Andrew bounded around a corner ahead. “Josie!”

He dashed the last steps and took her into his arms. No matter what he’d done, he felt wonderful. “I tried to find you during that storm and since then. Your whole family was gone.”

  Sandy left them.

Andrew peered into Josie’s eyes. “I’m so glad you made it.” He glanced at her arm. “And Colin?”

“He’s good. Or he will be.”

“Great.” Andrew moved so close she wanted to hold onto him and not let go. Yet he’d done that horrible thing. “Josie, I didn’t gamble. I didn’t lose Colin’s money.”

With a deep sigh, Josie drew her head back. “Let’s take a long trip,” she said, “maybe on your bike. And either before that or afterward, we could get married.”

Andrew responded with a hearty chuckle. He clutched Josie’s waist. Together they walked to her room.

  She paused.

Andrew glanced at her and she smiled as their steps resumed. No longer did Josie hear her parents haunting. The only footsteps she could now hear belonged to her and the man who would soon become her husband.
