Inter-Galactic Bounty Hunters Page 14

“All you had to do was stay where my hired man, Crawley, could take care of you. You would have been dead. The company would have recovered a small portion of the money that I was leaving as a trail to and from you to it. Then I would have been home free. But no, you got the bounty hunters involved and almost ruined everything. However, it can still work out. You will die and I will go on to the private island I will buy on Bazin. Have you seen the island girls on Bazin? They go topless all the time and are always willing to suck a guy’s cock. They’re not uptight or a cold fish in bed. I know because all those business trips I took, I was experiencing Bazin lifestyle and setting up the bank accounts.” He moved closer and leaned against the side of the bed, smiling smugly.

“I hope the poison I put in your IV bag makes you suffer a really long time. Any last words, love?” he asked.

She nodded her head. “Yes,” she barely whispered as she motioned for him to come closer. “You are under arrest asshole,” her voice was different.

Lial looked into a pair of dark brown eyes, not the green ones of Daniela. “Who?” He moved back and glanced in a panic as the door swung open. Two large men were rushing inside, the bounty hunters. Fuck!

Lial, in a desperate move, dove through the window. The woman on the bed posing as Daniela tried to grab for him but he ended up dragging her halfway out with him. The two large men had to rescue the woman before they went after him. Thank God he had only been on the second floor. He could have died jumping out. As it was, he only twisted his ankle as he landed awkwardly.

“Are you okay, Jade?” Vic asked as he and Jagger pulled her back through the window.

“Yeah, just pissed I had to let him go.” She ripped at the bandages to remove them from her head. She was the only female bounty hunter that had similar hair color to Daniela. She had to keep her eyes squinted so the guy wouldn’t notice her eyes were brown.

Jagger jumped out of the window and went in pursuit. Vic yelled at him. “Wait, Jagger! Damn it!” Vic turned on his earpiece. “Abe, Drake, do you have Wellings?”

“He hasn’t come back to his motor pod yet,” Abe said. He and Drake were waiting for him though.

“Isaac?” Vic asked as he too went out the window.

“He’s heading the opposite direction. There’s a motor pod station close in the vicinity. He’s probably headed there. If he gets on one of the motor pods, he could get away.” Isaac was on the roof of the hospital where he set up a satellite tracking system.

“Did you get his confession?” Vic was trying to run as he talked in his earpiece.

“Yeah, I got it all. The video camera we set up in the room got everything and his confession was loud and clear,” Isaac told him.

Vic felt a brief relief to hear that. At least that was something. They couldn't let this guy get away though. He was as dirty as they come. Where the hell was his cousin?

  *****

Jagger could see Lial. He had almost caught up to the small human. Jagger was fuming inside. He and Vic had stood outside the hospital room listening to Wellings go on and on about how he stole the money. He had to wait for Wellings to confess to his attempts on Daniela’s life. He was ready to rip the door off the hospital room. Vic had to hold him back. There wasn’t anyone to hold him back now.

Wellings had started out running through the wooded area next to the hospital. He came out of the clearing and found himself directly in the middle of a busy street with motor pods zipping past in both directions.

Jagger had to use caution going after him. He didn’t want to cause an accident. If he was closer he could shoot him with his Taser gun. Damn he wished Drake was close by. He was their sharpshooter. Vic’s voice came over the line.

  “Jagger, wait for backup!”

Shit! Wellings was heading right for a motor pod station. “I don’t have time to wait! I have to take him down now!”

Jagger sprinted toward Wellings. He reached out a hand and grabbed hold of the back of Welling’s jacket. He pulled him up short. Wellings tried to yank free but couldn’t.

“Got you now you bastard!” Jagger yelled at him as he dragged him down to the ground. He was so intent on taking Wellings down he didn’t notice the syringe in his hands until it was too late.

Lial still had the syringe with the poison in his hand. It had a little left. He stuck it into the bounty hunter’s shoulder. Unfortunately the bounty hunter collapsed on top of him and he couldn’t get him off before the other bounty hunters showed up.

“No!” Vic yelled out as he watched the whole thing go down. But it wasn’t until he got to Jagger’s side that he realized there was a needle stuck in his shoulder. Jagger wasn’t moving. He turned to Jade’s twin brother, Blade. “Call for an ambulance! He’s been poisoned. Elsa and Harley, get hold of this scum and call the authority.”

Jagger had a hard time moving his limbs. His breathing was labored too. What the hell was wrong with him. “Did we get him?” He didn’t hear the answer before he passed out.

  Chapter Twenty

“What’s happening?” Daniela asked the two female bounty hunters that remained behind to guard her. What were their names? Jade was the one that looked similar to her and the blonde bombshell was Shy. There was also a male bounty hunter standing guard outside her hospital room along with two guards from the authority.

