Tortured Minds Page 27

It was a cold dark evening, with the moon covered by strong clouds that threatened rain. The three figures did not know what time it was, as time had no significance to them. There was only daytime or nighttime, with dawn and dusk in between. The road they were standing beside was extremely quiet and all that could be seen in the distance was the lights of the ten-tonner driving towards them. In a few moments, it would be upon them.

Jake was the first to move from the side of the road to the middle, watching the headlights grow bigger and stronger. Seconds later Daniel joined him and stood by his side. Molly looked on in admiration at the two people she loved the most. She ambled her way into the middle, pushing between the pair.

“Being in the middle is harder, it won’t be so easy to jump out of the way,” Daniel told Molly. She just held onto their hands, tightly, in each of hers.

  “This lady ain’t jumping.”

The three of them stood on that road watching as the lorry got closer and closer until it was almost upon them. If the driver could have seen them, at that time, he could never have stopped before hitting them. All three closed their eyes as the lorry was inches away. When they opened their eyes the three of them looked behind, watching the lorry fade away into the distance.

  “That was cool,” Jake said,

“Hardly orgasmic,” Molly replied. The three of them started walking down the road from where the lorry had come and it was a while before Jake spoke.

  “Well, what’s next?” he asked.

“I fancy walking through fire, and I would whip both your arses with that,” Molly replied. Amid their smiles, they walked on. The adrenalin rush they had felt two months ago was no longer accessible, no matter how hard they searched. Again it was a while before anyone spoke, this time, it was Daniel.

“I wonder what would have happened if I had been the only one to fall from that building?”

“Guess we’ll never know,” Molly assured him.
