I woke up on the couch with a blanket on me and the sun shining in. I looked around. Had I slept all night? Damn being sick. I took a deep breath through my nose for the first time in days. Wait. I took another deep breath. No sniffling.

It was clear there was still tension in the air when Adam and I stepped out of our bedroom the next morning. The three adults were awake, but that was it. It seemed the kids were still asleep. I watched as Adam made his way over to the counter where his mother and his grandmother were making their coffee. I think I’ll wait. I didn’t want to go squish in there with everyone. Instead, I’d wait. It looked like Adam’s dad was doing the same thing. He gave me a quick smile. He looked tired, or maybe just sick of this already.

1. Chapter One
“Hey Mia, how’s it going back there?” Cody’s deep voice bellowed loudly over the crashing water of the Kicking Horse River.
“Just awesome,” she replied, trying desperately to remain inside the raft, which now seemed incredibly small and unsafe to Mia.
As the icy cold water splashed the soft skin on her face; Mia began wondering how the hell she’d managed to find herself white water rafting with a gang of about 12 screaming teenagers who she barely knew. The answer was simple; Mia had been the one to raise her hand when her boss had asked for willing journalists for his latest assignment.
For once girl, you should’ve kept your enthusiasm in check! Mia smirked at her thoughts and then grabbed for the side of the raft as it crashed through wave after wave.
“Right guys, we’re now hitting the lower canyon so hang onto your helmets and your breakfast!” Cody laughed.
His words were met with ripples of laughter from the teenagers, but Mia wasn’t in the mood for smiling, let alone laughing. She remembered Cody’s talk before their rafting adventure had started, he’d mentioned that the lower canyon was by far the trickiest section of the whole river.
Cody was a famous billionaire; at least, he was once a famous billionaire. He’d fallen out of favor with the media as his story had quickly become past news.
His wealth had come from his father’s estate and a myriad of successful businesses that Cody had inherited when his father passed away. Cody chose to sell the estate and all of the businesses and put the money toward setting up his own adventure center in Banff, Canada. The center offered disadvantaged teenagers of 15-19 years old the opportunity to try all the adventure sports they wanted.
Mia’s task was to help to rebuild Cody’s character in the eyes of the media, portray him as the good guy once again. They once adored him, as did the general public initially for setting up such a charity.
Nobody would ever really know if he set it up for genuine reasons though or with the ulterior motive of being noticed and appearing admirable. Mia knew he had an older brother called Callum. She’d heard unconfirmed reports that they’d fallen out over the fact that Cody sold everything, and Callum had been left nothing. All this was based on rumors; even his wealth she’d only heard about via the media.
A face full of ice cold water brought Mia back to reality. “Wow, you okay?” a young male voice asked.
“Yeah, just friggin awesome,” Mia answered, spitting ou
t water as she spoke.
“That was quite a hit you took there, girl,” the guy said, and as Mia looked across at him, she noticed genuine concern on his reasonably cute face.
She smiled at him, “I’m fine and so grateful for waterproof mascara!” The young girl sitting next to Mia burst into fits of giggles, and Mia couldn’t help joining in.
“Mia ...” She laughed, holding out a cold, wet hand toward the girl.“Eliza,” the girl smiled shaking Mia’s hand while nodding toward Mr. Concerned Guy. “I’m Dwayne’s girlfriend by the way; we met while at Thrill Seekers.”
Thrill Seekers was the name of Cody’s adventure center, which Mia thought was a dumb name, but the teenagers seemed to like it.
“So what do you think of the center so far?” Mia asked trying to shout above the crashing water.
“Love it, and Cody’s so hot!” Eliza replied glancing across at Dwayne, who seemed completely oblivious to Eliza’s comments so Mia guessed he probably couldn’t hear them.
She hadn’t thought about Cody in that way but now shot him a look and noticed him staring directly at both her and Eliza. She felt her face starting to glow with the warmth of her embarrassment and lowered her green eyes to the floor of the raft instantly.
