.”

He doesn’t see me rolling my eyes because his are fixed on Erin. I put my pen down on the table, finally done with my list, and tell him, “Flowers are only if the guy is lucky. If not, he’ll see so many butterflies and ladybugs during the day that he’ll dream about them at night,” I deadpan.

When he realizes that I’m mocking his cliché prejudices, he stares at me with a deep frown, visibly sulking. But his attention is quickly swept away from me again, landing back on Erin when his reaction to my comment tears a small laugh out of her.

Something flicks through his eyes before he asks her, “When have you planned to go shopping?”

“Today after my shift,” she softly answers.

“Mind if I tag along? You can help me find something to go with whatever painting you choose. That way, I can’t go wrong.”

  What now?

I gawk at him. Literally. For what seems to be forever, the silence between the three of us dragging on, I only gawk at him.

Then Erin stutters, “You want to come shopping with me?”

That’s what I would have asked him if I had been able to find my voice.

“As long as you don’t drag me into hundreds of stores, I’m all in. And I’ll treat you to dinner as a thank you.”

Again, what? What in the hell am I hearing?

I’m glad that Erin looks as dumbfounded as I feel, otherwise I’d think I were overreacting. What is he doing asking a girl if he can go shopping with her? And dinner? Really? If everything that just came out of his mouth with such seriousness hadn’t left my mind blank, I’d be laughing until I couldn’t breathe. I just hope this isn’t an attempt to get into her pants. I know my brother. He’s always had a rough side counterbalancing his easy-going attitude, but he’s not one to play with girls like Erin. He’s always taken what he needs from club girls, and that’s it. But I’ll be sure to have a word with him about it later.

“So, what do you say?” he pushes when Erin stays stuck in some sort of surprised state, just like me.

“Well… Sure, okay. Okay, if you want,” she stammers awkwardly.

“I do. I gotta go now, but what time do you get off?” he asks her as he snatches the list from the table, as well as one last chip.

“Same time as Alex. Three,” she says, though she still sounds a little awestruck.

“I’ll be there,” he states and bends over to kiss my temple. “I’ll catch you then, too. Jayce said he should be here on time, but to wait for him inside if he’s running late. But I’ll be here, anyway. Just don’t go outside alone.”

  “I know, Liam,” I sigh.

“Hey, only passing the info. Don’t go shooting the messenger,” he grins, defending himself as though he didn’t just advise the same. “Bye,” he adds and stalks out of the cafeteria.

I immediately turn to Erin and say, “I hope you don’t mind him going shopping with you. I swear he’s harmless,” I promise her.

For her safety, at least. But considering her reddened cheeks, it might be a different story for her heart. The more I look at her, still blushing even though Liam is gone, the more I feel like I should have kept that from happening somehow.

“It’s alright,” she assures me. “I trust you, so I think I can trust him.”

Yeah, I so should have found a way to keep that from happening.

Distracting me from Liam’s unexpected and stupid ideas, my phone buzzes in my pocket. I shouldn’t even have it turned on since I’m inside the hospital, but I admit that I turn it on during lunch because I know Jayce would go out of his mind if he couldn’t even check in with me at least once during my shift.

  Jayce: All good, baby?

Me: Yes. Lunch time is about to be over. Liam just left, he has the list.

Jayce: Good. I’ll pick you up. And just so you know, I’ll join you in my brand-new bathroom. Need to be inside you.

Me: Nice. I’m working for three more hours, dumbass.

Jayce: I know. The more excited you are, the better. Want my girl ready to be fucked good against the shower wall.

Me: Already was. I didn’t need to go from wet to drenched and dying to get myself off.

Of course, I’m exaggerating, even though I do want him. But he deserves to be as turned on as he’s purposefully trying to make me.

Jayce: Fuck. I’ll be there on time. Don’t be late.

  I laugh at his command.

  Me: Yes, boss.

Since we’re about to head back upstairs, I turn off my phone and stuff it into my pocket.

When I look up, I catch Erin’s smile.

  “What?”

“I take it you’ve warmed up to Jayce after all.”

“What makes you think it was him?”

She shakes her head, smirking. “Your cheeky smile. I used to have the same one when my ex texted me. Not quite as wide, though.”

“Why aren’t you guys together anymore?”

The smile gracing her lips turns a bit sad. “Because time made me realize that he didn’t really love me. And to be honest, I don’t think I really loved him either. Not the way you should love someone you intend to spend your life with. I think I realized it even more when I saw the way Jayce was with you at the hospital when you were hurt.”

“The way he didn’t want to stay alone with me, you mean?” I raise my eyebrows.

“The way he was worried out of his mind about you before you woke up,” she counters, sending a pang straight to my heart. “And how protective he was of you. My ex never acted that way with me. You’re lucky. Anyway, time to get back to work.”

Glancing at my watch, I agree. “Yeah, let’s go.”

As we put our trays away and go back to the second floor, I think about what she said. She’s right. I am lucky. Despite everything that happened over the past year and a half, I am. I don’t regret giving Jayce a second chance, but I wish I could stop feeling like something is inevitably going to ruin it all, driving Jayce away from me once again.

  Chapter 18

  Jayce

“This is all you need for the deliveries in March and April,” Cody tips his chin to the right, motioning to the boxes behind him that are waiting on the table he’s leaning against. “Everything’s organized as always. There are just more boxes. Box number one for the first delivery, number two for the second, and so forth. I put a sheet with the delivery date inside each box so there won’t be any mess-ups. And inside the boxes, it’s all sorted as usual. One plastic bag per bike.”

Even though the shop is only five minutes away from the
club, we don’t usually move so many parts for the bikes to the warehouse in one go as a precaution. But since we need to cut out dispensable trips, we decided to move all the parts for the next two months’ deliveries today. We just have to hope we won’t run into blues looking for some distraction from their boring days spent driving around. When you belong to a biker club, sometimes respecting the speed limit isn’t enough for the cops to leave you the fuck alone.

“Perfect,” Nate says. “Besides that, everything good at the shop?”

“No problem. Cars kept rolling in all week. Most of the guys worked overtime, but if work keeps piling up, we’ll need more hands.”

That’s another thing we have to deal with. It’s not a life or death kind of matter, but whether it’s here or at some of our other shops, it’s a problem we’ll need to address soon. Even with Melvin who stayed on full time even after he patched in, the mechanics have been needing to take on extra hours every now and then. They don’t mind it since they’re paid well for it, but they still have a life outside of the shop. The main problem is that we don’t only need mechanics who are the best in their field, but we also need ones who can be trusted. We never discuss club business within earshot, obviously, but they aren’t stupid. They know who we are and know we’re involved in something illegal. And since there are a couple of backrooms they don’t have access to―like the one we’re inside right now―they probably also suspect the illegal business is related to the shop somehow. But they’re also smart enough not to snoop around. They’re here for nothing more than good paycheck for their time and skills, and that’s what they get here. Now we just need a couple more of them.

“I heard you got yourself a cute, new apprentice to help out,” Nate smiles.

  “Who?” I ask.

“Chloe,” Cody says, shaking his head.

  “Really?”

  That’s a surprise.

“Yeah. And I’ll tell you what. The kid is seriously gifted. I thought Brent was going to throw a fit when she asked me if she could work here for the rest of her junior year until she finishes high school. She never talked to him about it because she was afraid he’d come to me and threaten me so I’d say no,” he grins. “Somehow, she convinced him to agree, and she comes here after school every day for a couple of hours.”
