“I’m not sure I want to know,” Jenna bit her lip and eyed Rafe.

“Tonight, I must dance for you, my wife,” Rafe said, giving a little twirl.

“And whoever else happens to be on the street at the time,” Kyran added.

Jenna couldn’t hold it in. She laughed so hard she gasped for breath. Eve joined her, and they nearly fell over.

“A bet is a bet,” Finn repeated.

“Seriously, what was the bet over?” Jenna wiped the laughter tears from her eyes. “Unless your bet was to watch me knock myself out on a pole first, I know it wasn’t about my following you home.”

“He swore he would never give up his bachelor ways,” Finn said.

“But then I saw you come into the diner, and I lost.” Rafe reached for his wife. “So this is for you.”

“You’re lucky you’re charming because I don’t have a thing for men in tutus and leotards.” Jenna leaned up for his kiss. The fluffy tulle pressed between them, and she couldn’t help but start laughing again. She pulled back and said, “You better not get arrested in that thing because I promised the queen that I would use my money to buy movies and language books. I don’t want to have to bail you out of jail instead.”

Jenna touched her messenger bag. Inside were her apartment keys and wallet. It felt strange to be going home. The plan was to empty her bank account, buy supplies, and leave a note for her landlord that she was vacating the apartment after gathering what belongings she wanted to keep. It made her sad to think no one on Earth would miss her.

As if sensing her small wave of sorrow, Rafe put his hands around her waist and pulled her close. When he looked at her, she still felt as if it was the first time, like his love for her was new and perfect and untainted. “I would wear a thousand tutus so long as I get to keep you.”

“That sounded more romantic in your head, didn’t it?” Jenna pressed her forehead to his and gazed into his eyes. “And I would wear a thousand tutus for you too.”

“And nothing else?” Rafe grinned. “I will hold you to that, m’lady.”

  Jenna chuckled, knowing he would.

“Let’s go already,” Eve insisted, stepping up to the swirling purple light of the portal and kneeling to go in. The men had warned them that the other side of this particular portal trip was a tighter fit. “I am so hungry. I want cheeseburgers, and pie, and a pizza, and tacos, and ice cream, and—”

Finn pushed Eve into the portal, and she disappeared.

“Hey,” Kyran growled at his brother before jumping in after his wife.

“That woman is obsessed with cheeseburgers.” Finn stepped in and disappeared.

Now that they were alone, Rafe touched Jenna’s cheek lovingly. “I am obsessed with you, my wife. I am sorry if tonight will be hard for you. I know you gave up an entire world to stay with me.”

“Silly man,” Jenna whispered. She wrapped her arms around his neck and let her lips lightly brush against his. “Tonight is about tying up loose ends. You are my world. I don’t need anything else. I have no regrets.”

“I only have a single regret,” he said, eyeing her hair. “That I will probably not be able to give you a daughter. I would have liked it very much to see her with hair and eyes like yours.”

“I will take whatever fate has in store for us. I love you. That is what matters.” Jenna knew someday they would have children but for now they enjoyed each other’s company. According to the Var, when Jenna married Rafe their life force had combined and she would live as long as he. So they had hundreds of years to talk about babies.

“And I you, m’lady.” Rafe closed the small distance between their lips and pulled her with him into the portal. As their bodies dissolved into a million little pieces to make the journey to Earth nothing mattered but that they were together.
