“Aye, they go back hundreds of years.”

“Are you related to the chief’s family at all?”

“Aye, not closely though, at least I don’t think so.”

“Maybe the Fae magic in your blood is what has given you these powers.”

“Really? It’s not like it was Gran who was blessed by the Fae. It was over two or three hundred years ago.”

“But if you are the last remaining member of your line of the family, then what was once spread out has now condensed into you.”

Ellie looked like she was going to be sick. “You mean all that stuff I brushed off as hogwash growing up is real. Fae folk actually exist?”

“After hearing that story, it seems most likely there is some connection between it and your powers. It’s been centuries since anyone has seen any of them, but there were plenty of sightings at one point in time that makes me think they may have actually existed. When we heard of the sightings, we wrote it off as the gods playing tricks, but we could have been wrong. Plus you might have a stronger connection to them now the magic from your branch of the MacLeod family tree has condensed into you.”

“You’re blowin’ my mind, you know that?” Ellie flopped down on the edge of the bed.

  “Sorry.” Alec shrugged.

“It’s fine, but I swear, every day you tell me something that just changes my reality a little more.”

“You can forget all this when you go home.”

“I can’t, and I won’t.” Her face was grim with determination. “You don’t understand. This has changed me forever—you’ve changed me, more than I ever could have predicted. I just wanted to close the store and go back to grieving my family, but now I know there is so much more out there. How am I supposed to live with that?”

“You will forget about it slowly. Nothing will bother you once you’re back in Scotland.”

  “How do you know?”

Alec was silent for a while assessing his options. “I don’t.” He spread his hands before her apologetically. He couldn’t guarantee anything.

“Well, that doesn’t do me much good, does it? What if there is another witch that wants to possess me or something else I can’t even define that attacks?”

“You can always call me, and I will be there as quickly as possible.”

“Aye. I suppose that’ll have to be good enough.” Ellie shook her head. “I need some air.” She rose from the bed and headed to the door.

  “You shouldn’t go alone.”

“I need some space. Just give me a moment, okay?”

“Okay.” Alec backed off with hands held up to let her know he wouldn’t press the issue any further.

With Ellie out of the room, Alec took his time looking at all the family photos. They were mainly of Ellie and MacLeod and occasionally MacLeod and his wife. It was one thing for someone to say they were raised by their grandparents, but it was another to see it. He had no idea how Ellie was managing her grief right now, but she was. Alec had moved on to looking at some of MacLeod’s journals by the time Ellie returned. She looked like she had been running her fingers through her hair and possibly crying. He felt for her. Everything she had written off her whole life as her grandfather’s crazy antics was all true, even one of the biggest myths about her family.

  “You okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Her voice sounded a little unsteady. She came and sat on the edge of the bed as he handed her a journal.

“Why don’t you flip through, see if we can find anything out about your magic. It’ll take less time if we both look.” Truthfully, he just wasn’t ready to leave her. He had only known her a short time, but he had become so used to her presence at his side and in his home that he was a little scared to go back to an empty house.

“Sure.” She cracked open the book, leafing through the pages.

Alec’s phone buzzed in his pocket. “Food’s here. I’ll be right back.” He strode out of the room, his long legs covering ground faster than Ellie had thought possible.

Alec returned with the food. The smell of spices wafted through the air, making his stomach growl in anticipation. He hadn’t realized how hungry he was. And if he was hungry, then Ellie must be starving.

“Let’s go back to your place. I don’t think we will find anything more here tonight, and I’m exhausted. Plus we can eat more comfortably there.” Ellie sounded worn out.

“Are you sure? You were pretty set against leaving.”

“You want me to stay here alone? What if one of those things attacks? What if that witch takes me over again? I don’t know what I’d do.”

“You’d be fine. You’re strong and smart. But we can go back if you want.” Alec wasn’t sure what had changed, but he wasn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

  Chapter 14

I can’t wait to see where your precious siren lives. He would only ever meet me at my place or a hotel when we were together. But you… you’re going to let me slip in under the radar. Circe’s voice bounced around in Ellie’s head as she railed against the possession.

“I think it would be best to go back, don’t ye?”

  “Sure.”

He doesn’t suspect a thing. I knew you would be the perfect vehicle for me to get onto their island. Your accent was a little challenging, but nothing I couldn’t master with some practice.

Alec was holding his hand out to her. Ellie was doing everything she could not to take it while Circe’s will forced her hand to move, albeit very slowly. Once her hand was in Alec’s, Circe stepped in close to him.

“Ready when you are,” she said in a breathy voice as she looked up into his eyes.

My, my… you have created more emotion in the man in the past few days than I managed to in almost a year.

Well, I guess he just goes for sane women. Ellie thought at Circe who laughed and proceeded to make Ellie snuggle in closer to Alec.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Alec’s eyebrows were drawn together in concern.

“Yep. Just getting comfy for the trip.”

“If you say so.” He shook his head, and they jumped to his place.

Ellie could feel Circe’s wonder as she looked around Alec’s house. She had clearly never been here before. The man does have good taste; it must be why we got together in the first place.

Why are you doing this? Ellie thought at Circe.

