"I can't get involved with you, Mr. Thomas. I don't want anything bad to happen to you."
"What are you talking about, Janet? Why would anything bad happen to me?"
"Because I'm a cursed woman. Any man who gets involved with me ends up dead one way or another."

Janet sobbed as she told me about how both of her exes got into freak accidents and died just when things were starting to get serious between them. The first time it happened, she didn't think it was in any way her fault. However, after the second guy in her life passed away, she became certain that she was bad luck to any man who dated her.
It pained me to see her blame herself like this, and I instinctively got closer and wrapped my arms around her. To my surprise, she actually allowed me to try to comfort her while she continued to sob while talking about her painful past.
I listened intently while she talked. Then once she had finished telling her story, I told her how I honestly felt about it all.
"Janet, I don't believe for even a single second that you're a cursed woman. Yes, what happened to your exes was tragic and unexpected, but it had nothing to do with you. You did not cause their freak accidents to happen. It was just unfortunate that you had to experience that type of painful loss twice in your life. But no, Janet, I don't believe being with you will cause me to lose my life. If anything, you'll just make me the happiest man alive. Also, ever since I've started working with you, I've become even richer than before. Therefore, I believe that you are in fact my good luck charm. So please, Janet, give me the chance to properly date you. Don't be afraid anymore. Let me show you that it's okay to fall in love again."
"But what if something does happen to you? I can never live with myself after that."
"Janet, you're worrying too much. Nothing's going to happen to me. But even if something does happen, it won't be your fault. And just for the record, since it's my life we're talking about here, I'm willing to put my life at risk in order to have the chance to be with you. So please give me that chance, okay?"

I didn't even get the chance to say no like I was about to say for his own good. Mr. Thomas had silenced me by pressing his sexy lips against mine. By the time he was done kissing me, I could barely string a sentence together, let alone try to send him on his way.
"You don't have to say anything, Janet. The way you kissed me back just now already said it all. You want this just as much as I do," said Mr. Thomas.
"I do want you, but I'm so scared of losing you," I found myself admitting.
"I'm scared of losing you, too. That's why I can't just let you walk away. Life doesn't promise us anything, Janet. There's no guarantee that any of us will still be alive tomorrow. All we really have is this moment now. So don't waste any more time by pushing me away. Let me in your life, and I promise I'll do everything within my power to make you happy from here on out."
His words melted everything that had been frozen inside of me. I wanted to be with Mr. Thomas, and after hearing everything he had said earlier, I had no further reasons to try to push him away.
So I said, "You've convinced me, Mr. Thomas. I'm willing to give this relationship thing another try."
"Glad to hear it. Now stop calling me Mr. Thomas outside of the workplace. I'm Brian, and I'm going to do my best to give you the happily ever after ending you so deserve."
