One Night with Fate: A standalone contemporary romance (One Night Series Book 3) Page 23

“Please put your hands together for Spencer and Reece Crowley.” Nina leaned in and whispered, “Now’s the part where you kiss her.”

Our kiss was brief, caught on camera by Tammy—our “photographer” for the day. It was a new career she was trying out.

“Come and congratulate the happy couple,” Nina encouraged.

Spencer’s family reached us first. “Welcome to the family,” Chrissy said, hugging me.

“She’s one of us now,” Tammy said. “And I’m still the lost one.”

“You’ll find your way,” I said. “If I can, trust me, anyone can.”

“Hey, did you go to high school with any dorks who were in love with you?” Becca asked Tammy. “Track them down.”

Tammy groaned. “I’d be offended if I didn’t already try that. All married. Go figure.”

Beth cut my laughter off with a hug. “See, daughter-in-law. You fit in perfectly with us.”

I nodded as more tears attacked my face. “Jesus Christ, I think my eyes are broken. They keep leaking. With how emotional I am, you’d think I was pregnant again.”

Four shocked stares flitted between me and Spencer.

“Calm down, guys,” Spencer said, “it’s not possible. After seeing Elliot being born, I vowed never to have sex again.”

Every woman of Spencer’s family pushed, elbowed, or hit him.

“Hey,” Spencer complained, “what’s with the violence?”

“Face it, booger, we love Reece more than you already,” Tammy said.

“That’s all right, so do I.” Spencer wrapped his arm around me and kissed my head.

“We’ll let you tend to your other guests,” Beth said.

Surprisingly, Cole and Paige were first up.

“Is it weird yet?” Spencer asked Cole.

“Can I take you up on your offer to punch you now?” Cole retorted.

  “Your what?” I exclaimed.

“All good, brother,” Cole said, ignoring me and leaning in to hug Spencer. “We really are like family now, hey?”

“Congratulations,” Paige said, her tone meek and not like the Paige I knew.

I nodded and smiled politely. We could totally rock this civil thing.

  Yay, adulting!

Faces became a blur as we hugged all of our guests, the last one being Spencer’s niece who had Elliot asleep in her arms.

  “You’re a natural, Hailey,” I said.

  “Thank you.” She blushed.

“You think you could keep nursing him while I steal my wife for a few minutes?” Spencer asked.

“God, that sounds weird, Uncle Spence,” Hailey said. “You’re married now. That’s insane.”

“Sure is. And I need to give Reece a wedding present. Get Nanna to help if Elliot gets squirmy.”

“Elliot’s fine. He loves his cousin,” Hailey said.

“Let’s call it practice for when you have kids,” Spencer said loudly so Chrissy could hear.

“Oh, hell no!” Chrissy yelled and started to march her way over to her daughter.

“Quick,” Spencer said to me, “let’s make out escape.”

He dragged me into the house and through to the laundry where our huge walk-in linen closet was.

“What are you doing?” I asked when he pushed me inside and shut the door behind us. “This is my wedding present? Ripped off.”

“It’s not exactly the place we got together, but storage closet, linen closet, close enough, right? I figured we needed to seal our marriage in a similar fashion to how we started seeing each other as more than just friends.”

I barked out a laugh. “What happened to never having sex again?”

“Like I was going to tell my mother and sisters my true intentions. Geez, they probably would’ve slapped me harder.”

He backed me up until I was pushed against the shelving.

“Are we really going to have sex in our linen closet, on our wedding day, with all of our guests outside?” I asked.

“Cole and Paige have their public bathroom thing. We can have a closet thing.”

I cocked my head to the side. “Public bathroom thing?”

“Oh. Umm, never mind.” He lifted me up so my legs wrapped around him. “You up for this?”

I nodded. “Go as slow as you can.” We hadn’t had sex since Elliot was born, but I was prepared for it. “At the six-week check-up, I got that IUD thingy. So, let’s go.”

“There you go with all the dirty talk again.”

I laughed. “You’re my husband now, so you have to put up with my un-sexy talk.”

“And I’ll do it willingly. Forever.”

  About the Author

Eden Finely is a romance/erotica author by day, but Batman at night.

Okay, I’m not Batman, but I feel like I am. I have a cool secret name and everything.

While this is my debut romance novel, I have several other Young Adult works published under my real name. For this reason, I chose a pen name to write for this genre. Well that, and I don’t want my mother to read these books. Seriously, how freaking awkward would that be?