I don’t want the brothers interfering with my plans. The best way to disable an enemy is to find its weak spot and apply pressure or attack from within if possible. Well, now I’m within, and I know some of the pressure points; soon I will know all of them.

But why are you doing this in general. Why try to kill all the descendants? Ellie asked.

My dear girl, you have seen only four of them. Do you have any idea the havoc the rest of them cause? The reason the siren brothers have a job is to clean up the messes of other descendants. The gods and goddesses think they can just let their children misbehave all over the world, like toddlers throwing tantrums, but some of us have finally had enough of it. Besides, they don’t care who their children hurt, what crimes they commit, it’s all water under the bridge to them. But for those of us who live down here, it’s a pain in the ass.

  “Are you hungry?”

  “Starved.”

“Why don’t you go sit down, and I’ll put this in some bowls and get us real silverware?”

“Sounds good.” Circe smiled seductively at Alec as he retreated to the kitchen to fix the food.

Now let’s see what trouble we can find. I bet he would love to find us waiting in the bedroom. Don’t you think?

No! We aren’t having sex with him.

I just want to refresh my memory if he really was as good a lover as I thought or not.

  Not on your life!

Try to stop me. Circe cackled at Ellie’s futile attempts to stop her and retake control of her own body. She made her way upstairs to the bedroom.

Now that is a bed! That headboard
is perfect for grabbing on to don’t you think? Oh and that picture window. While you’re riding him, you could watch the waves or even see a storm rolling in. Very nice thread count on the sheets. She rubbed the softness between her fingers. You’ve already slept with him. I can see it in your memories. So why are you so opposed to my having a little taste?

Ellie could feel Circe poking around in her mind, bringing up memories, reviewing them over and over again.

Magic out of your hands when you orgasm, huh? Well, aren’t you a talented girl. I’m glad you didn’t kill him yet, although I’m sure you will eventually. Nobody would be safe around you with that amount of power and no control. I’ll have to remember that for later.

Circe stripped out of the leggings and panties she had been wearing and discarded the bra too, so all she was left wearing was a long T-shirt. She summoned candles from who knows where; they appeared over every available surface. Ellie didn’t remember seeing this many candles throughout Alec’s house, so they must have come from somewhere else. Circe lit them all at once with the flick of her wrist, settling herself on the bed.

  “Ellie?”

  “Up here,” Circe called out.

“What’s wrong?” Alec called out before he flashed upstairs.

Ellie watched him take in the sight of her body in nothing but a long T-shirt and candlelight. You could practically see him salivate. She was getting frustrated that he didn’t realize she wasn’t acting like herself.

“Nothing’s wrong. I just thought it might be nice to picnic up here.” Circe’s voice was husky, conveying a need that made Ellie question where it came from. Sure, she had been avoiding her feelings toward Alec, but she had been lusting after him and remembering that phenomenal sex they had.

“Ellie, you don’t want this. You made that pretty clear this morning.” Alec tried to look away, and Ellie’s heart became uneasy. She wanted Alec, but as herself, not with Circe at the helm. As Circe moved, Ellie could feel the T-shirt ride up her thighs, exposing exactly what Alec wanted. She could tell he was trying not to look, but his gaze became fixed on the junction between her thighs.

“I’ve had a change of heart.” Circe shrugged. “I feel safe here and even more safe with you.”

Circe sauntered over to him, Ellie’s breasts swaying slightly under the T-shirt, practically screaming that the T-shirt was all she was wearing. Her hands reached out to him and ran from the tops of his thighs and hips up his chest to his shoulders, pulling him close to her. She could feel his hardness through his jeans. He might say no right now, but his body has other ideas. I’ll wear him down, don’t you worry, little girl. Then you can see how two immortals do it.

When her mouth was next to his ear, Circe practically moaned, “Make me feel safe.” Her lips grazed the tender flesh of his ear sending goose bumps down Alec’s arms, which delighted Circe.

He wants you so badly he’s almost shaking with restraint, do you see?

Alec put both hands on Ellie’s shoulders and pushed her back. “Why did you change your mind so suddenly?” His voice was deep and husky with arousal.

“It was way too much effort to resist you, especially if it’s not safe for me to leave yet. I would rather just enjoy our time together, wouldn’t you?”

“Well, yes, but it’s the opposite vibe from what I was getting from you this morning.”

“I wasn’t feeling myself this morning.”

  “But—”

“Enough now.” Circe reached up on Ellie’s tiptoes and pressed her mouth to his, the warm softness of his lips causing Ellie’s body to melt into his involuntarily. Circe darted Ellie’s tongue out and licked his bottom lip, calling forth a groan from Alec, which made Circe flush with pleasure.

“Ellie, if you start this, I won’t be able to stop.” Alec had closed his eyes as though not seeing her would help him resist the temptation in front of him.

“Then don’t.” Circe breathed against him and ran her hands down, caressing him through his jeans, earning a low growl from Alec.

“Gods, you taste amazing, and I haven’t been able to get your ass out of my mind all day.”

Circe took Alec’s hands from around her face and placed them firmly on her ass.

  “Better?”

