Her Calling (Emma Book 3) Page 20

by James Grey

“Emma, there’s someone waiting to see you,” smiles Lucy once I’ve had a drink and cooled down backstage.

Lucy and I are simply the best of friends nowadays, and she’s opened up to me more than anybody else. I admire her in so many ways, and like her even more now that she’s had a steady boyfriend for a couple of years now. He’s a terrific guy with his heart in exactly the right place, and his presence in her life has taken the business-like edge off her personality. We can even tease each other now.

  “Really, who is it?”

“I’m not going to tell you – it’s a surprise!”

“Oh come on, I’ve been slaving on a hot stage all night!”

“Maybe, but you’re not getting it out of me.”

“At least tell me, is it a good surprise?”

“Honestly I’m not sure, Emma. Just have a peek around that door, will you?”

I walk to the end of the corridor and prepare to cautiously poke my head out of the entrance. I’m wondering if it might be Sarah. Us living together is a distant memory now, as is the time that we were in some kind of relationship. I’d had to admit to myself that, much as I liked sex with women, anything like a relationship would have to be with a man. And with Sarah, things were just getting too close. Not to mention the fact that we annoyed each other so much!

We’re friends still, of course, and even play together now and then. Our reunions with Latifa and Alyssia are unbelievable – and long may they last. They just happen less often now. Because quite apart from my own travelling, the four of us are all over the planet.

Alyssia is working in Australia, having gone there with a cracking recommendation from the agency that trialled her in London – and which then begged her to stay on for a further year’s big-money work. Latifa is in Oman, apparently finding plenty of lucrative business, and still promising she’s going to score a Dunei harem invite some day. Sarah is still here, having moved to work with another top London agency after Lucy got out of the game.

Meeting up is tough, with so much distance between us. But the four of us do make an effort to meet somewhere in the world every six months though. All of us can afford the airline tickets now!

Is Sarah the one waiting for me outside the backstage area? She still likes to surprise me now and then when she’s feeling horny. Or maybe it’s the ever-supportive Martin, who’s been known to turn up to my talks without even bothering to ask me for a comp. But when I look around the door, it’s not Sarah. And it’s not Martin, either.

I blink several times when I see who’s there. It’s a man I remember very well. But we haven’t spoken in at least three years. In fact, it might even be a matter of years since I’ve so much as given him a thought.

It’s Charles. And I have to admit, he looks more gorgeous than ever.

He steps forward and gives me a light kiss on each cheek.

“You were magnificent, Emma,” he says. “You’re doing amazingly well.”

“Oh, er, thanks,” I say, feeling decidedly uncertain where this is going. A sweet and sour mix of feelings has suddenly come flooding back into my mind.

“I thought I’d wait a few years before asking you for another drink,” he smiles. “What are my chances now? Are you mad at me still?”

I gather myself with a deep breath, taking in the smiling sincerity of his soulful eyes.

“Let’s have a drink then,” I tell him, looking right at him. “Wait here while I get my coat.”

  About James Grey

He may write his fiction under a nom-de-plume, but James Grey has been widely published by magazines and newspapers around the world for the best part of two decades. He has generally spent his working life writing about significantly less embarrassing topics than hard-core sex.

Grey began writing erotica in the run-up to Christmas 2013, inspired by a quick visit to a sauna in Germany and prompted by a subsequent period of ennui at his aunt’s house in France. His self-published author ego was born a week or two later on a grim, hung-over New Year’s Day in England.

He has gone on to become a category best-seller on Amazon on more than one occasion, and is one of only a small handful of male authors writing erotica. Take a look at his Author Page or Fan Group, and you might even find a picture of him the well-travelled Grey at a book signing event.

Grey is in his thirties, juggles authoring with a full-time corporate writing job and lives in Europe.

  Thanks

Oh my, where do I even begin?

I guess I’ll start with you, dear reader. Thank you for buying this book – you’ve helped me to eat! And thanks for every like, share, review and wild raving about my signed copies. Remember, your seal of approval counts for everything in the book world.

Lori, thank you for your patience. And thanks too for all the stunning bookmarks, the grumpy 2am takeovers, those beautiful Excel spreadsheets (!) and the crisis management. I won’t forget you being with me in the most troubled of times, and your sticking on my side. You too, Sharon…you deserve wonderful things, and thanks so much for inspiring me.

