Obsession (Seven Deadly Sins Book 2) Page 26

by Shantel Tessier

“Help me!” I scream as hot tears run down my face. I killed him. I killed Brecken. He’s the only one who would save me right now.

I buck as hard as I can, and I hit his inner thigh because he grunts again as his hands loosen on my wrists. I pull them free and start swinging again. The sound of my hands slapping skin fills the dark room. The man readjusts himself on top of me and then he catches my wrists again. “Brecken,” I scream. “Stop!” I cry as I feel something thick and unforgiving around them. They’re yanked back above my head and then I’m tied down. I try to yank on them but nothing. He’s tied them to something.

“Help him!” I cry out to anyone who can hear me. Where do they have me? Where did Brecken go? “Please.” I sob

A hand slaps over my mouth. I try to talk and shake my head to get it off, but it doesn’t. He’s too strong.

I stiffen when I feel a hardness on my lower belly. Oh God. “You’re okay, Skye,” a deep voice whispers. A voice that sounds familiar. Is that Brecken? “I’m gonna remove my hand from your mouth,” he says, breathing heavy. “It’s me, Skye. You’re okay. It’s Brecken.”

I stay stiff as he slowly removes his hand from my mouth. “Brecken?” I say sucking in a deep breath.

“Yes, baby. It’s me,” comes his reply.

“Oh, thank God.” It had been a dream.

  “Skye …”

“Please,” I beg as I yank on my hands. “Please undo my hands.” It’s too dark, and I can’t move.

There’s no answer, but a soft light comes on from beside the bed. He’s leaning over me. His face is red with handprints. His chest the same. “Brecken.” I yank on my hands. I arch my back to look up at them and see his belt is wrapped around them. My throat catches as I yank on them. “Brecken,” I gasp. “Please. Undo them.” I yank on them again and again. Frantically needing to be free right now. The nightmare too real.

The next thing I know, they’re free, and he grabs them. He holds them tightly in his hand to his warm chest. “Baby, look at me!” he demands.

I can’t see him through my tears. “Skye?” I hear him shout. He releases my hands, and I wrap them around his neck. I sob into his bare chest as he sits us upright. His large arms wrap around my chest. He hugs me tightly to him as he runs his hands up and down my back. Gently. “Shhhh,” he says softly. “You’re okay. I got you.” I hear him through my tears.

I’m tired of people dying on me. I’m tired of seeing people get killed because of me. “I’m sorry.” I sob, holding onto him tightly. “I’m so sorry.”

  CHAPTER TWENTY TWO

  BRECKEN

She shakes her head, and a sob wracks her body. I just hold her tightly because I have no idea what is going on. One minute, I was asleep, and the next, she was screaming and beating on me. “I’m sorry,” she cries.

“For what?” I ask confused, still holding her. “What are you sorry for, Skye?”

She buries her head into my chest and whispers, “For killing you.”

Killing me? She had a dream that she killed me? I pry her from my arms as she protests. “Look at me, Skye,” I demand. Her eyes are shut, and tears fall down her face. “Skye?” I shake her. She gasps as her eyes open. “I’m alive,” I say placing her hands on my chest. “Look at me. Listen to me. I’m alive, babe,” I say a little gentler. “I’m okay,” I say again. And I can see my words getting through the fog with every word. Her glossy eyes clear and her cries quiet. “I’m right here, baby. Right here with you.”

  “Brecken …”

I know nothing about her past. All I know is that she dated a shitty guy and her best friend was brutally killed. And I want to know everything about her. I want to help her not only with finding Tiffany’s killer but with her nightmares as well. Has everyone left her, so now, she’s afraid I may leave her as well? Why would she think she killed me? How did she kill me? I want to know so much, but right now, with her eyes red and puffy, her lips wet with tears, and her chest heaving from sobs, I want to take them away. I want to show her that I’m right here and that I still own her. I promised her that I would take care of her, and I can’t keep that promise if I’m dead.

I press my lips to hers. They tremble against mine. “Kiss me, baby,” I say softly. “Let me prove it to you.”