Alec groaned deep in his throat as she flexed her butt against his hands. He rubbed circles and squeezed before landing a light tap on each cheek. Circe turned around so Ellie’s butt rubbed against Alec, and he let out a hiss as she pulled his left hand up to one of Ellie’s breasts. His fingers deftly found a nipple and lightly ran circles around it, causing it to peak painfully. His other hand sought another erotic place that was much lower. Circe spread her legs for him, and his fingers wound their way through Ellie’s tight curls to the wet heat at the core of her. There they explored her most sensitive area, finding the nub of pleasure and rubbing over it again and again and again.

Circe’s breathing had increased to a panting as Alec pushed Ellie’s body’s buttons. He left a line of kisses from her ear to the nape of her neck. He pulled her T-shirt up and over her head in one sure movement, his fingers returning to their playgrounds without missing a beat. Ellie’s body was shaking, and Circe was clearly having trouble keeping her upright.

  “Bed?” She croaked out.

Alec growled in agreement, walking them both over while still trying to play with her buttons.

Circe made sure every sway of Ellie’s ass rubbed against Alec’s erection, which was now clearly straining against his jeans. When they got to the bed, Circe simply bent over, exposing Ellie to Alec, who moaned before swiftly removing his clothes. Ellie’s body tingled in anticipation as his belt buckle hit the floor.

  Circe, stop this now!

I want to play in your body, and it seems Alec is up—pun intended—for the game. Besides, there is nothing you can do to stop me. Circe chuckled to herself.

Alec pushed against the folds at Ellie’s core while Circe moaned her pleasure, and Ellie frantically fought to gain control. Using her body for a conversation was one thing, but sex was another, and she was not okay with it. Also, how did Alec not realize she was acting strangely? She had never been so forward or demanding during their previous sessions together.

His fingers played with her knot of pleasure, coaxing sounds from Circe as he brought her close to climax. Before she came, he slid his shaft inside her with one long, luxurious stroke. The fire of the orgasm banked while Alec built it again. His long, slow strokes slowly ramping up her orgasm, his pace increased and so did the noises coming from Circe. The sound of skin hitting skin as his thrusts became sharper, and what had been a slow steady beat turned into something more staccato.

His fingers reached under Ellie’s body, caressing her nipples while he pounded into her from behind, feeling like lightning was connecting the two with each stroke of his cock and twist of his fingers. His right hand worked its way down to her clit, rubbing and circling until Circe was calling out his name. Ellie watched as bolts of electricity flew from her body’s hands, hitting the walls. Alec’s pace increased even more, prolonging the orgasm until her body shuddered with the aftershocks. He stroked in and out slowly again, easing her body back down. Alec pulled out with a gasp and flipped Ellie’s body over on the bed. Circe let out a playful giggle as he climbed on top of her. His eyes were that cerulean blue again, charged with his life force. He stared down at eyes Ellie couldn’t control, and Ellie screamed her frustration at Circe.

Alec looked at Ellie and realized something was off—her eyes, which normally sparkled with intelligence and wit, were now dull. Before he had a chance to think about it any further, she began moving against him, her slick, hot core rubbing up and down his shaft, which was now pulsing painfully. She began riding his cock from under him, something he couldn’t abide. When he was on top, he was in control, end of discussion. Alec moved his hands to her hips to hold her where he wanted, and Ellie’s body bucked against his control. He pulled her up to him as his cock slid home, and
like a key fitting a lock, she relaxed around him, and he began to move.

Her skin was still flushed from her last orgasm as he began pumping in and out of her wet heat. Her breasts nudged against him. As he thrust into her, her taut, little rose buds puckered further for him as he began to feel her tighten again. Her lips were parted as she gasped for him. He kissed her mouth, punishing her lips. He nipped at her bottom lip, producing a different sound than he was used to coming from her. Her tongue delved into his mouth, exploring as she clutched him to her.

Her nails were sharp pinpricks in his back as she dug them in—harder than ever before. He sat up, bringing himself out of her reach and picked up the pace. He tried to keep his speed in check so he didn’t overwhelm her—she was only mortal after all—but the fierceness of his need began to overwhelm him until he could hold out no longer.

Circe let loose a guttural cry as she exploded around him, and he joined her seconds after. Alec held himself pressed into her so tightly he thought they might be fused together just as they were. Finally, when he had spilled every drop of seed he had into her, he slowly removed himself, earning a groan from both of them. He hated to leave her warmth, but he also needed to collapse.

Well, that was something else. Your bodies are more connected than we ever were. Even without you at the helm, your body responded to him magnificently. I haven’t felt pleasure like that in decades. I might just have to stay awhile longer before I destroy them. What a shame that will be. Circe’s satisfaction radiated through her connection with Ellie, turning her stomach.

No! You will not destroy them, and you will most certainly not use my body as your sex toy again. Ellie’s anger was raging out of control. Get out of my body, you bitch! Ellie felt Circe’s presence dull. She could move her own fingers, breathe her own breaths, and say her own words.

“Alec!” Ellie’s ear rang with pleasure as she realized her voice was her own for the moment.

Alec was startled awake after dozing off in post-orgasm bliss.
