Chapter 1
Shaniqua was standing in the same spot with the pregnancy test still in her hand. Her heart had sunk to the floor and this felt like a total nightmare for her and Ronny both. Never in a million and one years would they have ever thought one of their kids would be a teen parent. In Shaniqua’s heart, she just knew it was Shaniyah’s test. She felt it in her bones and apparently, Ronny felt the same way.
“Shaniyah, I’m ‘bout to fuck you up!” Ronny roared as he took a step towards her. Shaniyah dashed to the other side of the room before he had a chance to get to her. She was crying and shaking uncontrollably, and flat out feared for her life. Ronny was about to kill her if she didn’t speak up, and she knew it.
“But Daddy, that’s not mine!” Shaniyah cried out. Ronny stopped in his tracks and just glared at her. He wanted to believe that his baby girl wouldn’t be that stupid to have gone out and gotten herself into that kind of trouble. Ronny would’ve rather for it to have been Ray’Shun and Trinity that was expecting instead one of his daughters; and badly as Shaniqua hated to admit it, so did she.
“Well if it’s not yours then who’s the fuck is it?” Shaniqua had finally found her voice. She still wasn’t convinced that it wasn’t Shaniyah’s test. In fact, she knew without a doubt that it wasn’t Trinity’s because she took her to the doctor herself a few months ago, to get her put onto some birth control pills. She got a full exam as well while she was there, and she wasn’t pregnant, then.
“Is that test yours?” Ray’Shun asked Trinity. Throwing her hands in the air as if she had nothing to do with it, Trinity shook her head, indicating that it wasn’t hers.
“No. I’m on birth control and I had a pregnancy test done before they put me on,” she explained. This was the first time Ray’Shun had heard anything about her being on birth control, or her going to the doctor. Not that he was upset or anything.
“Yeah, I took her myself and she wasn’t then, unless her ass hasn’t been taking those damn pills,” Shaniqua co-signed, as she gave Trinity the look of death. Shaniyah was standing on the opposite side of the living room still sobbing loudly, while shaking.
“Mama Shan, it’s not mine,” Trinity said. She was now crying as well because she couldn’t believe that she was getting accused of not taking her pills.
“Somebody better speak up on this shit, right now! Whose test is this?” Shaniqua asked angrily. Folding her arms underneath her breasts, she continued to look from Shaniyah to Trinity, and neither one was budging. “Oh, so ain’t nobody gon’ say shit?” she asked.
“Aight. Y’all lil mothafuckas wanna play with me,” Ronny said then turned to walk up the stairs. He was furious and returned momentarily, fully dressed. “Better not nobody leave this fucking house!” With that, he walked out the door. Shaniqua didn’t know where he was going but while he was gone, she was planning on getting some answers.
“Destiny, Ni-Ni and RJ, go upstairs!” she instructed. Once they were gone out the room, Shaniqua began talking. “So who the fuck is Kush, Niyah?” It seems no one was going to own up to the pregnancy test so might as well see what it was that had Ray’Shun ready to kill his little sister.
“Some nigga that got her out here being a ho!” Ray’Shun mumbled. Without warning, Shaniqua threw the piss on a stick and hit him dead in the forehead with it. “Damn ma!” he shouted.
“What the fuck did I tell you, boy? I don’t give a damn what she does or how mad you are at her, don’t keep calling my child out her fucking name. I don’t see you calling those lil bitches you running around here with that shit, so don’t call neither one of my kids that bullshit. Do I make myself clear?” Shaniqua was pissed in more ways than one. Yes, she was upset with Shaniyah, but at the end of the day, she was still her daughter and Ray’Shun wasn’t about to keep disrespecting her.
Dropping his head, Ray’Shun said nonchalantly, “Yeah, I hear you!”
“Now, let this be the last time I tell you that!” Shaniqua didn’t know if Trinity felt some type of way from what she said, but at the time she didn’t care. It is what it was. Nobody was giving a damn about her feelings, nowadays. “Shaniyah, if I ask you one more time, I’m whooping your ass again. Don’t keep standing there like you don’t fucking hear me.”
“Gosh Niyah, why don’t you just tell her,” said Trinity. Shaniyah wanted to go off on Trinity and tell her to mind her own business, but she was too shaken up to smart mouth anyone. She was getting accused of being pregnant and she still had to figure out a way to tell her mother that Kush was her boyfriend. At the moment, Shaniyah wished she could just drop dead.
“He’s just a friend, Ma,” she simply stated, nervously.