Her lips part, and I kiss them softly. Tasting her tears. Her fear of being left alone again. I push my tongue through her lips and stroke hers. It only takes a few seconds before she is moving with me. Kissing me back.

Her arms go back around my neck, and this time, I let her. Her nails dig into my skin, and I hiss in a breath as her teeth nip my lips. She moves to her knees and shoves me backward onto the comforter. My head now at the foot of the bed. I reach up my hands gripping her face, and I pull her down to me.

She slides a hand between our bodies and I moan when she grips my already hard cock. I didn’t wake up hard, but a sick part of me liked the fight with her. Her desperate cries for me. The way she was panting and squirming turned me on. Moments later, she is sliding down onto me. Her lips open in a gasp as she pushes her hips down. I close my eyes as her tight pussy sucks me in. Gripping me like a vise.

Her hands flatten on my chest, and she digs her nails into my skin as she starts to move. Her hips frantic and her tits just above my face. I reach up and grab them, massaging them roughly with my hands as she has her way with me. Fucks me as if she’s never gonna get another chance.

Her cries and my pants fill the room that only seconds ago had her screaming for help. Screaming my name.

I arch my back as she takes me for everything I got, and she comes. Her head thrown back and her back arched. She screams out my name again, but only this time, there is no fear. Just pleasure.

I shove her over onto her back and don’t stop as I take my turn. She lies beneath me panting with her eyes half closed. I can feel her cum run down my balls. I lean back and place my hand on her clit. I rub it with my thumb, and her body physically jerks at how sensitive she is now. But I don’t give up. I want her to forget whatever she dreamed. Whatever she saw. If she does kill me, it will be from a heart attack. And boy, what a way that would be to go.

  ***

“Do you wanna talk about it?” I ask her as we lie side by side; soft light comes in through the window now that the sun is starting to rise.

She’s curled into my side with one arm over my chest. “No,” she says softly.

“I can’t help you, Skye, if you don’t talk to me,” I urge her. Now that the sex is over, I want to know why she dreamed she killed me. Why she feels I’m gonna leave her.

She lets out a long breath. “I was gonna shoot James, but you were trying to stop me.” She pauses. “We were in an alleyway. You had called for backup. When they got there, all they saw was that I was holding a gun, James standing in front of me, and you standing to the side of me. You kept telling me to put the gun down. But I wouldn’t listen. I wanted to kill him so bad. He deserved to die for what he did to Tiffany.” She sniffs. “Then you started screaming no. You were staring at my chest.” Her voice lowers to a whisper. “You pushed me out of the way as they started shooting me. It killed you.”

I pull my body from hers and turn to face her. I place my hand on her face, and I wipe a single tear away. “That would never happen,” I say truthfully.

“I know,” she says softly. “Like you would die to save me.”

My chest tightens at her words. “Skye, that’s not what I meant,” I say with a frown. Her dark green eyes look up at mine, and I see unshed tears in them. “Of course, I would die for you.”

“You don’t have to lie to me …”

“I’m not.” I sigh. “I told you that you could trust me. I meant with your life. I would do whatever I could to protect you. That means taking a bullet for you.” It’s not because I’ve slept with her. It’s not because my friends think I have feelings for her. It’s because I don’t want to see someone hurt her. This woman has nobody. I have to take care of her. Protect h
er. And I’m not lying. I would protect her with my life.

“It was awful,” she whispers. “I kept screaming your name, and you just laid there, covered in blood.” She reaches up, and her fingers run over my scar where I was shot. My body tenses. “Who shot you?” she asks quietly. “Did you take the bullet for someone else?”

“No,” I say remembering that night. “Case was working an undercover case with Taylor’s brother, Blane. Blane had gone out that night to make an exchange, and they made him. Beat him up pretty good. Blane had been trying to get a hold of Case, but he wasn’t answering, so he called me. I went and picked Blane up and then took him up at Seven Deadly Sins where Case was staying at the time with Taylor.” I run a hand down my face. “A lot of shit happened all at once that night. Taylor found out that Case was an undercover cop—”

“What?” she asks, interrupting me. “She hadn’t known?”

