The powerful combination of sexually urgent need, overwhelming love, and the rush of vitality brought Ned to his release. With his teeth locked in Anne’s throat, he came hard, body shuddering as he pumped his seed into Anne’s body. She convulsed against him with a long moan, her arms tight around his body. At the ultimate, final moment Ned pulled his teeth out and they came together. He went blind for a few seconds, unable to see, do nothing but feel and they rocked to a stop. He collapsed beside Anne, spent but happier than he could ever remember being. “I love you,” he whispered, first in Comanche, then in English. “Forever.”
Anne curled against his chest as a smile played across her lips. “I love you, too,” she replied. “I don’t feel any different, not yet.”
“You will, honey,” he said. “But I’ll help you and teach you what I know. It’s not much but we’re together and will be always. I want to marry you, Anne.”
“Good,” she said as her fingers caressed his skin. “I want the whole bride thing, white dress, lacy veil, flowers, cake and family. Since I’m only doing it once, I want it all.”
“You got it,” Ned told her.
They cuddled together for a long time, not speaking but content. “This is for real, right?” Anne asked in a voice light with amusement.
Ned chuckled. “It’s as real as it gets, honey. And it’s forever.”
“My man’s a wild Comanche warrior.” Anne sounded drowsy and more than a little dreamy. “I don’t even want to think about how old you must be, but it doesn’t matter.”
“I was,” Ned told her. “Now I’m still Comanche, but I’m a vampire and a card dealer.”
“And you’re mine,” Anne added.
He liked that and nodded. “I’m yours and a Comanche forever.”
Ned didn’t know where they’d go or end up. He had no clue when they’d marry, but they would. Technology would change, but the earth would continue. The rocks remained, he mused, and the sun still came up with beauty each morning. He’d still need to take blood and would be undead until the end of time. But he had Anne and they shared a love with power. Their existence might not be life, but it came closer than anything he’d known in more than a century and he liked it.
And he loved her.
It was enough and more.
