Ain’t He Precious? Page 13

by Juliette Poe

And that’s all I get out because she’s out of her seatbelt and launching herself at me across the seat. Her mouth slams into mine, and then it’s all over.

  The discussion, that is.

Everything else is just starting. From where I’m sitting… it’s off to a phenomenal beginning.

  CHAPTER 20

  Pap Mancinkus

  Afterthoughts…

So, there may have been a little bit of rust on that old love between Trixie and Ry, but they managed to knock it off in quick order and polish their lives up a bit in the process. I honestly never doubted it would turn out the way it did. I could see the connection those two had from the moment Ry stepped into town, and I could see the determination in my granddaughter that she wasn’t going to let him get away again.

Here’s the thing about living in a small southern town, from a Yankee’s perspective.

They do things a bit differently.

The pace of life is slower.

  The people are sometimes crazy.

The food is fried and artery clogging.

  The tea is definitely sweeter.

But I think the real reason that Trixie wanted to stay here, and why Ry eventually saw the merit in settling in Whynot, is because the hearts of southerners are as fertile as the farmland. They accept, grow, nurture, and accommodate. At the crux of that is family, and the heart forever expands and contracts to keep the bonds safe and secure, allowing growth where necessary but providing comfort when needed.

Bottom line… the hearts of the Mainer-Mancinkus family opened wide up and accepted Ry Powers into the fold as one of their own.

And bonus… I have another Yankee in the family to commiserate with.

Now I have to turn my attention to Lowe and figure out how to get that boy’s head on straight before he really gets himself in trouble.