“Shit!” she muttered under her breath. Mia knew she didn’t exactly look like a supermodel right now with her long black hair scrunched up under the extremely unflattering red helmet plonked unceremoniously on her head. She was dressed in a pale blue and black shorty style wetsuit provided by the center, which did enhance her petite figure beautifully as it clung to her sexy body, so that was something.
She dared to glance in Cody’s direction again, and now he was looking ahead at the river and steering the raft with his paddle. Mia couldn’t help noting the way his wet suit clung to his muscular physique as he moved; perhaps Eliza was right with her ‘hot’ description after all. He stood at around 6’2” with an athletic build and piercing blue eyes, his hair was a sandy-blond color and always worn back in a low ponytail.
Cody was ruggedly handsome. I could stretch to calling you hot, I guess. Mia felt herself blushing at her thoughts as she imagined Cody’s strong arms wrapping around her slim body, his firm but gentle hands dropping down her back and pulling her close to him by grabbing her pert ass.
Mia shifted in her seat slightly as she experienced the delightful first feelings of sexual arousal between her smooth thighs; she bit down on her bottom lip as her imagination traveled further along her sensuous journey with Cody.
He placed a finger under her chin and gently tilted her face toward him before capturing her full and throbbing lips with a lingeringly intoxicating kiss. Cody’s warm tongue slipped between her parted lips and plunged into her mouth; her tongue found his, and they danced an erotic dance together. Cody pulled her slim body toward him, still holding her ass and now squeezing it firmly.
“Hold on guys big wave coming up!” Cody yelled, making Mia leap out of her fictional world and straight back into the cold and wet world of reality.
Get a friggin grip girl; jeez, what’s wrong with you? You’re here to get a story not a piece of his ass. Mia felt wicked, but in a good way. She was 24-years-old, and for the last few months had been single; it’d been a long time since a guy had held her close, let alone had sex with her. She was only here as a journalist, but there were no rules saying she couldn’t get involved with anyone relating to the story.
Cody was so damn arrogant, though, but did that matter when he was having sex with her? Probably not. She was pretty certain his bulging erection wouldn’t be arrogant as it thrust into the dampness between her silky smooth legs.
Mia pulled herself together as the raft approached the center, and the teenagers all let out a loud cheer as Cody steered the raft toward the edge.
He carefully jumped out and secured the raft before turning and helping the bedraggled gang off the raft one by one. Mia was the last to climb out, and as she reached for his strong hand and began climbing out, she stumbled and fell against him.
“Oops, sorry my legs have gone to sleep!” She giggled, sounding just like a helpless teenager.
“Watch the goddamn sneakers. I doubt someone like you could even dream of owning a pair of these!” he snapped at her, pushing her away with such contempt that Mia felt utterly worthless.
“I doubt that someone like me would ever want to wear such a ridiculous pair of sneakers in the first place, and especially when white water rafting.” As she spoke the words, she could hear Eliza and Dwayne giggling in front of her.
Cody stared down at her and tutted loudly, “You friggin journalists are all the same, so opinionated,” and with those parting words he stomped off toward the center.
“Jeez, why’s he being such a jerk all of a sudden? He seemed okay before,” Eliza whispered to Mia.
“Sometimes girl, you’re so blind to what’s happening in front of your nose.” Dwayne laughed as he slowed down and walked beside them. “He obviously wants a piece of Mia; he likes her, can’t you two see that? A guy generally acts like a jerk around a girl he likes, and I don’t think Mr. Billionaire there’s seen a lot of action in his life, if you get my meaning.”
Mia laughed. “Yeah, right whatever; the guy hates me. I bet he doesn’t even know my friggin name.”
“Mia, Eliza, Dwayne come on stop dragging your feet; everyone’s waiting on you three,” Cody shouted and then looked completely perplexed by the fact that the three culprits burst into fits of laughter.
“My point proved to absolute perfection!” Dwayne sniggered.