“Ha, just a friend, huh? So, you fucking your friends now? And don’t say you ain’t because you skipped s
chool with the nigga today and ain’t no telling what else yo’ gullible ass been doing with the mothafucka.” Hearing Ray’Shun continue to stand there and curse in front of her made Shaniqua want to slap fire from his ass, but checking him would have to wait for another day; she had bigger fish to fry.
Pop!
Shaniqua struck Shaniyah across her back so hard it damn near knocked the breath out of her. “So, you skipping school to be with some nigga?” she asked what she already had assumed.
“Ouch Mama,” Shaniyah cried out in pain. “Ray’Shun lying ma. I swear, I didn’t. Kush is just my friend I used to go to school with.” Shaniyah had now ran to the opposite side of the room once again. Her back was stinging and she was pretty sure her mom had placed a whelp there.
“He ain’t lying!” Shaniqua knew damn well Ray’Shun was telling the truth. She been knowing Shaniyah was talking to someone because of the way her attitude had suddenly changed. “You might as well gon’ up there and get ready for this ass whooping.”
“But Mama, Ray’Shun is lying! I can’t believe you about to whoop me over something his stupid self, made up. Please, Mama. I ain’t even did nothing! How did we even go from that pregnancy test to this?” Shaniyah was trying to talk her way out of that butt whooping. Shaniqua couldn’t believe she was trying to insult her intelligence like that. It was very obvious that Shaniyah was having sex or something of that nature. If she wasn’t having sex then, she was damn near close to it.
“You know what Niyah?! I’m not even about to deal with this bullshit. This is between you and Ronny.” Throwing her hands in the air, Shaniqua said, “I’m done.” With that, she headed downstairs to Ronny’s man cave. She was in serious need of a blunt. Good Ronny had some already rolled blunts, because she was in no shape to roll one.
Once Shaniqua was done with the blunt, she headed back upstairs; it was around the same time Ronny was walking through the front door. Shaniyah, Trinity and Ray’Shun was still sitting in the living room, quietly.
“Here. Go take this and you better pee on the shit.” Ronny tossed a pregnancy test to Shaniyah, Trinity then Shaniqua; but hers hit the floor because she didn’t even attempt to catch it.
“I ain’t taking that bullshit! The fuck I look like?! You know it ain’t nobody but one of these hot ass kids,” she said as she went into the kitchen to make herself a stiff drink. Ronny knew she was upset, and he felt it wasn’t her that was pregnant. Shaniqua was on birth control and the fact that he’d just personally brought her some tampons home, made him believe that it was definitely not her.
When Shaniyah came out the bathroom, she laid the test on the coffee table and once Trinity went and pissed on the stick, she came back out and did the same thing. After a few minutes of silence, Ronny picked up the first test, which was Shaniyah’s. Looking at it, he breathed a sigh of relief and passed it to Shaniqua. She did the same. It would hurt if Ray’Shun had a baby on the way, but not nearly as much as it would if it was Shaniyah’s young ass.
“Wait a damn minute!” Ronny said as he passed the stick to Shaniqua. “Y’all better not be fucking with me. Did both of y’all pee on these tests or use water?” Once they both announced that they peed on the stick, Ronny and Shaniqua looked at one another then took off up the stairs. Shaniqua was sure to grab the extra pregnancy test off the floor that Ronny had originally got for her. “Get yo’ ass up and go take this!” was all Ronny said when he entered into Destiny’s room, catching her off guard.
Snatching the test out Shaniqua’s hand, Ronny tossed it to his daughter. Destiny looked at it with widened eyes because she knew for a fact that her father and stepmother were about to murder her once they find out that it was indeed her that put the pregnancy test in their bathroom trashcan.
How could I have been so stupid? Destiny wondered to herself.
Her boyfriend, Man, had gotten her the test the day before. Being that he no longer attended that school, he had one of his homies to give it to Destiny. She was kind of skeptical because that was something she wanted to keep between the both of them. She hadn’t even told Shaniyah that she and Man had been intimate before because she was that private about her affair. She knew something was wrong when she skipped her cycle a month prior. That was something that never happened the whole year she’d been having those things. Terrified, she went to Man. Destiny had heard plenty of times how if you didn’t have a cycle, you were more than likely pregnant.
She hadn’t been sick or anything so she wasn’t trying to believe that was the case. Doing some research on Google, she learned that nine times out of ten, it was true. Not to mention, Man had heard the same thing, so he wasted no time getting her the test. No, he wasn’t ready to be a father, but if she was, he had no other choice but to step up and be a man at his young age.
“Get yo’ mothafuckin’ ass up and go take that damn test!” Ronny said once again, startling her. This time, he added a little more bass to his voice.
