TheGeorge Washington andNimitz carrier task forces were present in the Persian Gulf during November 1997, although I may have fudged slightly on theGeorge Washington’s deployment.The deployment of theSpringfield and other attack boats is fictional. However American carriers never leave home without one or two attack boats somewhere in the neighborhood.
The PLAN has fiveHan Class boats numbered401 to405. The 1994 incident between theKitty Hawk and the Chinese Navy took place. The401 was retired due to radiation problems. The concept of turning the404 into a delivery truck is fictional. China is attempting to build a blue water navy to challenge American interests in the Pacific. It is folly to ignore this burgeoning threat.
Aldrich Ames was one of the most devastating KGB agents ever uncovered. His treachery certainly sent several hundred people to their deaths. The espionage envisioned between China and the United States is fictionalized. In my opinion, China will continue to be a threat.
There is a karate school more or less where it was placed in Chapter 2. While I do not train there, those folks know their stuff. Finally, there is a big, black dog namedIndiana Jones.
