When He's Dirty (Walker Security: Adrian’s Trilogy Book 1) Page 18

by Lisa Renee Jones

It’s exactly what I need to hear and there’s an instant spike between us. The burn is provocative, almost dark and volatile, pulsing between us, a living thing, a band wrapping us together. We explode into passion, our clothes no longer on our bodies, our passion no longer contained. I roll her to her back, kissing her, driving into her, until she trembles in my arms, her sex clenching around me. She drags me with her, my body quaking, the world fading.

I end up on my back with her snuggled to my side, the sweet scent of floral perfume and warrior princess teasing my nostrils. And she is a warrior. She proved that today. And I dare to think that maybe, just maybe, we can battle the devil and our own demons, and together, we’ll win.

  Chapter Thirty-Seven

  ADRIAN

Something wakes me up from where we sleep on the couch.

I lay there, Pri naked and still snuggled into my side, the dim light of the lamp casting shadows on the ceiling, unease clawing at me. I reach above my head and turn out the light. Seconds turn into a full minute and there’s a flicker of light outside the window, somewhere in the not too far distance. Holy fuck. We should be safe here. I wasn’t followed. I know I wasn’t followed.

Focused on action now, I grab my phone and text “911” to Lucifer, and shift Pri, leaning in to whisper. “We have trouble. Get dressed quietly.”

She is up instantly, and even in the darkness, I can see the fear etched on her pretty face, but I can’t comfort her now. I dress quickly, my gun at the back of my pants, a blade in my each of my boots. Another in my hand.

Footsteps stomp up the stairs. “Adrian, it’s Pitt.”

I flip on the light, and Pri whispers. “How can he be here? How does he know you’re here and oh God. Is your team—”

“No,” I say, grabbing my phone and dialing Lucifer.

He answers immediately with, “Savage is on his way,” and I feel relief about the backup and the team’s safety. “We’re silent here,” he adds. “What’s happening?” I glance at Pri and say, “They’re fine,” before turning my attention back to the call. “Agent Pitt is here. Find out why.”

“I thought you said no one knows that place?” he asks.

Another knock at the door. “Adrian! Are you there, man?”

I focus on answering Lucifer. “They don’t. This is nothing good. I’m taking us underground. You know what to do.”

“Copy that,” he says, and I hang up, sliding my phone into my pocket. “Where’s your gun?”

“Purse,” she says, “by the door.”

“I’ll grab it for you and then I need you to go to the hallway behind the living room. I don’t want you near a window. Don’t leave the house without me. There are explosives back there.”

“Okay,” she says. “My God. Okay.”

I’m already walking, snatching her purse and handing it to her. “Go,” I mouth, flipping on the porch light and glancing out the window. Pitt is alone, at least for now.

My knife flips to my palm, out of sight, and I unbolt the door and open it. He has on a rain jacket, his hands free and visible. “What the fuck are you doing here?”

“I got a message to meet you here. Could you have picked a crappier night, my man? But damn, you’re a sight for sore eyes.”

  “I didn’t leave you a message.”

His eyes narrow. “Fuck. You didn’t, did you?”

“No. I didn’t. So what the hell is going on?”

“Can I get off this porch where I’m a target?”

I back up and let him enter for no reason other than I want the door shut again. He doesn’t have a chance one-on-one with me. He steps forward and then jerks abruptly, his eyes going wild, a choking sound gurgling from him. His body falls forward, and Deleon is standing there. “Hello, friend,” he greets.

  The Brilliance trilogy

It all started with a note, just a simple note hand written by a woman I didn't know, never even met. But in that note is perhaps every answer to every question I've ever had in my life. And because of that note, I look for her, but find him. I'm drawn to his passion, his talent, a darkness in him that somehow becomes my light, my life. Kace August is rich, powerful, a rock star of violins, a man who is all tattoos, leather, good looks and talent. He has a wickedly sweet ability to play the violin, seducing audiences worldwide. Now, he’s seducing me. I know he has secrets. I don't care. Because you see, I have secrets, too.

I’m not Aria Alard, as he believes. I’m Aria Stradivari, daughter to Alessandro Stradivari, a musician born from the same blood as the man who created the famous Stradivarius violin. I am as rare as the mere 650 instruments my ancestors created. Instruments worth millions. 650 masterpieces, the brilliance unmatched. 650 reasons to kill. 650 reasons to hide. One reason not to: him.

  Excerpt from

  the Savage series

  He’s here.

Rick is standing right in front of me, bigger than life, and so damn him, in that him kind of way that I couldn’t explain if I tried. He steps closer and I drop my bag on the counter. He will hurt me again, I remind myself, but like that first night, I don’t seem to care.

I step toward him, but he’s already there, already here, right here with me. I can’t even believe it’s true. He folds me close, his big, hard body absorbing mine. His fingers tangle in my hair, his lips slanting over my lips. And then he’s kissing me, kissing me with the intensity of a man who can’t breathe without me. And I can’t breathe without him. I haven’t drawn a real breath since he sent me that letter.

My arms slide under his tuxedo jacket, wrapping his body, muscles flexing under my touch. The heat of his body burning into mine, sunshine warming the ice in my heart he created when he left. And that’s what scares me. Just this quickly, I’m consumed by him, the princess and the warrior, as he used to call us. My man. My hero. And those are dangerous things for me to feel, so very dangerous. Because they’re not real. He showed me that they aren’t real.

“This means nothing,” I say, tearing my mouth from his, my hand planting on the hard wall of his chest. “This is sex. Just sex. This changes nothing.”

“Baby, we were never just sex.”

“We are not the us of the past,” I say, grabbing his lapel. “I just need—you owe me this. You owe me a proper—”

“Everything,” he says. “In ways you don’t understand, but, baby, you will. I promise you, you will.”

I don’t try to understand that statement and I really don’t get the chance. His mouth is back on my mouth.

The very idea of forever with this man is one part perfect, another part absolute pain. Because there is no forever with this man. But he doesn’t give me time to object to a fantasy I’ll never own, that I’m not sure I want to try and own again. I don’t
need forever. I need right now. I need him. I sink back into the kiss and he’s ravenous. Claiming me. Taking me. Kissing the hell out of me and God, I love it. God, I need it. I need him.