Should I just tell them, or just go ahead and take the test? Destiny questioned herself. Getting off the bed, she decided to head to the bathroom. “Yes sir,” she finally said.
Shaniqua remained quiet until Destiny went into the bathroom that was attached in the middle of hers and Shaniyah’s room. Once the door closed and locked, Shaniqua then turned to her husband.
“You do know it’s hers, right?” she asked him with a raised brow. It was written all over Destiny’s face that she was guilty; and the fact that it took her forever and a day to get her little ass up and go take the test was a dead giveaway.
Ronny didn’t say anything as he looked at his watch. He was growing impatient and was minutes away from going into beast mode and kicking the damn bathroom door clean off the hinges.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
“It don’t take that fucking long to piss on that shit. Open this gotdamn door, Destiny!” Ronny banged on the door. He was pissed beyond words. Hearing the lock being unlocked, the door finally opened.
“I’m sorry,” was all Destiny whispered as she held out the pregnancy test with shaky hands. Tears were streaming down her face and she couldn’t even look at them.
“Son of a bitch!” Ronny shouted as he punched the wall, leaving a big hole there. “Mothafuckin’ pregnant?” he then yelled as he stared into Destiny’s face.
“Destiny,” Shaniqua said in a hushed tone with disbelief and disappointment dripping from her voice. She took the test out Destiny’s hand and just stared at it. Out of all people, Destiny was the one that was pregnant. That was a shocker because she was just so quiet and innocent like.
“Yo’ ass ain’t even fourteen yet, and you mothafuckin’ pregnant? What the fuck yo’ dumb ass gon’ do with a fucking baby? You just learned to wipe yo’ own ass good, so how you gon’ care for another mothafucka?” Ronny was now pacing around the room like a mad man.
“Ronny, baby, just calm down,” said Shaniqua. It was funny how when she thought Shaniyah was the one that was pregnant, she was ready to go into beast mode, but now that it was Destiny, she wanted him to calm down. Hell, to Ronny, she should’ve been just as angry as he was.
“The fuck you telling me to calm down for? Your ass should be fucking pissed at her dumb ass, too. Oh, when it was Niyah you were ready to fuck her up. What’s the damn difference now?” Ronny wanted to know. He’d quit pacing the floor and was now mugging the hell out of Shaniqua.
“Oh, I’m very upset and disappointed, but you’re not going to get anywhere by calling her names.” Shan sighed, heavily. “I think we should sit and talk about it.” When she said that, Ronny’s mug turned into a look of disgust.
“Talk? Talk about what? That my fucking thirteen-year-old daughter is pregnant? It ain’t shit she can say to me!” With that, Ronny turned and stormed out the room, and the next sound that was heard was their bedroom door being slammed shut.
Shaniqua blew out a frustrating breath because her day just kept getting worse and worse. First, Shaniyah skipping school and now this. She felt
like someone was playing a dirty trick on her. Like, Ashton Kutcher would appear from somewhere and let her know that she’d been punk’d; but in reality, she knew this was real life.
“I’m sorry, Mama Shan,” Destiny cried out. She was still standing in the door of the bathroom, afraid to come out; but now that her father had left out the room, she felt somewhat safe with her Mama Shan.
“Destiny, what was you thinking? You’re not even fourteen, what were you even doing having sex?” Shaniqua asked. At both, her and Shaniyah’s age, boys shouldn’t even be on their minds.
“It was only one time, Mama Shan. I swear I never did it after that. I don’t even know how it happened,” Destiny explained as she slid down the wall and continued to cry. Shaniqua hoped she wasn’t looking for a pity party because she damn sure wasn’t about to throw her one.
“One time? That’s all it takes is one time, girl! Now look at you, your whole childhood is ruined because of that one time!” Shaniqua fussed as she held up one finger.
“I didn’t know.” Destiny was right, she didn’t know. She was just a teenager so how was she supposed to have known that having sex for the first time would get her pregnant, and it was like Shaniqua had read her mind.
“You right, you didn’t know and that’s why your lil young ass shouldn’t have been having sex in the first damn place.” Shaniqua said what she said and walked out the room, leaving Destiny sitting right on the floor crying her eyes out.
Chapter 2
When Shaniqua walked into her bedroom she shared with her husband, he was sitting in a recliner smoking weed out of a hookah. He held a face expression mixed with both hurt and anger. Sighing, she sat down on his side of the bed so she could be facing him.
“I’m like in total shock right now. Destiny of all people.” She was just so innocent and as bad as Shaniqua hated to admit it, she wouldn’t have been as shocked had it been Shaniyah. She would’ve been hurt worse, but it wouldn’t have surprised her as much.