“Jagger caught the perp but…he’s been hurt. They’re bringing him in for treatment,” Jade told her.

“How bad is he?” Daniela managed to get to her feet. She was still bruised but she was much better than when she first arrived at the hospital.

Jade looked at Shy trying to decide how much to tell the woman. Shy gave her a nod so she told Daniela everything she knew. “The perp still had the syringe with the poison in it that he tried to use on you. It hit Jagger’s system pretty hard.”

“What kind of poison is it?” Daniela went to put on her clothes and realized all she had was the prison clothes. She didn’t want to put those back on. She sat back down on the bed in her hospital gown.

“They don’t know yet. I sent the IV bag down to the lab to be tested. Hopefully they’ll have an answer by the time the ambulance gets here with Jagger,” Jade told her.

The next ten minutes dragged out. As soon as Jade told her the ambulance had arrived she wanted to go to Jagger. The authority guard was not going to let that happen. Jade sent Shy to go find out what was going on because Vic and the rest of the bounty hunters’ earpieces had cut out.

Vic finally came in with Shy following behind him. “He’s going to have to have the poison pumped out of his system. But he’s going to be okay. We got him here in time. If he had been full human, he wouldn’t have made it.”

“Thank God. I want to see him.” Daniela stood again.

Vic shook his head. “He’s not going to be available for visitation for at least twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Depending on how quickly he can recover.”

“I’m not a visitor, I’m his…” Daniela didn’t know what she was. They declared their love for one another but did that mean they were girlfriend or boyfriend? She didn’t know.

Another bounty hunter, the one who had been outside her room, came inside. He was tall, a little less muscular with pale skin and blonde hair cut short. What made him stand out the most was that he was wearing a business suit. “We have a problem.”

Vic turned to the other man. “What is it, Kalen?”

“The authority guards have been instructed to bring Miss Martin back to lockup,” Kalen told them.

“But she’s innocent. We have Welling’s confession recorded,” Jade said with frustration. She felt sick listening to the perp rant. She had to sit there and listen when all she wanted to do was pull out her gun and shoot him. Some people just needed to be killed.

“Damn it!” Vic ran a hand through his hair. Jagger was going to go ballistic over this. He turned to Daniela. “I’m sorry, but they’ll have to take you back until Lauren presents the evidence to the judge p
roving your innocence. It could take a few days.”

“But…what if the inmate Lial hired attacks again?” Daniela shivered at the thought of having to go back behind bars.

“That inmate is going to be in solitaire for a very long time. You’ll be safe but let me see if I can pull some strings.” Vic walked out, pulling his cell phone starting to make calls.

  *****

Isaac came in followed by Abe, Elsa, and Drake. “Are you doing okay?” Isaac asked seeing how pale she looked.

“No, she’s not okay. Jagger is poisoned and she has to go back to lockup. This is bullshit!” Elsa stormed out of the room.

Daniela actually felt better having Elsa scream out the frustration she had been feeling. Isaac patted her shoulder. “It will be okay.” God she hoped so.

  *****

Five days later, Daniela waited while the authority gave her back her personal belongings. She hated that it had taken so long, but she was comforted by the fact that somehow Vic convinced someone with the authority to allow Elsa, Jade, and Shy to assist in guarding her in isolation. It kept her away from the public inmates in case Lial had managed to hire someone else.

She had only spoken to her lawyer Lauren Perfect bitch a few times. The evidence that Isaac collected along with the link to the Bazin bank account that Lial had set up was plenty to clear her name and for the authority to fully charge Lial. The final nail in the coffin to the case against Lial was Crawley’s testimony. She was surprised to hear how easily he confessed to being hired to track her down and to kill her. She knew Jagger and Victor must have had a hand in convincing Crawley to confess all. Lauren said Crawley would be charged with attempted kidnapping and attempted murder. He would be serving a long, long term in lockup. It was a relief. But now all she wanted to do was get out and make sure Jagger really was okay.

Jagger had called to speak to her for a short time two days after he had been poisoned. His body wasn't one hundred percent yet and the doctors still had him under observation. Daniela planned to get out and get a motor pod to take her straight to the hospital. God she had missed him.

“Martin, you are free to go,” the authority guards told her.

She felt strange walking out of there. The sun was just setting and her legs for some reason felt like she had been on a boat for a while and was just now setting foot on shore, kind of wobbly and new.

Daniela had gotten past the gates and froze in place. Standing not more than fifteen feet from her was the most beautiful sight she had ever seen. “Jagger.” She dropped everything and ran, then launched herself into his arms.

Jagger caught her easily and pulled her close against him. She felt so damn good. He felt like a piece of himself had been missing this whole time. “Baby, I have missed you.”

“I missed you too, Jagger.” She leaned back enough so she could check him over. “Are you okay?”