I shake my head. “No. She didn’t need to know,” I add then go back to my story. “Anyway, Case, Taylor, and Blane were all in the middle of a fight when the glass in the office shattered. We all fell to the floor as shots rang out. As soon as they stopped, I ran out of the office with my gun drawn. I always have one on me.”

“Always?” she asks sounding surprised, and I nod.

“Miller ran out after me. There were four of them inside the club. All dressed in black, wearing ski masks. We had no idea who they were. Miller and I just started shooting them. I had no idea if anyone up in the office was injured or dead. I just knew I was alive and had to stop them before they got to my friends. One ran out of the club, and I followed him. I was running down the back alley when he jumped out from behind a dumpster. I didn’t think he would be hiding. My mind just assumed he was running. As soon as I saw him, I started shooting. I killed him, but he had already hit me.”

“What did you do?” she asks wide-eyed.

“I laid there.” I chuckle to myself. “There wasn’t much to do. Thankfully, Miller came running out to find me lying there.”

  “Then what happened?” she asks.

“I don’t remember. I had passed out there in the alleyway. When I woke up, I was in the hospital in ICU. Miller was there and told me I was gonna be okay. We found out later that Rachel had ordered it.”

“In an alleyway?” she asks frowning. “You were shot in an alleyway?” she asks again.

  I nod. “Why?”

“Because that’s where you were in my dream. I mean it wasn’t where Seven Deadly Sins is, but it was in an alleyway. And I felt like I had been there before. Like I was repeating an event that had already happened,” she says as she stares off into the distance. “And James … it was weird. I couldn’t make out his face, but I just knew it was him.”

I reach up and run my hand through her dark hair. “It was just a dream, Skye.”

She looks at me, her eyes soft. “It may have been a dream, but it felt so real.”

I smile at her. She may have dreamed she killed me, but I feel happy. She cried because she thought she had killed me. She was distraught. This woman in my bed feels something for me. And I know I’m starting to feel something for her.

  ***

The following night, I’m sitting up in my office at Seven Deadly Sins when Case walks in. “Oh,” he says in surprise. “I didn’t know you were here yet.” He frowns. “I didn’t see your Range Rover outside.”

“Skye has it,” I tell him. “Her car is totaled, after all.” She had to work tonight, so I had her just drop me off.

He stops walking and stares at me wide-eyed. “So you loaned her your Range Rover?”

  I nod. “Yep.”

He lets out a whistle as he starts walking. “You have it worse than I thought.” I ignore that. “How is she doing?”

She hasn’t had any more nightmares, but it has only been two days. Last night, I took off to stay home with her. She was feeling a little sore when she woke up yesterday, but I think that was from her waking up from her dream and punching me in the face. And I’m sure the sex we had after that didn’t help her. “She’s good. Was a little sore yesterday but was much better this morning.”

“That’s good to hear. Have you heard from Jet?”

“I spoke to him earlier today, and he was going up to Throb tonight to try to speak with James. He said he would come up here afterward.”

“You don’t think James will put a tail on him?”

I shrug my shoulders. “Let him. They will just lead them here. And we have nothing to hide.”

He runs his hand through his hair. “Yeah, but do we want to piss him off?”

“I already have,” I say simply “Oscar is in ICU. In a coma. He has to know I did it. Plus, we went to him asking about Gen.”

  “Yeah, but …”

The door opens, and Miller pops his head in. “Rusty is in Greed waiting on you.” I smile.

I rub my hands together. “Let’s go collect some money.” We walk out of the office and down the stairs. After we weave through the busy club, we enter the room and see him already standing there waiting for me. He’s already laid out the money he owes me on the coffee table. The man learned his lesson last time.

“Case,” he says excitedly. He then narrows his eyes at me. Aw, he’s still pissed at me from roughing him up. He’s really gonna hate me when I’m done with him tonight.

“Rusty.” Case greets him with a smile. “I heard you tried to cheat me of our deal?”

His smile drops off his face. “It’s all there,” he growls.

