“Just come on,” I said, not wanting to argue with Kasha about staying here.

We both rushed to the elevator and then to my Range. All Red told me over the phone was that it had to do with Emo. That’s all I needed to hear.

“I didn’t know you had another brother,” Kasha said.

“Well, you don’t come around much these days.”

“I’ll just keep my mouth closed,” she said as she pressed her lips together and looked out of the window.

“I didn’t mean for it to come out that way. It’s the truth, though.”

“I know. And I’m sorry.” She grabbed my free hand.

  “It’s okay.”

“So when are we going to talk about your child?” she asked.

“I have a child on the way, and that’s all you need to know. What do you mean?”

“I’m really trying, Gee. Meaning, I plan to work this thing out with you.”

“I don’t need validation from you to be there for my baby,” I said as I slowed down to let a pedestrian cross the street. Why was a kid out this late anyway? And alone?

“I know you don’t. What I’m saying is, I want to be a part of the child’s life too.”

  “You do?” I asked.

“Yes, I do. The baby is already in progress, so the only thing left to do is create a comfortable environment for it. And I’m willing to do that.”

“I’ll have to talk to Diamond,” I said.

“Why? Aren’t you the child’s father? So why do you need her approval?” She immediately got an attitude.

“Because, Kasha, I like to keep the drama down, and I will not argue about this tonight. Or ever. Do you understand me?” I asked.

  “Whatever.”

“No, do you understand me? I don’t want to have this conversation ever again. You haven’t even regained the right to ask me shit like this. We’ll cross the bridge, when we get to it. And I will let you know.”

“I understand,” she said as she put her seat back and closed her eyes.

After driving for a while to the Bronx, we finally made it. I let Kasha out at the front while I found a parking space. As I parked, I saw Diamond getting out too. Her and some guy parked right behind me. Me and her locked eyes as I stood outside my door. She started to walk really fast to the entrance with Rena on her hip. I looked at the guy in the car before he drove off really fast like he had somewhere to go.

“You lied to me!” Some random lady yelled to a man that stood in front of the entrance. Then she started hitting some man who looked like he was high off of some kind of drug. He wasn’t even paying attention.

“Finally, you’re here. Come on,” Red said as she grabbed my hand and led me to the back.

I looked around to see where Kasha was. “Where is Kasha?”

“She’s already back here. Come on.”

We walked through some white double doors and continued to the back. Then we went up an elevator to the eighth floor.

“What’s going on?” I asked as we stepped off the elevator.

“Took you long enough,” Yazz said as we walked into the upper lobby.

“What happened?” I asked him. Kasha came to stand beside me. I looked over and saw Diamond sitting in a corner by herself.

“Why is she here?” Yazz asked me.

Red turned away to go and sit by Diamond.

“Kasha, go sit down,” I said, pointing to a seat that was far away from Diamond.

“I’m not here for you to ask me about Kasha. I’m here to know about Emo. So, what’s up?”

“He’s in a coma from losing so much blood. But he’s expected to pull through.”

  “What happened to him?”

“He was shot and dumped on the road near Orchard Beach Park, and I was there.”

“What the hell were you doing there at this time of the night?” I asked.

“Step over here so we can talk in private,” he said as we stepped down the hall.

  “What’s up?”

“Frizzy was found dead, so I dumped her body.”

I had to act surprised like I didn’t know. “What? Are you serious?”

  “Yes.”

“Why did you dump the body?” I asked.

“Because it was drugs everywhere, and we don’t need that heat right now,” he said, looking over his shoulder.

  “That’s crazy.”

  “I think Kasha did it.”

  “What? Why?” I asked.

“I honestly think she’s trying to get back at me for that abortion,” he said with a look on his face that I couldn’t put my finger on. It looked like he wanted to say more, but didn’t.

“Trust me, Kasha hasn’t had the time to do it,” I said in her defense.

I had watched Frizzy kill herself, so I was not about to sit there and let Kasha take the fall.

“You don’t know this bitch like you think you do,” he said with a look of pure evil.

“Clearly. Guess that goes for the both of you, huh?” I asked.

“Whatever. Emo has one more surgery to get through. Are you staying?”

“Of course I am,” I said as stretched my arm and walked back into the waiting room.

  Chapter Forty

  Diamond

“Can you believe him?” I whispered to Red as Kasha and I made eye contact.

  “Just let it fly.”

“But she keeps fucking staring at me, and I ain’t for that shit today. She’s past due for an ass whipping.”

“I can definitely feel you on that. But not today.”

“Well she needs to quit looking at me, and that’s all I’ma say,” I said as I looked up and saw Gee walk back inside. Yazz came over and cuddled under Red and Gee came and stood over me.

“We need to talk,” he said.

“I’m okay. Go talk to her.” I pointed at Kasha, who was looking at me like she wanted to finish the job and kill me. Stupid bitch.

  “Diamond… please.”

“Fine,” I said as I handed Rena to Red and stepped down the hall with Gee.

“What are we doing?” he asked when we got down the hall.

