Chapter One
On the tree hung a picture of the ugliest fairy Cayenne had ever seen in the whole of her bounty hunting life. Which said a lot because she’d seen some ugly ones up for reward. The normal diaphanous wings of the fairy had hardened into a papery substance and cracked like dried flaking leaves. The fairy, naturally pink of skin, had turned a dark brown from the effects of the Malevolent taking over, which was similar to a disease for fairies. Only the Malevolent didn’t attack unless provoked, which meant the fairy had to do something purposefully against nature like killing, torturing, and other wicked deeds. This mark was worth twenty gold coins. Enough money to set her little sister up in a good place, one with an actual roof.
Fairy’s last known whereabouts: Nirra—an elven city not more than a day’s walk from the bounty-posting tree. She’d head there and ask around, see if she couldn’t drum up some clues to where this precious reward might be hiding out.
Cayenne closed her eyes and willed her small body to blink to Nirra. Her feet elfing hurt from the traipsing she’d already done on the last bounty for a mere one thousand coppers. To avoid those extra miles, she used a little magic. She wanted a stiff drink and a good fuck before she started this job.
She moved in the direction of the city faster than a humming bird’s beating wings. Blinking felt like a whole group of elves were pinching every inch of her flesh as the magic pulled her through space. Then her body came to a sudden stop. Cayenne stumbled, and she righted herself on the street in front of Reed’s bar. Reed owned the place, and there wasn’t an elf in the general area who didn’t know Reed. She walked through the main door. Quite a few elves were already lit and enjoying themselves with companions at their tables.
Cayenne headed for the open seat at the counter. She’d met Reed a few times over the years. He owned the place and tended it. Preferring to do it all himself, even the bouncing, though he employed a bouncer too. Some claimed he had control issues, but Cayenne didn’t agree. The rugged, good-looking elf was cautious in her opinion, and if she’d built something up all on her own, Cayenne didn’t think she could let just any old elf run things either. It would be worth too much to her. When she finally had the chance to purchase a place for her and her sister, Lily, she would do anything to keep it safe. Rumor said Reed recently settled down with some elfess cursed by a goblin.
“What can I get ya?” Reed turned as he spoke, recognition crossing his face as he gave her a broad smile.
“Give me something stiff.” She threw ten coppers down on the bar. Reed would take what he needed and leave the rest. In seconds, a wooden shot glass of dark liquid sat before her.
“Do you wanna know what it is?”
“Do I really care?” Her eyebrow shot up, and she knocked back the drink. She swallowed the liquid. It burned going down her throat. A cough threatened to ruin her drinking reputation, and her hand came to her chest.
“Burns, doesn’t it?” a deep voice said beside her.
She nodded, her eyes watering. She angled toward the voice. An elf with long dark braids and bright green eyes took a stool beside her.
He grinned. “I’ll have what she’s having, Reed.”
“Nice to see you again, Hawthorn.” Reed poured the drink and set it in front of the elf.
He tipped the cup up to Cayenne like a salute and downed it. He slammed the cup on the bar and shook his head. “That’s the spot. So, you from around here?”
“Nope.” She signaled for another.
“I came in for a job. You?”
“Work.” Reed handed her the drink, and she shot it down again. This time, it slipped down easier than the first since she knew what to expect. She slammed the cup down on the bar the way Hawthorn had and gave him a grin. His eyes shone with mischief.
“Only know how to say one word at a time, sweetheart?”
Cayenne let the grin fall from her face and raised an eyebrow. “I’m not your sweetheart.”
“Ah, but you could be. Loosen up. Let’s have some fun. What’s got your panties all bunched up?”
Cayenne rolled her shoulders and tried to relax. He was right. She’d made it to town. Soon she’d be after her bounty, and all would be right in her world. The alcohol helped, but she signaled for a third. She gave a sideways glance to Hawthorn who motioned for another round. They both picked them up at the same time and shot them down. She slammed her cup first. “Do you have a place to crash round here, Thorn?” Her head felt a little light, and she steadied herself with the bar.
“Yeah. I checked out a room around the corner.”
“Wanna fuck?” She waggled her eyebrows suggestively, or what she assumed was suggestive. A giggle she hadn’t expected bubbled up from inside her chest. She let it out and snorted with her own amusement before she caught herself and cleared her throat. Yeah, the last one was getting to her.
He laughed and picked her up in his arms. Under normal circumstances, Cayenne would object to being handled this way. But it had been far too long since she’d had a cock between her thighs, and his cock was just as good as any other. Plus, he had a bed. Cayenne snickered to herself as he sauntered out the door with her cradled against his chest.
“What are you giggling about?” Thorn asked.
“Cocks.” As the word came out of her mouth, another jolt of laughter followed it.
He smiled. “Close your eyes, sweetheart.”
