“I…I hadn’t thought of that,” Ricky said, looking a little brighter.
“If you want to start helping now, Ricky, I need you to go back to camp and set up a bigger infirmary for all of these Scouts.” Mike raised his voice so everyone could clearly hear him. “That means if Ricky asks for anything, you are all to pitch in and help. We have our fellow Scouts to save. And then…who knows. Maybe we can help out more people with what we have learned.”
Steve leaned close to Mike and spoke quietly. “You know this one little victory doesn’t mean it’s over. We might still lose Larry and the others.”
Mike shrugged. “We’ve already lost Larry and the others once. I expect we may lose others. Regardless, this is the first time we have gotten one back since Michael. I’m willing to celebrate the win for as long as it lasts. We all need that bit of hope.”
“I can’t argue with that,” Steve replied. He looked at the flurry of activity as some Scouts carried Larry to the camp, Michael holding his hand. Others herded the secured dead and still others helped the new refugees. “What do you say we get started saving the world?”
“I’m right behind you,” Mike said.