“I came because Red called me. I don’t know what you’re doing,” I said as I leaned against the wall and rolled my eyes. All while avoiding eye contact.

“So what? Are we really about to do this?”

  “Do what?” I asked.

“This. You not talking to me and running around with this other nigga. Is this really what’s about to happen?”

  “You did this.”

“How, Diamond? I told you that I wanted to work on us.”

“On your terms right? What do you want from me, Gee? You tell me one thing, and then I look up and you’re with Kasha.”

“Why haven’t you been taking my calls?” he asked as he leaned in closer and placed one hand on the wall. His scent invaded my nostrils.

  “I needed space.”

“Space from what? What have I done that was so bad?” he asked.

“Let’s see…you fucked me and played with my feelings. And fuck all that, why is Kasha here?” I asked.

“She wouldn’t stay at my place. Why didn’t you answer the door when I came by?”

  “I wasn’t there,” I lied.

He looked me up and down like I was lying. “Why didn’t you answer the door? That guy was there?”

“What are you talking about?” I asked. He looked into my eyes, sucking my soul right through my body with no words. Just actions.

  “I needed you.”

“I’m here now,” I said as I looked into his eyes and saw that he really did care. I could feel his hurt running through my veins.

“Gee!” Kasha yelled from down the hall.

I expected him to move away from me but he didn’t.

He turned his head toward her. “I’ll be right there.”

“I need to talk to you,” she said as she walked down the hall to us.

“And I’m talking right now,” he said.

She mugged me like I was the one who just dissed her. “Remember what we talked about,” she said as she walked away, shaking her head.

“You better get back to her,” I said as I tried to walk away, but he pulled me into the restroom that was right behind us.

He locked the door. “I really want you, Diamond. I can’t stop thinking about you,” he said as he picked me up and sat me on the sink.

  “I can’t tell.”

He glared at me before kissing me like he would never taste my lips again. “What do I have to do? I’ve tried everything.”

“You need to get rid of her,” I said referring to Kasha.

“And then we’re going to fight for us?” he asked.

  “Yes.”

“You promise?” he asked as he kissed me again. And again. And again. And before I knew it, my clothes were off as he had me pinned against the wall, fucking my brains out.

“I promise,” I moaned as he cuffed my ass to keep me from falling. I couldn’t believe we were fucking in this hospital. I wondered if anyone heard us.

“Why are you acting like you don’t want to be with me?” he asked as he went deep inside of me.

“I wanna be with you,” I moaned. I don’t know why I was acting stupid. Or was it his dick talking to me?

“I love you, Diamond,” he whispered into my ear as he squeezed me tighter and went in and out of me.

“You what?” I asked. I couldn’t have heard him right.

“I love you,” he whispered into my ear again.

“How much?” I asked, just wanting to hear him say it. “Ahhh,” I cried out as he slowed the pace but strengthened the stroke.

“So much, baby. I love you so much.”

“Ahhh, fuck, I love you too, Gee,” I moaned as I felt myself about to cum.

I could tell he was about to cum also by the way his face changed. We came at the same time. He was breathing hard in my ear, trying to catch his breath. Then he put me back on the sink, laid his head on my breast, and held me tight.

  “Come home,” he said.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“I don’t want to sleep another night without you,” he said as he kissed me.

“You mean it? Or you just talking?” I asked as I got down and put my clothes back on.

“I mean it. Just give me the word and it’s all about you, Rena, our baby and me. And that’s it.”

“How do I know that?” I asked as I stood up and pulled my shirt over my head.

He grabbed my face gently. “Try me. Give me the word.”

“I just gave it to you,” I said.

“I’m about to leave. But I will be back,” he said as he put his hand on the nob.

  “Where are you going?”

“To take Kasha to get her things from my place and to the airport.”

  “Really?”

  “I told you I wasn’t playing.”

  “We shall see.”

“We have a lot to talk about,” he said as he opened the door.

Kasha, Red and Yazz were standing right there. Red and Yazz were laughing. Kasha was looking like she was about to shoot up the entire hospital. Gee turned to me and laughed.

“Gee, what the fuck?” Kasha asked.

“Come on, we need to talk,” he said as he grabbed her arm and led her down the hall.

“Good shit,” Red said as we laughed and walked back down the hall.

  Chapter Forty-One

  Red

  The next morning…

I woke up to my whole body aching because I had slept in the lobby with Yazz, Diamond, Rena and Gee. I looked around and saw that I was the only one up. Everyone else was still sleep. We still had no new information on Emo since what the doctors told us last night.

“I need to go home and shower.” Diamond yawned as she leaned up from the couch.

Gee and Yazz were asleep in the chairs, and let us have the couch.

  “Me too.”

“Did anything change with Emo? I went to sleep,” she said.

  “Obviously,” I laughed.

  “Whatever.”

“Damn, I hope he makes it. Emo is a cool guy. I feel like it was fucked up what happened,” I said as I stretched and sat up.

“Hell yeah. That was kinda cold how they did it.”

“You didn’t even see it close up. Them niggas dumped him like he was nothing.”

