“Come see Auntie Kitty, my Lily pad.” Lily let out a squeal, immediately jumping from my arms to Kitty’s outstretched ones. Kitty had made the trip down to Florida, along with Tim and Susanne to catch one of Dylan’s home series. I figured they would be a little upset with me since I had kept Lily a secret and they were basically the only parents Dylan had ever had, but they were warm and welcoming, immediately falling into the role of doting grandparents.

“This is too cute, I can’t believe Dylan had these made up for you two, I swear that boy is always coming up with the sweetest ideas.” Kitty pointed to the block lettering on the back of Lily’s Rays jersey, that spelled out Miss Turner in pink and I had a matching one with mine reading Mrs. Turner.

I still remember the conversation we had about that right after he had proposed. “And I love you Paige Brinton. I love the way you make me feel every time I see you. I love the way you don’t put up with my shit and aren’t afraid to put me in my place. And I can’t wait till you’re Mrs. Paige Turner.”

I snorted out a laugh in between tears streaming down my face. “Mrs. Paige Turner? I never thought of how my name would sound with your last name. Maybe I’ll just keep my own.”

“Nu uh that is not going to happen. Everyone will know you’re mine. People will be jealous with a name like that, it’ll be a classic.” He ran a finger lightly up my arm, causing goose bumps to run over my whole body and I wiggled my hips over his that was answered with a groan. “Or they’ll just laugh every time they hear it.”

“Sparky, we need to end this conversation right now or I’m going to explode before I’m even inside you.” He arched his hips off the bed, almost sending me flying backwards if his fingers hadn’t been gripping my sides.

“Fine but this discussion isn’t over,” I answered back, leaning my head down to his, lightly running my tongue over his lips, tasting the bubble gum that I had to pick up packs of to chew on while we were away from each other. He let out a noise that I think was actually a growl and flipped me over onto my back.

“What is that goofy grin on your face all about, missy?” Kitty nudged me with her elbow, straightening the pink tutu that Dylan had picked out for Lily that morning, while she bounced on Kitty’s legs. “Oh, nothing.”

“Mmhmm, I know that look. Probably daydreaming about your hubby like usual, you two make me sick.”

“Oh, please Kitty. You and Grant are the same way when you’re around each other.” Grant hadn’t made the trip down and I could tell how much Kitty missed him, but she was still having fun being able to spoil Lily.

“Daddy.” Lily bounced up and down, trying to squirm off Kitty’s lap, pointing to the field with her chubby toddler finger where Dylan was walking towards us.

Every time I saw him, I swear I still got that flutter in my stomach and my heart sped up. And the way his brown eyes lit up every time he saw me, I think he felt the same way too. “There are my favorite girls.” He leaned across the railing to pick up Lily from Kitty’s arms and the growing crowd let out a collective ‘aww.’

Dylan was getting to be a pretty popular player and it was hard getting used to his life being semi in the lime light. There was now even a ‘Dylan’s Diamond Divas’ fan club and those girls could get vicious. I tried not to let it bother me but it was hard to see those girls with their signs, clearly there just to check out my husband and not the actual game. But I trusted him and he never gave me a reason not to.

He wrapped an arm around my waist pulling my upper body across the railing and devoured my lips with his, I swear I wanted to jump his bones right there. “Alright you two get a freakin’ room.” Kitty rolled her green eyes but I could still see a hint of a smile.

“I love you Sparky, forever and always,” he whispered against my lips, holding our daughter in between us. “I love you too, Rookie, now more than ever.”

Maybe the itch I had to go away to college was meant to lead me to Dylan. Some may call it fate that brought us together, some may just call it pure luck. It had been a bumpy road, but we had found our way back to each other. Whatever is was I would be thankful for it bringing Dylan into my life, which in turn brought Lily, a piece of each of us that truly was a miracle.