It was the center’s policy to always complete a headcount on returning from any of the outdoor activities just to ensure nobody had been left behind without anyone noticing. The gang was all stood around in the lobby waiting when they arrived.
“At last the stragglers grace us with their company,” Cody sneered. “Right that’s everyone here safe and sound. It was a good raft today guys. Don’t forget our hike tomorrow through the Banff National Park to Johnston Canyon and also remember to wear suitable clothing; just because it might seem hot, the shaded areas of the trail will be cooler.”
“I heard it can be dangerous dude, is that right?” someone in the gang asked.
“Yes, it can be, but don’t worry, we’re doing it in August and not in January so there’ll be no ice to deal with, and as long as you stick to the fixed catwalks, you’ll be perfectly safe. It’s the jerks who climb over the viewing platforms and wander away from the catwalks who get into trouble. People have been tragically killed by being jerks,” Cody replied.
“Oh, terrific,” Mia whispered.
“Something you’d like to share with everyone, Mia?”
“Nope, Cody nothing,” she replied, feeling like a naughty schoolchild.
“Glad to hear it! Now get ready for supper everyone and have a good night; I’ll catch you all in the morning,” Cody said as he left the building.
Mia made her way to her room: a simple affair with very basic furnishings, but it did have its own bathroom with a shower, which pleased Mia as she didn’t really like the idea of sharing a bathroom.
All in all, the day hadn’t been terrible. Cody was still as arrogant as ever. Mia couldn’t work out what his deal was; he was filthy rich, handsome or hot as Eliza put it, had a successful business and was still arrogant. His comment about his sneakers was totally uncalled for. Everyone else had to wear neoprene booties but not Cody, “Oh no, you can wear what you friggin want just cos it’s your business,” she muttered.
Were Dwayne’s words true? Did Cody like her? Surely not; he was a billionaire, and she was simply a journalist from Vancouver, they’d nothing in common. He was hot, though, she could see the truth in Eliza’s statement.
As she began daydreaming about him once again, Mia started to feel aroused; she craved his hands on her slim body. She reached her arms up and removed the red helmet, shaking her head as she did so, letting her long black hair cascade over her slim shou
lders.
Mia had her mom to thank for her petite figure; she was an only child and had led a relatively lonely life. Journalism had always been her goal, and she’d fought long and hard to be taken seriously as girls entering the profession were never expected to be proficient in the career. She’d done well, though, and surprised everyone, even herself.
Her present boss was a fair man who seemed to take a shine to Mia’s enthusiasm. The ‘Cody’ story had appealed to Mia as she’d always been fascinated by his wealth and often wondered what the man behind the money was like as a person.
Mia plonked herself down on the edge of the bed and peeled the blue short neoprene booties off. Not exactly a fashion statement, she thought with a smile, but they were provided by the center, and everyone had to wear them; everyone except Cody, of course. The booties doubled up as socks, and Mia was surprised to find her dainty feet were dry.
“Right, now to do battle with you!” Mia addressed the tight fitting wet suit in the full-length mirror. The back zipper was meant to be easier than a chest zipper according to Cody, but Mia doubted his words as she did her best impersonation of a contortionist to find the tab on the zipper, which she eventually did. It felt good as she peeled the neoprene suit down her slim body revealing her lightly tanned smooth skin clad only in her tiny yellow bikini.
She wondered what Cody would think of her body. Would he like her pert and beautifully formed breasts, her rose-tipped erect nipples, the way her smoother than silk skin was as warm as honey and where he’d find the slick wetness of her excitement for him between her sexy legs?
Mia touched her throbbing nipples through her bikini and gasped at how good her fingers felt. She moaned softly as her hands traveled over her naked tummy and made their way to her smooth thighs where they lingered before moving across to the warmth between her legs.
“Hmm,” Mia sighed as one hand snaked up and inside her bikini panties. She laid back on the bed with just her bikini on and the hand inside her panties beginning to find her wetness while the other hand made its way inside her bikini top.
