  “But he’s not a lycan.”

Elsa put her hand on Leon’s arm. “Does that truly matter, Leon? Would that make him more of an admirable man, worthy of our daughter?”

Leon didn’t respond to his wife’s words.

Kellen took a step forward. “I love your daughter. I love her more than I can say.” He looked at Sophie as he spoke. “She has given me my life back. I can’t—won’t—let you come between us.”

At last, Leon’s head lifted and he looked at Sophie. “Do you love this man? Would you give up everything you have and everything you are to be with him?”

With tears rolling down her cheeks, she spoke, “Yes. With all my heart, yes.”

Nodding, Leon took a step back. “Then I can’t stand in your way.”

With a gasp of joy, Sophie launched herself at Kellen. He caught her in midair and, hugging her tight, swung her around. His heart thumped so hard he thought it would burst. Closing his eyes, he cradled her close, nuzzling his face into her hair to inhale her intoxicating scent.

She smelled like home. The new one he was hoping to make right now.

“Oh God, I thought I’d never see you again,” she murmured as she pressed her lips to the side of his neck.

“I told you I’d always come for you.”

“But you were so close to death.”

He smiled and kissed her on her cheek. “A minor detail.”

He set her on her feet and stared her deep in the eyes. His Sophie. His beautiful lycan. Finally, he found the place he belonged. With her, forever.

“Did the doctor find a cure?” she asked.

“Yes.” More tears rolled down her cheeks and he wiped them away with the pads of his thumbs. “I have to go back for more treatments, but the prognosis looks good.”

Wrapping her arms around his neck, she hugged him tight. “Oh, Kellen. I thought I lost you.”

“Never. Like I said before, I’m here for as long as you want me.”

  “How about forever?”

Smiling, he covered her mouth with his and whispered, “I wouldn’t ask for anything less.”
