Written on My Heart Page 23

by Cole Gibsen

  “It’s beautiful,” I finally whisper.

He smiles. “So you like it?”

  “I love it.”

He arches an eyebrow. “So now you’re just going to throw that word around? And here I was thinking I was special.”

I swat him with my free hand. “You’re an idiot.”

“So this is how it is? I buy you jewelry, and you immediately turn into a prima donna?”

“Hey!” I move to swat him again, but he catches my wrist in midair and pulls me against him.

The scent of him, citrus and warm, fills my lungs. My knees weaken and the familiar ropes of desire ripple through me.

“Do you have homework tonight?” he asks, his voice low. “Do you have any exams you need to study for?”

It takes me several tries before I’m able to speak past the lump in my throat. “No. I took my last final yesterday.”

“So there’s no reason to go back to your apartment tonight?” He winds an arm around my waist, pulling me tight. My pulse races.

  “No.”

He lowers his lips to my ear. His breath is hot on my neck and I shiver. “Then don’t go home. Stay. Be mine tonight.” His fingers press into my skin, claiming me, and a burn ignites deep inside me because I want to be claimed. “Stay.” He accentuates his request by grabbing my hips and grinding the swell inside his jeans against me.

My breathing quickens, and my muscles coil with need. “But we agreed Harper—”

“Loves you,” he finishes. His lips brush against my ear, sending tingling waves coursing down my body. “And so do I.”

His words go straight to my heart where they burn pleasantly, like the lingering ache of a tattoo. God, will I ever tire of hearing him say them?

“It’s almost Harper’s bedtime,” Lane continues. “After I get her to bed I can show you how much.”

I grin and reach for his belt. “You really want me to stay that badly?”

His answer is a noise that’s half groan, half growl.

With nimble fingers, I quickly unfasten his buckle and slide the leather strap from his belt loops in one fluid motion.

He leans back and arches an eyebrow seductively. Suddenly I have the crazy urge to lick his eyebrow, among other things. “What are you doing?”

“You want me to stay?” I fold the belt and snap the leather together making it crack. I want him to take me like he did before, to claim me as his before driving me to the edge and back again. “You’re going to have to make me.”

“That’s how it’s going to be?” His grin is devilish. He slides his hand into my hair and pulls my head back, forcing me to look up at him.

The thrill of being ensnared shoots through me and I gasp.

“If you want me to make you, I’ll make you.” The low rumble of his chest reverberates into my skin. “Just remember to say when.”