“I am fine. Are you doing okay? Did anyone hurt you?” He wanted to look her all over to make sure she was unhurt, but when he tried to do it his cock got other ideas.

“I’m fine. Just missed you so much.” She blushed when she felt his arousal pressing against her. She looked up into his beautiful gold eyes. She wanted him like no other.

“Can we go home now?” She wasn’t sure where home would be for them but anywhere that Jagger went was her home.

“Yes, baby. I plan to make love to you all night. I love you.”

  “I love you too.”

  Epilogue

  One Month Later…

“Daniela’s here,” Isaac said as he followed the delicious smells coming from their conference room. He laughed at how all the bounty hunters dropped what they were doing to rush for the food.

It wasn’t the first time Daniela made the whole company lunch. She liked to spoil them. At first she brought in the lunches as a thank you for them helping her. Then she got to know the bounty hunters and now she seemed to enjoy cooking for them all the time.

Daniela smiled up at Isaac. “You’ve been working out?” She noticed that Isaac was sporting muscles, more than usual.

“Yeah, Vic’s got me training hard. He doesn’t want me to be out in the field and get caught unable to defend myself,” he told her.

“That makes sense. Where’s Jagger and Vic?” She started dishing out bowls of the stew she had made for them.

“Jagger took a perp to lockup and should be back any time. Vic’s in his office as usual,” Abe said as he grabbed a bowl.

Daniela scooped some of the delicious stew into a bowl and grabbed a spoon. She took it to the office. The door was closed so she knocked.

“Come in!” Vic yelled, not looking away from his computer at first. But then the smell of food reached him and he was suddenly looking up at the door. “Daniela. Good to see you.”

She smiled as she walked inside and placed the bowl down in front of him. “You too. But you’re always working too hard. When’s the last time you took a vacation?”

“Vacation? What’s that?” He immediately scooped a spoonful of stew into his mouth. He moaned and closed his eyes. “Oh God, that’s so good. If you weren’t taken by my cousin I would have to steal you away.”

“Never going to happen, cuz,” Jagger growled from the doorway. He reached for Daniela and took her in his arms. “Hey, baby.”

“Hi.” Daniela could say anything more because Jagger took her lips in a deep soul stealing kiss.

“Come on, guys. Give me a break.” Vic always felt a pang of envy whenever he saw Jagger and Daniela together. They had grown close over the last month. Jagger had insisted she move in with him. Vic knew Jagger was serious because he planned to take her to meet his parents. It was just a matter of time before they got married.

He was happy for his cousin, but he longed for someone of his own. What the hell was he thinking? He didn’t need a relationship. He was better off on his own. Besides, what woman would handle his shit? He was startled from his depressing thoughts by his phone.

  “Vic here.”

“Vic, we have a situation that needs your personal attention.”

“Fine, I’ll meet you at the usual spot.” He hung up and stood.

“Do you need me?” Jagger asked.

“No, I got this.” There wasn’t much Vic couldn’t handle.

  Excerpt from Katieran Prime

  Katieran Prime Book One

  by KD Jones

“We have a security breach in the interview room!” The lieutenant sounded out of breath.

“I’m on my way!” He looked at Ren and knew he had heard about the breach. Ren nodded that he was coming too.

The two men turned to run at full speed toward the hotel ballroom that was being used to conduct the interviews. As soon as they burst through the double doors, they both came to a screeching halt. They were unprepared for what met their eyes.

About fifteen Earth females stood cowering against the walls of the interview room. That wasn’t what caught their immediate attention. Near the center of the room were six Earth females standing in a tight circle, with one lone female standing in the center of the protective circle. The female seemed to be swaying slightly.

  Katieran warriors surro
unded the circle of Earth females, giving commands to the females to calm themselves, to which the Earth females responded by shouting back at the warriors to shove something up. . . Ren wasn’t exactly up on Earth vernacular. One female, with a brunette braid falling midway down her back and dressed in Earth’s warrior attire, seemed more aggressive. As two Katieran warriors advanced towards her, the female warrior took them both down to the floor.

Ren looked at his brother, who seemed just as shocked as he was.

“By the fiery flames of Kitana, what is happening here?” The commander looked at the nearest lieutenant who was sweating fiercely. “Why are the females acting this way?”

The lieutenant looked at both the Prime Leader and the Prime Commander and hated that he was the one having to explain the situation. “Prime Commander, those seven females came in right at the end of the interview session. The medics had been dismissed, so the females were not given the translators. We tried to explain the interviews were over, but they did not understand without the translators.”

The lieutenant continued, “We noticed right away the female in the middle of the circle was breeding and seemed very sick. We tried to get her to come with us to have the medics check her out. She did not understand and feared us. The female warrior took a protective stance and the other five females joined her and formed a protective circle. The female breeding looks to be in very bad shape.”
