Weapon Crafting Weapon crafting works in the same general manner as armor. For determining statistics, design the weapon as if it were to be used by a medium-sized character.
Decide what the base damage is going to be. Once you have determined the ideal Damage Value (DV), the character must purchase the raw materials for the weapon. The character must purchase one pound of each material needed to make the weapon per DV. Example: A knife has a DV of 1 and requires steel and leather. The character must purchase one pound of steel and one pound of leather to make the knife.
Next, the item’s weight is the DV multiplied by .8.
Raw material costs for sizes other than medium are obtained using the following information: Weapons for tiny characters are the medium-sized cost divided by 4; weapons for small characters are the medium sized cost divided by 2; weapons for large characters are the medium sized cost times 2; and weapons for a huge characters are the medium sized cost times 4. As always, the extra raw materials not used is considered scrap in the crafting process.
Damage for weapons other than medium size: The adjusted damage is determined using the following information: Weapons for tiny characters are the DV minus 10; weapons for small characters are the DV minus 5; weapons for a large characters are DV plus 5; and weapons for huge characters are the DV plus 10
The Blunt Factor: Damage is reduced on blunt weapons to represent the dispersion of energy (damage). Huge blunt weapons are reduced by 15 points, large blunt weapons by 7 points, medium blunt weapons by 4 points, and small blunt weapons by 3 points. All damage is reduced to a minimum of 1, and is recorded on the damage value of the weapon. Materials required for crafting weapons.
Fundamentally, all blades or other metal weapons are made out of steel and tanned leather (for the grip). Weapons where wood is used for a handle, such as axes, require hardwood and steel (for the weapon head). Weapons that use only wood, such as the staff and maul, use hardwood only. Two-handed Sword: Steel, Tanned Bows and Crossbows: The cost of the bow is determined by the desired range of the bow. The amount of material needed is multiplied by one for every ten feet of desired distance. Bow damage is determined by the type of arrow and the type of bow string. Weight of the bow is determined by multiplying the desired range by .5. Bow and Crossbow range is determined by dividing the weapon’s maximum range by four. The first quarter is the weapon’s point-blank range, the second quarter is the weapons short range, the third quarter is the weapon’s medium range, and the last quarter is the weapon’s long range.
