He studies Madison who’s speaking to the police. “She’s the type who would.”
I smile, inordinately pleased at his perception. “The woman had it in for me from the moment we met.”
“She saw you as a threat.”
“She didn’t seem to think so when my head was between her legs.” I wince. I can’t believe I overshared with Kyler. That’s going to haunt me. He might be here to help, but he is not my friend.
He leans in closer. “What did happen here?” he asks, his voice a sexy rumble.
“You really don’t want to know,” I say as I lead him out the room. I wish he would stay. I know I can handle the police on my own, but it’s going to be an ordeal.
“You’ll have to re-enact it for me when I call in my favor,” he decides.
“Your favor?” It dawns on me that he still plans to collect. “No, no, there is no favor.”
“You promised one if I came up here,” he reminds me.
“But you didn’t do anything.” I am someone who honors favors, but I’m not doing something for nothing. “You stood around and asked what happened. That’s not helping.”
He shrugs. “That’s not my problem.” He pushes the elevator button and the doors immediately slide open.
He steps inside and a part of me wants to join him. It takes a great deal of willpower to remain in the suite.
“You’re taking a chance with me if you call in this favor,” I remind him. “You might wind up like Nigel.”
His eyes twinkle at the threat as the elevator closes. “And what a way to go.”
