“Do you want me to call her?” Brandi asked, her eyes red and swollen. Her voice hoarse from crying.

“What I need you to do is rest for a little while. Take a few days to yourself and your emotions. I don't know why god made you the survivor but I praise lord that he did. I don't know how it feels to lose a child.” Her mother got up from the bed and sighed heavily as she did something that she hadn't done in a long time.

Brandi laid down in the bed and closed her eyes. Her mother covered her up and tucked her in praying that she would get a restful sleep knowing that Brandi would need all the strength she could gather over the next couple of days. When they called the police she would have to tell her story all over again.

“I love you mom.” Brandi whispered to her as she drifted off to sleep, hearing her mother walk across the room to leave the bedroom.

“I love you too Brandi.” She told her softly, going back to the bed and kissing her on the forehead before leaving and going to make the call that she would dread for the rest of her life. She never had to tell someone their child was dead and she knew the best thing she could do was be there and listen to Jen's mom when she cried and went through the heartache. She guessed in a way that she had lied and lost a child herself because Jen was always over when her and Brandi were little. They were always getting into trouble together.

Brandi had let her mother read the note and she thought it would be only fair to let Jen's mother read it as well. Glad that Brandi did the right thing and told her what had happened instead of keeping it locked inside.

Heading downstairs and walking into the kitchen slowly, stalling as she reached the kitchen door way and saw the phone hanging on the wall. Glad that she still had a house phone still when everyone else had switched to cell phones.

Picking up the phone and taking a seat as she dialed Jen's mother. She wished that she wouldn't pick up on the other line and keep the bad news from her.

“Hi Andrea, look about the nightmare I had last night. I'm sorry I called you crying.” Judy laughed into the phone.

“Judy there's something I need to tell you.” Andrea began crying before she could get the words out.

“Why are you crying? What happened?” Judy asked her, fear sounding in her voice.

“Jen and two other kids died last night. I think that maybe you should come over here and talk with me so that I can explain what I know.” Andrea told her through her sobs.

“Tell me your lying! Tell me you're lying to me and its some sick joke!” Judy yelled into the phone.

Andrea hung up the phone knowing that Judy would be over in a matter of minutes. Looking up at the ceiling she said a silent prayer for Judy and Jen. Thankful that Brandi was spared and sleeping upstairs.

“Lord I don't dare ask why you saved my little girl. I wish that you could have saved them all lord. I really wish they were here this morning so that we wouldn't have to go through so much pain.” Andrea whispered out loud, feeling the tear drops flood out of her eyes and down her cheeks.

There was a knock on the kitchen door that made her jump. Looking out the window it was Judy her face pale as a ghost and Andrea thought she was going to pass out on the door step.

“Come in.” Andrea opened the door and ushered her in.

“What has happened to Jennifer?” Judy asked, her eyes filled with fear and tears. All she knew was that her daughter was dead.

“Sit down first. Sit down so that I can tell you what happened.” Andrea pulled out a kitchen chair. It would be safer to tell her when Judy was sitting.

Judy just looked at her and nodded her head. Andrea closed her eyes for a moment as she sat down beside her. Knowing how much torture it was for Brandi to tell her the events as they had happened. It was going to be hard to explain it to Judy. Andrea prayed for the strength to tell Judy all of it without leaving anything out.....................

  The End.
