Coldly angry, Martin Tait clamped his mouth shut while he selected his reply. Damn it all, he was Doug Quantrill’s future boss! Yes, all right, the man was his host and his prospective father-in-law; but he wasn’t going to let him get away with this.
They were supposed to be celebrating, though, and Alison wouldn’t easily forgive him if he spoiled her parents’ evening. Besides, with youth and future rank on his side, he had a better way of scoring a point.
Instead of coming out with a crushing retort, Martin looked kindly on the older man. He gave him an indulgent smile.
‘Right, Dad,’ he said.