Debs, you have been a star for your teasers, your help with sexy cover pictures and your role as Senior Tax Affairs Officer. The IRS still makes me want to seek out a tall building every time I hear its name, but you’ve helped me handle it all a little better than I might have done.

Kelly, you’ve been a true friend and I can’t thank you enough. Well done for nagging me to get to a signing – Dublin was surely the start of something! You are far too generous and kind to me, you’ve been an absolute blessing and you are…umm…usually right.

Thanks to all you bloggers who keep on letting the world know I exist. The online book world was a bewildering, bombarding, higgledy-piggledy place to me at first, and I’ve probably not communicated as I should have done. But now that I’ve finally started to put names to faces and figure out who you all are, I’m looking forward to truly knowing you.

Thanks to my parents for encouraging me to read when the other kids my age were content with chucking sand at each other. The same goes for everyone who has ever affirmed that I should write, from my first English teachers at school to my university lecturers. I have doubts about this business every single day, and you’ve all helped to silence them in your own way.

I must thank the dozens of magazine and newspaper editors who have published the writing I’ve done in other fields. You’ve paid me to write, and that’s sent an important message about what I should be doing in life. I should also thank the editors (many of them the same people!) who couldn’t answer a pitch email or take a phone call. Your silences are what led me to writing directly for my readers via self-publishing. I hope that it will prove to be the best move I have ever made.

Thanks to those who have beta-read my stories, and thanks also to Ida at Amygdala Design for some wonderful work on my covers. To my fellow authors who have shared your wisdom and experiences with me, thank you so much and let’s keep doing it!

I should also thank the man upstairs for creating woman. Without the fairer sex, my life and my writing would be stricken. It seems I can never grow tired of womankind, and I cherish each encounter I have with you. You spellbind me, and I’m so glad I can put that feeling down in words for a living each day. Good job, Mr God!

More of you will come along and shower me with undeserved support, I’m sure. It just keeps on happening. And every time it does, it’s a reminder that my writing makes a difference to people. Thanks in advance for those reminders. They make me carry on with this crazy, wonderful life.

  Breaking Free

James Grey has a knack of letting his readers throw off the shackles

of repression. Nowhere can you experience this better than in his first anthology, Breaking Free.

How about a story where a girl lives out her teenage fantasy after getting a special pass to the locker room of her favourite football team? What about sharing your boyfriend with another woman? And what would you do if you were queen, with every male in the land at your beckon call?

You can also enjoy Hot Wet Touches, in which Claudia and Jake make their first, steamy acquaintance in one of Germany’s nude spa facilities. This surprising and vivid stranger-sex story (with a twist) was Grey’s debut erotic work.

Grey explores both male and female points of view in this collection, taking the reader on a rampant erotic journey into both sides of the romantic coin. Breaking Free is not for those who shock, and should not be read within the slightest reach of polite company.

  Ravenous Desires

James Grey's second anthology takes his writing to a whole new level of quality, sensuality and authenticity. Ravenous Desires is primarily a journey into the male romantic mind: a surprising ride on which you can expect the unexpected. But you’ll also find Grey’s trademark female voices too. And don’t worry…the sex is still there in abundance!

The collection features three new stories, plus Hot Wet Touches II, which is also available as a stand-alone on Amazon. There’s a highly personal element to all of the stories in this collection, inspired by the author's life and love experience. Just where reality ends and imagination begins is something you’ll have to ask James!

Headline story The Raven is an original, emotional tale that toys with a new style and perhaps a new direction. One thing it won’t do is leave you cold.

  Hot Wet Touches Amsterdam

Fate works in mysterious ways. She could have gone to the spa on a different day. He could have relaxed in a different Jacuzzi. Their eyes might not have met when she stepped, naked and tentative, into the warm water.

But their eyes did meet. That winter evening in Amsterdam, fate did throw them together. They traded numbers. Things were all set to happen.

But now fate is trying to rip them apart. He thinks she's avoiding him. She thinks he must have met someone else. Will they find a way to pick up the thread and fulfil their white-hot destiny?

Hot Wet Touches Amsterdam is a stand-alone erotic novella for adults. It does not directly follow this author's Hot Wet Touches series, though these make good background reading.
