“You all look amazing,” I said in a soft almost revenant tone.
They all smiled, stunning me insensible. Serina put her hand on my arm and Alethea took the other. I wasn’t sure how they decided and I wasn’t going to ask. We walked through the halls as a group. Despite my trust in Reed and Cindy I kept a magical eye out. Perhaps it was paranoia but as they say on Earth, that’s how I roll, especially with us all together.
We walked into one of the larger dining rooms, completely with ballroom floor, and took a seat at the head table. Everyone in the room sat after we did. There were a lot of mages in this room, a few visiting mayors, roving mages, mages from the battle, and quite a few new ones I didn’t recognize.
Serina spoke loudly enough to be heard by all in a strong voice, “We have call to celebrate. A threat to this world that hung over our heads long enough to become mere legend, has been met and banished thanks to many of you here in this room.”
There was cheering and fists banging the tables. Serina waited patiently for them to settle down.
“We will also celebrate the lives tonight that were given in our defense. They will be honored and take their places in our histories. There is much yet to be done to ensure our place and protect our kingdom, but tonight we put that aside and rejoice. Let the feast begin!”
The night went well, they brought out course after course and there was much drink. It was one of the few times I’ve regretted the fact alcohol didn’t affect me all that much. My body just processed it too quickly. Still, I relaxed my guard… slightly, and enjoyed myself very much. I had opportunity to be thankful for my endless stamina as all five of them kept me on the dance floor most of the night. It was very late that night when we finally turned in, and then mussing and undressing began…
The next few weeks went well. I spent most of my time and effort on my mates, especially those that weren’t with me for that month long trip. Not only as a group, but I made the time to take them all out separately. Nothing was more important to me than family.
There was a lot more to do however. I resumed my spell craft studies, and our morning work outs. I also spent time in the city on my various businesses which all grew under Sienna’s care in my absence. We kept an eye on the horde as well as the Rhimera Empire. I felt a little guilty about that, letting our enemies destroy each other, and I felt the weight of all the commoner deaths that were occurring. Still, the blame lay with the Empress, and the Emperor before her.
Over the next few weeks several towns were destroyed to a man. On the good side, there were now less than thirty thousand in their army and the empire wouldn’t have the troops to invade Cirenthia for at least a generation or two once the rest of the battles played out. I had no doubt the empire would stop them at the capitol if not before.
The southern part of their empire would be mostly preserved, but not the soldiers. They had been called up to defend. They would rebuild and perhaps become a threat again, but right now we were above them on the curve. I know Serina had plans to keep it that way as we slowly made progress moving Cirenthia to a military footing.
The bad side was about fifteen thousand of the goblin horde’s losses weren’t deaths but desertion. They were headed back toward the mountains. Perhaps without their puppet master some of them just wanted to live in peace. I wasn’t sure if that was possible or not, but I wouldn’t rule it out. Either way, no matter what happened to the remaining army, the goblins were here to stay on this world. Perhaps that would be a good thing, a constant reminder of the foolishness of men playing god.
At over six months Sienna was tired of being pregnant, sore all the time, and a little waspish. I just ignored her storms and loved on her every chance I got. Ari was definitely showing as well and had that glow about her and I knew Serina and Alethea weren’t far behind. So far there hadn’t been any assassination attempts, but I wasn’t letting my guard down either. Without fast travel it would take possibly two months or more to get an assassin from Rhimera to here.
I was optimistic however, I’d taken care of what I needed to, the rest was just living life and staying vigilant to protect that way of life. I had hopes I’d be around a long time to continue doing so.
I wasn’t sure what the future held exactly, nothing was perfect in life, but I was ready to embrace the good and the bad, raise my family, and make my mark.

Book Description
Marcus found himself on a new world. He managed to not only find his feet but build a family and defeat his enemies. He put everything on the line to keep those he loves safe.
But there is more in store for him. The goddess had been vague, but she obviously had some agenda and purpose in bringing him to Cirenthia. He will have to face something alien to his existence, something that
shouldn’t be, something that was born of darkness.
