Beer bottle half way to his lips, Giles paused, mouth agape, astounded.

Author Notes - Ell Leigh Clarke

  November 6th, 2017

As always I’d love to thank Yoda for the opportunity to write in the Kurtherian Universe.

The pages you have just read are a spin off from the original Molly series. It is the story of what Giles does to help Molly figure out the Ascension Myth, and something I wanted to write because I thought it would be cool as shit. Giles is a favourite character of mine, even though he’s complex.

  Maybe because he’s so complex.

When I talked to MA about it he thought the concept was great and more than happy for me to go off on my own and figure it all out. Which was awesome. But about 40k words in I was so exhausted I just needed my friend to have a read so I knew someone was paying attention. MA graciously obliged and after his notes and a conversation I managed to finish the manuscript with very little effort.

To say that I don’t like writing in isolation is an understatement. MA – thank you for caring enough to read it through and be involved even though that wasn’t the plan with my little hair brained spin off. [I think you mean hair-brained… not “little hair” ;-) and more than happy to!]

I’d also like to thank Steve Campbell and the JIT readers. I met Steve for the first time a few days ago. He told me that I scrubbed up surprisingly well. The next day he told me that he didn’t like me very much when we first started working together. [From Steve - I believe I may have said, “I wasn’t sure about you,” when we first started working together. The words possibly high maintenance may have been used as well.]

The consolation to this little tid bit of information was that he was telling me that he does like me now we’ve met in person!

  Small mercies, eh?

Anyway, thank you Steve for turning the manuscripts around and working with the JITers. I appreciate your efforts, and professionalism, especially since you didn’t even like me up to this point. [From Mike - Huh, he never told me he didn’t like you.] I believe that you’re currently trying to get this all set up to push the button on it between flights heading home after the long weekend at the Vegas conference. You must be exhausted. So I extra appreciate you.

  Thanks also the JIT team.

Your enthusiasm and input is always such a blessing. It was also so great to meet a number of you at the conference: Jim, Sherry, Oggie, and Dan. Apologies if I’ve missed anyone who was there and I didn’t clock you as a JITer! Thank you. You guys are awesome and I really hope as the Ellie-verse expands you’ll want to come along for the ride.

I’d also like to say a massive thank you to Joe Brewer, our editor, who took time to read a bunch of Molly books in order to learn the universe and work on this manuscript. Joe, you’ve done an awesome job and your efficiency at turning this around is awesome. You’re the best. Thank you!

And last and by no means least, thank you to you, the reader, for taking a chance on Giles and reading through to these notes. I hope you’ve grown to enjoy Giles and his antics, as much as I have enjoyed writing them. And sure, I know that he will never replace Molly in your heart, but I think he has an important story to tell in The Ascension Myth, and offers a complimentary vibe – and er, shall we say tactical approach - to the Molly badassery.

I hope you’ll continue the adventure with us! We’ve got one hell of an arc planned.

  MA and Jousting

So for those who have found Confessions of a Rogue without having read Molly, let me fill you in on what these Author Notes are at the end of a book.

They’re basically where MA (Michael Anderle – my co-author) and I go into a rampant joust and extreme banter.

There’s been a progression, so if you like these notes you may want to go back and check the ones in the Molly series: The Ascension Myth starting from Book 1. (We also have a story in the main part of the book if you’re into sci fi, too!)

Some people find our silly-isms amusing. I hope you find the same.

Since meeting other authors in the ‘verse though, I’ve come to realise that this is kinda unique. MA is nice to his other collaborators.

He doesn’t take the piss out of the way they talk. [Mike - This is English 1.0 way to say I don’t give them a hard time. I would like for the record to show I do talk shit back to some of the collaborators and NONE of them were editing my OWN author notes. You did this to yourself.]

  Or their quirks.

Nor does he tease them relentlessly.

[Mike – I tease Martha relentlessly too (that Willen)… and SM Boyce for her cover charges and Justin about covers. However, they aren’t in Author Notes because they are usually in private messages or in a group chat area Ell doesn’t read, so she is unaware.]

But on the other hand, they don’t get to see his notes (for adding in their mischievous comments!) either.

So I guess that evens things out
