Briar's Saviors [Beyond the Veil 3] (Siren Publishing Ménage Amour) Page 25

“So, how was that for the first meeting of the parents?” Danel asked as they all climbed into the truck. She was up front in the passenger seat again, Byrne behind the wheel and Danel in the back but leaning over the seats to chat with her.

Briar hugged Danel close and smiled. “It was good. I don’t think I am exactly what they were thinking of for a mate for the two of you, but I am who you get.” She leaned her head on Danel’s shoulder and sighed. “I’m happy. I’m happy that I have the two of you in my life. Nothing else matters, right? Just us and our family that we have going here?”

“They adored you,” he told her, slipping an arm around her shoulders. Leaning his cheek to her temple, he chuckled. “Though I did not realize just how bloodthirsty your mother was, Byrne.”

“Yeah, she’s always been that way. She’s small but damned feisty and vicious when the situation calls for it. Gotta love a mom who is all for disemboweling a guy she’s never met.” He grinned over at her.

That had Briar smiling, and she nodded. “I like her. I like the fact that she was able to say just what was on her mind, the fact that it was the same as was on mine. Well, that’s another thing. I’m just happy. Period. We are good and maybe eventually I will be able to meet your fathers as well. Eventually.”

“There is no rush,” Danel told her. “We will let you meet them at your own pace. We can likely even arrange it so that you can meet them one-on-one. Make it a little less overwhelming until you get to know them all.”

“I’m very sure they would be open to it,” Byrne said. He was pulling over in front of the AEDA offices. The restaurant that Briar had chosen hadn’t been far from the office, one of her favorite places to grab lunch or dinner. “All right you two, sit here and behave. No mooning people, Danel,” he said in a warning tone. “Briar, smack him with something if he gets the urge, will you please, love?” Leaning over, he kissed her before sliding out of the truck.

Briar laughed and watched Byrne leaving her alone with Danel. To Danel she said, “He really doesn’t know me very well, does he? He doesn’t realize that I’m usually the one that gets things going too far, not you.”

“Yeah, he knows that, but he likes to pretend it’s not you.” He grinned. “Don’t worry about it. Now, what sort of trouble can we cause?”

  * * * *

Striding down the halls to the cryptology department, Byrne got his head back on the job. At least for a few more minutes. The case wasn’t going to solve itself. Hopefully the agent he’d given everything to would have something, anything.

Moving through, he went straight to her desk. Stopping, he waited for her to notice him. Shouldn’t be hard, given everyone else in the room had at least twice given the craning necks.

When she finally looked up, he cocked a brow. “Any progress?” he asked.

She blinked up at him, a confused expression on her face, and then it cleared. He watched her eyes dart around for a moment before she leaned over her desk slightly. Taking the hint, he braced his fingers on the edge and leaned closer.

“Well?” he prodded. He didn’t have all day.

“Not much,” she said softly. “But what I have found is not good. Not good at all.”

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Born in the mid-seventies, Honor has always had a love for the written word. Whether she is reading a book from another author or writing a story of her own, she is always letting her mind expand and delve into possibilities. It all started off as scribbles for her, then a phase of poetry before she found her true calling in the erotic paranormal genre, where her imagination is the only limit.

Since beginning her journey as a published author in 2011, Honor says she has learned a great deal about herself and writing. She believes that it’s a never-ending journey, the mind always wanting to learn and to grow. With that comes a better skill and smoothness to her writing she’s discovered and begun to enjoy more with each story she creates.

Thankfully, as she puts it, she has a job that gives her plenty of opportunity to write whatever comes to mind with very few interruptions. Her biggest supporters are, as always, her family. Her two children and her husband are continuously providing her with laughter and joy, making the time she takes to write a little bit easier. Without them and their support she knows she wouldn’t be half the author she is today.