“I believe you, but that’s not why I asked you here tonight.” This fucker was harder to get a hold of than I thought. When he finally called me back last night while I laid in bed with Skye, I told him that if I had to come and get him, I was gonna break both of his legs. He didn’t care too much for that threat.

He sighs. “What did you want then?” He looks down at his watch as if I’m really keeping him from something important, or he just wants to leave.

“Are we keeping you from something?” I ask. He goes to open his mouth, but I couldn’t care less what plans he had. It was a rhetorical question. “What have you found out about Gen?”

“Nothing, man. No one seems to know anything.”

  “I don’t believe you.”

He throws his hands out to his side. “Why do you care about Gen? I was just coming to pay off what I owed and then get the fuck out of here.”

“You’re here because last time we spoke, you said that you had information for me and then you disappeared. I haven’t heard anything about it. Until a few days ago.”

“What do you mean a few days ago? What did you hear?” he asks getting concerned.

“There were two deaths. Both on it.” I lie about Tiffany. The toxicology has still not come back, but I bet when it does, she will test positive for it. “Then a man tries to drug a woman here in our club with it.”

He shakes his head quickly. “I have not heard that. You were misinformed.” Of course, he hasn’t heard about it. No one knew but Miller, Jet, and me. And the bastard Oscar is in a coma. Who is he gonna tell?

“No. I wasn’t,” I say taking a step toward him. He takes a step back. I smile because he has nowhere to go. “Now, tell me where I can find the drug.”

He places his hands up as if I’m going to start throwing punches. He’s right. “I don’t know.”

“Then how did you know about it in the first place?” I ask.

“I told you. A woman told me she had taken it,” he snaps.

“Who is this woman?” I ask calmly.

  “I don’t remember her name.”

Case snorts. “Where were you at when you heard this woman?” I ask.

He looks from me to Case. Case looks away; the guy knows he’s on his own with me. Case won’t save him. “I don’t want any trouble,” he says his voice shaking.

“Then just answer the questions,” I say with a careless shrug.

He swallows and then licks his lips. “Throb. I heard
it at Throb. They were having a party and …” Bingo!

“The club?” I ask, playing along. He nods. “Is that all you can give me?” He nods again, quicker this time. “So what you are saying is that you have no information for me whatsoever? Besides a woman and Throb?”

“I can get it,” he says looking from Case back to me.

“Well, the good thing is that you don’t need your arm in order to use your mouth.” I reach up and grab his arm. I spin him around, pressing his chest into the wall.

“No …” he screams, trying to push me away. “I know what she looked like. She was blonde …” I watch Case stiffen out of the corner of my eye. He knows what Tiffany looked like. I’ve shown him the case file. “She was with a guy…” He sucks in a deep breath.

My chest tightens as I open my mouth to ask my next question. “Was her name Tiffany?”

“Yes!” he shouts and starts nodding his head quickly. “That was her name…” Amazing what he can now remember.

“And the guy? Who was he?” I demand.

“FUCK!” he shouts as I pull his arm back a little more.

  “Tell me!” I demand.

“Robert.” He breathes. “His name was Robert.”

You know that feeling like you got kicked in the gut? You can’t breathe. You feel as if your heart physically stopped beating? That’s how I feel right now. “You’re lying,” I find myself saying, and I see Case frown. He doesn’t understand why I wouldn’t believe that. Skye is dead set on it being James. Why would Tiffany be out partying with Skye’s ex?

“I swear I’m not! His name was Robert!” His body starts to shake as he sobs, and I refrain from rolling my eyes at the pussy. But continue with my original plan. I pull back and hear a popping noise.

I release him, and he falls to the floor crying like a little bitch. I turn around to see Case looking at me as if confused and concern.

I turn back to Rusty and bend down to his eyes level. “Rusty?” I yell, grabbing a handful of his nappy hair. He whimpers. “I need you to listen to me,” I say as I look into his watery blue eyes. “I need you to find out where I can find Robert.” He closes his eyes. I shake his head still holding onto his head. “Do you understand me?” I demand. And he gives me a shaky yes as an answer. “If you don’t, I will break your other arm. Understand?” I ask.
