Land Girls, The Promise Page 34

by Roland Moore

She made a sudden, impulsive decision. She raced back into the house. She knew she would be late for her shift, but she didn’t care. She could make up the time tonight. But right now, she needed to do something more than she had ever needed to do anything before. She had to put things right and heal the pain from the past.

Margot Dawson opened her bureau and took out her writing paper.

Tears rolled down her face as she started to write a letter back to her daughter.

  Acknowledgements

I feel blessed to be able to tell another story, following the exploits of the Land Girls. Thank you to my family for their endless support and encouragement. Thanks too to Julia Wyatt and James Anderson for everything they do. Thank you to Charlotte Ledger and Eloisa Clegg at HarperImpulse for their enthusiasm and talent in making this a reality – and thank you to Jo Godfrey Wood and Suzy Clarke for their eagle eyes and great ideas. It’s been wonderful to centre a story around Iris Dawson – and I thank Lou Broadbent for bringing the character so vividly to life in the television series, and thus inspiring her portrayal in this story. Thanks again to all the team at BBC Birmingham who worked on the television series. And last, but in no way least, I’d like to thank all the people who have enjoyed the first novel and who continue to champion the television series. Thank you to those of you who have given lovely reviews. I hope you enjoy this story.

Roland Moore is the award-winning series creator and scriptwriter of the BBC1 period drama Land Girls. He’s delighted to be able to expand on that world in a new series of novels for HarperCollins.

His lovely wife is a great source of support and his son often comes up with helpful suggestions – even if they mostly involve laser beams and robots.