“That’s what I meant to ask you. What the hell was you and Yazz doing in Bronx that late?”

“It was so much going on that I forgot to tell you. Yazz ex, Frizzy, was found dead in his tub.”

  “Whaaaat?” she whispered, astonished.

“Yep. With cocaine all in the tub. She took a drug bath, bitch. Or someone forced her into it and killed her.”

“So what happened in the Bronx?”

“We dumped her body. We had to.”

“I feel you. Man, that’s fuckin’ crazy. Yazz cool?” she asked.

I looked over at him as he slept. “Not at all,” I said as I shook my head.

“So what’s up? I need to know the full deal on Kasha so I won’t be in the dark.”

“I can’t tell you shit. You might tell Gee.”

“On Rena, I ain’t gonna tell him.”

“Okay, so remember when she stole that money from us when we first met?”

“Yeah,” she responded with her eyes locked on me. Nosey ass.

  “Well, that wasn’t her.”

“Wait. What, bitch?” she asked, getting closer to me.

  “It was her sister.”

“Wait… back all the way the fuck up,” she said.

“Let me break it down…” I went into full detail about everything.

  “Are you serious?” Diamond asked.

“Yes. And when she had me in that motel, she told me a bunch of shit that I still ain’t even told Yazz yet.”

  “Like what?”

“Well, she went through Gee’s phone and saw pictures of her sister.”

  “And?” Diamond pushed the issue.

“She thinks her sister was partially obsessed with her because she said Kafue was looking different. Almost like she got plastic surgery.”

  “Who is Kafue?” she asked.

  “Kasha’s sister.”

“Damn, why you ain’t told Yazz?”

“It’s just weird. I don’t know. That whole situation was dubbed out.”

Kasha was in shock that no one had noticed the difference between her and Kafue until she saw Gee’s phone and noticed the facial structure changes that Kafue had made. She felt sorry for her sister, but the fact that Kafue had fucked Gee replaced that pity with anger. The bitch was scorned and dangerous.

“Excuse me,” the doctor said as he stood over me.

“Yes, is he okay?” I whispered, not wanting to wake anyone up.

“Yes, he pulled through. But I have some bad news.”

  Chapter Forty-Two

  Yazz

“So how long will he be in a coma?” I asked Red. I had just woken up and Red had good and bad news for me.

“They don’t know. They say it’s just a waiting game now.”

“So whenever his body heals?” I asked.

  “Basically.”

“You ready to go shower?” I asked as I looked over at Diamond, Rena and Gee about to leave.

“Yeah, come on,” she said as I stood up.

“Wait up,” I said to Gee, motioning for him to hold the elevator open.

“Thank you,” Red said as she stepped in.

When the elevator landed us on the first floor, we all said our goodbyes, as if we weren’t going to the same place. I parked right by Gee, apparently, so we all were walking to the same place. Or at least I thought I did.

“What the fuck?” I asked as I looked behind me to make sure I wasn’t just seeing shit.

“Where is your car?” Red asked me as I stood there looking dumbfounded.

“Damn, they towed your shit?” G
ee asked as he laughed and opened the door for Diamond to get inside.

  “Fuck you.”

“Baby,” Red said as she walked in front of me.

  “Man, fuck!” I yelled.

“Is it gone?” Gee asked as he put Rena into the back seat.

“Take me to the crib,” I said with an attitude as I squeezed my tall ass in the back seat after Red.

“Baby, where’s Kasha?” Diamond asked Gee, and I was locked in. Hell, I wanted to know too.

“I told you. I sent her back to Paris.”

“Are you sure the bitch went back?” I asked him, cutting in.

“Yeah, I took her to the airport. She was mad, but she went.”

  “I don’t trust that hoe,” I said.

“Or maybe it was Ms. Parish,” Red joked.

  “Shut up.”

“Wait, ain’t that your car right there?” Diamond said as we stopped at a red light.

I looked over at the car that looked just like men, then I turned my attention to the back seat to see if a pair of shoes were still there.

“Hell yeah that’s my damn car! Open the door!” I yelled before getting out at the red light.

“Oh shit,” the young guy said as he saw me walking up.

He tried to rush and let the window up, but I reached inside and opened the door. Then I proceeded to whip his ass.

“Chill, man!” The young kid yelled as each punch connected to his face.

“Baby, that’s enough!” Red yelled as she yanked on my shirt.

“Who this young dude?” Gee asked as he got inside my car and pulled the other nigga out.

Cars were blowing, but we didn’t give a fuck.

“Yo, man! Chill!” the dude that Gee had yelled.

“Why are you fucking stealing from a hospital?” Gee asked as he yanked the young man by his collar.

“Dude, someone told us that this was their car and to come and get it for them. Just chill.”

“What? This my shit!” I yelled before punching him in the face again.

“Listen to what he has to say, Yazz!” Red yelled as she yanked me harder this time.

“Go ahead and talk,” Diamond said to him as she helped Red pull me off of him.

“Dude, I just found out that my mom has cancer. I just left the hospital.”