She did as he said and felt the pinch of her skin as he blinked with them both. Hot and skilled. It was hard enough to blink one elf at a time, but two—few could do that, and she was one of them.
When she opened her eyes, she found herself in a little hut on a large oak tree. One of the reasons she loved the elven realm more than the human realm was the size of nature. Mother Earth held strong here. Humans had small trees. Elven trees seemed to go on forever and were ten times the size of human skyscrapers.
“Talented. Blinking two.”
Thorn set her down, and she wobbled on her feet but righted herself without his
help. Proud, she took a few steps and plopped down on the bed.
“I try.” He flashed a grin that had her panties threatening to fall with those bright green eyes roaming over her curves.
Cayenne undid the buttons on her shirt one by one...slow, precise...and then let it slip to the floor. Her eyes never left his body as she kicked off her boots. They made a thump while she unbuckled the leather belt at her waist. She could imagine his strength pressed against her, pushing the length of him inside, right where she desperately needed attention. The room grew warm to her exposed flesh.
Thorn licked his lips and stripped out of all his clothes before she could unbutton her jeans. She smiled at the hasty loss of his attire. A picture of him slowly undressing for her made her heart skip. He slid up next to her, and all thoughts of slow slipped her mind.
“Let me help you.” His voice came out husky with want.
She moved her hands to the tight muscles of his warm bare chest and leisurely ran tentative fingers over them as they tensed under her caress. Goosebumps flushed over his skin. His cock sprang to attention, and she let her hand fall to play with it. He was thick and rock hard when Cayenne stroked him. She let her hand deliberately smooth over his sensitive tip. Her pants dropped to the floor, and she stepped out of the material without missing a stroke. His head fell back as he took in a sharp breathe, allowing her free rein over his body. He looked magnificent with his neck exposed to her and his body straining. He had barely any hair on him except his legs and a sweet treasure trail leading to his nether regions. She giggled at herself. What a silly thing to think, nether regions, like an embarrassed little lady. She continued her fondling of the minty smelling elf.
Cayenne dropped down to her knees and looked up at him through her lashes. His prick throbbed in her hand. Her other hand cupped his balls and began leisurely massaging. She pulled him into her mouth a little at a time and was rewarded with a very male groan. As his head slipped all the way in, Thorn thrust his hips into her. She bobbed back, wanting to lick the whole length of his hard-on, but he had other plans. He wrapped her auburn hair around his hands drawing her back down on him. She moistened with his forcefulness and moans of approval. The pure enjoyment of his groans thrilled her. She sucked him until he pulled her back and lowered her all the way to the floor.
“You’re driving me nuts, elfess.”
“Good.” She flashed him a wicked grin. He dipped his head to her neck and left a trail of kisses all the way to her nipple. His hand cupped her breasts as he teased the sensitive peaks with his tongue flicking back and forth, creating wild electric jolts to spring down to her clit. An orgasm peaked around the corner. It had been so long, and her body was wound tighter than a spider’s web. She needed to break loose, needed to feel the pleasure overtake her. Scratch that: it was more than a need. It would happen, or she’d make it happen herself. Cayenne ran her own hands toward her throbbing clit. It needed attention something fierce.
Thorn’s hand slipped down her belly, moving her hands out of the way. He plunged his finger deep inside her. She gasped. He slid it back out and began a rigorous ministration of her clit in tiny, slow circles. Her back arched wantonly, begging him to dive deeper, fill her up more. All the stimulation made her body grow warm and sparks shot behind her eyes. She held her breath when the wave overtook her, shattering her into a trillion little pieces. Pulling her taut nipple between his lips, he suckled, causing an electric heat to run amok through her body as she writhed beneath him. He slowed, allowing her body to come back together, and she gasped when his head found its way between her legs and his tongue darted out to taste her.
“You taste like honey,” Thorn said between slow licks. His hands found her hips and kept them in place.
She ran her fingers through his hair, urging him to keep moving between her thighs. He teased her by licking down one side, up the other, and, finally, giving a short flick of his tongue to her clit. She squirmed. “What are you doing?”
“What I want, elfess. Lie back and take it like a woman.”
Her body uncoiled and relaxed. He didn’t disappoint. Lips slid over her sensitive nub, and his tongue gently stroked her. His lapping had her back on the verge of coming. His hands reached up, twisting both her nipples at the same time. She screamed out his name as he sucked her clit between his beautiful lips, and she crashed into another orgasm.
Before her body could recover, he slid himself up, and his cock plunged inside her, stretching her in the most delicious of ways. She rocked into him urging him deeper, until he filled her completely. She loved how every solid inch of him felt inside her, hard, throbbing, and waiting for a release.
“I love the way you feel around my cock. So hot. So warm. So tight.”
Cayenne wrapped her legs around his waist and he rode her, pounding into her faster and faster, until she felt the swell of his cock.
“I’m coming...” Thorn thrust so far in, she thought her hips might split, and he pulled another orgasm from her as his seed spilled inside.
***
The sun broke through the leaf curtains and awoke Cayenne. It was early, and a bite remained in the air. Thorn lay snoring beside her, both of them still naked from last night’s adventures. She moistened at the thought of the pleasure this elf could bring. She’d be sure to seek him out next time she found herself in town. Cayenne dressed and snuck out the door, not wanting to wake him. Time to get her job done, so she had money to take back to her sister.
When Cayenne first started working as a bounty hunter, her sister had a conniption fit about it. Lily had always been adamant about Cayenne’s safety even though Cayenne was the eldest. Cayenne chalked it up to the fact that their parents had died, and she suspected Lily was scared of losing her too. Lily wasn’t wrong to be scared. Bounty hunting came with a certain level of danger.
Most of the time, Cayenne sought low lives who skipped out on paying bills. She rarely came across a big reward like the malevolent fairy. The bounty was too much dough to pass up, and Mother Earth knew they could use it. By the time she made it back to Lily, there would be hell to pay; Cayenne hadn’t told her about it this time. Though she didn’t anticipate it taking long, either. Couple of days, max. She was good at what she did. How hard could it be, to catch a little fairy?
Cayenne had made sure she knew what she was doing to lessen the chance of her family losing any more than what they already had. She’d sought out the best bounty hunter she knew, Drake her ex-boyfriend, and requested to tag along until she knew what to do and when to do it. They hadn’t ended on bad terms. He needed to go out on an extended bounty hunt, tracking some rogue elves and pirates, and he didn’t even know if he’d come back. Their friendship stayed true when he finally did make it home.
Of course, in the process of his teaching, Cayenne caught on quicker than dragonfly wings to the ins and outs of bounty hunting. The main rule: never let the bounty get away.
Cayenne willed herself to blink to the market. The best way to catch a fairy–honey. Few elves rummaged about this early, and she crossed her fingers the market would be up and running. It was a little strip just off a pond between two wild oak trees. Cayenne walked out of the blink and headed for the first stall she saw open.
An elf who looked like he’d spent too much time in the sun and not enough taking care of his skin put fruits out on the counter of his stall. He had dragon fruit, melons, and even pomegranates from the human realm. They all looked delicious with their deep reds and greens. Her mouth watered, but she wasn’t there to eat. She had a task to take care of, and as soon as she accomplished it, she could be home with Lily.
“Excuse me. Who sells honey?” Cayenne smiled.
The elf pointed to the left continued on with his work. They didn’t seem very friendly this early in the morning. She stepped tentatively to the next stall. But no one seemed to be there. She searched for a sign of what kind of goods it sold, but found little to tell her. She continued walked, passing by wood stalls both le
ft and right, seeking out the one with the honey. After what seemed like all morning, she finally came across a promising one. Hand painted drawings decorated the front of the stall. A little bee by a flower, a bear swatting at the bee. They looked cute. She tapped lightly on the wood, hoping someone would come out from around back. It would be a boring wait if she had to stick around for the store to open sometime within the next hour.
“Can I help you miss?” A deep voice asked from behind her.
She turned. “Hawthorn?”
“At your service.” He bowed. He wore a tan shirt that strained against his muscular chest, and olive green pants. She inhaled his minty scent and swallowed a sigh of contentment. Last night invaded her senses, and she pictured his chest shirtless.
Cayenne shook her head and smiled. “You own this stall?”
“Not really, I’m just manning it for a friend today.”
How convenient. “I need some honey.”
“Well I think I have just what you seek, elfess. Please, right this way.” He gestured for her to come around the back of the stall. She laughed.
“You sound so formal.”
“This is business, not pleasure.” He flashed her a grin, and a gleam shown in his eye.
Hawthorn undid the back of the little shop and pulled out a jar of honey. “Ten coppers, please.”
Her mouth dropped. That was elfing expensive. “When did honey become such a rare commodity to charge an outrageous price?”
“I don’t make the rules. I make sure they don’t get broken.”
Cayenne narrowed her eyes and pulled the coppers from her pocket. He held out his hand, and she dropped them. “Thank you. I hope you come back and see us again soon.” He handed her the jar with a satisfied smirk.
“If I do, it won’t be for the honey.” Hawthorn let out a deep laugh. She sent him a glare and then willed herself just outside of the city.
She opened the jar and stuck her entire hand inside the sticky sweet substance. She needed to smear it all over where she wanted the fairy to be and then sit back and wait. They could sniff this stuff out better than a human hound. It was a wonder elves didn’t try to train fairies like humans trained dogs. She slipped her honey-covered hand along the trees, grass, leaves, and bushes, anything within reach beside the actual dirt. Then she set the jar in the middle of the area.
