“Exactly what kind of relationship do we have?” Her words were breathy.
“A damn good one.” Carter rubbed his cock between her legs, across her sensitive nub.
“Aren’t you going to tie me up again?” Kate asked.
“Would you like me to?” He could tell from the thickness in her voice when she asked that she was hoping for it. Good.
“Yes.”
“Not this time, but there will be plenty of that in your future.” Carter rubbed his cock between her legs again, so damn happy that she liked being restrained. She was truly his perfect match.
Kate moaned and he could feel the wetness that dripped between her legs. She was definitely ready for him.
“Could you do something about this desperate throbbing between my legs?” Kate begged.
“Yes, I can.”
Carter thrust into her slowly, letting her cunt stretch around him, and she clung to him so damn tight he almost lost it right there.
When the entire length of his cock was deep inside her, surrounded by her heat and wetness, he stopped moving.
“Thank you,” she whispered and he wished he could see her eyes, see what she was thinking.
“For what?” He should be the one thanking her.
“For being so understanding. For taking me back.”
“I’m in love with you, Kate Baker. There’s no way I could let you go ever again, so don’t even try.” He swatted her ass gently and hoped she saw it as the gesture of love that it was. She was his soul mate. He needed her to know that.
“I’m in love with you too. Have been falling since the first day I saw you, I just couldn’t admit it fully until right now.” She said the words that made his heart soar.
“I’m glad to hear that we’re both in the same boat.” Carter gave a little thrust upward, going deeper inside. Kate shuddered and let out a soft moan in response.
“Yeah, I like being in a boat with you.” She arched her back, letting him know she wanted more.
Carter reached up and grabbed the soft flesh of her breast in one hand, pinching her nipple with two fingers. She gasped and then moaned and he couldn’t stop himself from pounding into her hard and fast.
Her breaths turned into pants, and she arched harder, meeting every thrust. Pleasure flooded through him, his balls tightened, needing release.
And God she was beautiful. Sweat beaded on the soft skin of Kate’s forehead, but it was the look in her eyes, the lust she had for him that was about to drive Carter over the edge.
He could tell that she was close to coming. Kate moaned, her breaths came quickly and her body shuddered with every stroke.
“Ahhhhh,” Carter groaned, couldn’t hold on much longer, his balls tightened, muscles clenched, a shiver shot down his back as he held out as long as he could, needing to make sure she found pleasure first.
Luckily he didn’t have to wait. Kate squealed and her quim clenched around him again and again. Carter thrust into her hard, emptied everything he had inside her. His entire body tensed with the pleasure that flooded through him, relaxed and then tensed again.
They were perfect together. The amazingness of tonight had just reinforced that.
Carter collapsed onto Kate. Her warm, wet skin pressed against his for a long time before he decided to roll off onto the bed, moving her soft heat from his cock, and he missed it already.
She lay beside him, her naked body snuggled against his. Carter wanted to invite her to move in with him, to become his wife, but he didn’t want to scare her away.
He would give Kate time and then ask the big questions. Right now he was going to be happy just getting to see her every day, having her love him and touch him and giving him the chance to do the same.
Carter held her sweet, soft body in his arms until her breathing leveled off and she relaxed into deep sleep in his bed, right where she belonged.
Chapter Twelve
Summer was coming to an end, and it was a little bit bittersweet. Kate’s trip to Alaska had turned out so differently than she had expected. Sean, the boy she thought she was going to marry, came in and out of her life quickly. He had smooth-talked his way onto the first boat out of there, promising the captain money when he arrived, which she was sure his family would pay.
If nothing else, this adventure had kept her from making a mistake that would have lasted a lifetime. She didn’t love Sean, never had. Now she knew what real love felt like.
Kate sat on one corner of the big cushy davenport in Carter’s workroom. The workday was over, but she wasn’t in any hurry to leave his house. Their time together was going to be over too soon anyway.
“What are you going to do when the summer ends?” Carter put down the blueprints he was working on and sat on the couch beside Kate. He reached over to grab her hand and held it in the warmth of his as he stroked her sensitive skin, causing a tingling to start between her legs.
“I don’t know. Probably go back home.” She didn’t want to leave here, didn’t want to leave him. But there wasn’t anything she could do about it. When summer left, so would most of Carter’s customers. He wouldn’t need her to work for him for much longer and she would have no reason to stay. He hadn’t offered her marriage, so she really didn’t have an option.
“I don’t want you to leave. I want you to stay here with me.”
“I can’t.” She loved Carter, but she missed her family. She couldn’t just stay here with him once she was no longer needed. She wouldn’t let herself become a burden to him. Giving her body to him was one thing, but she couldn’t be stupid about her decisions in life anymore. He offered her nothing more than pleasure and love. He hadn’t offered her anything in the way of a future together—she couldn’t stay without some sort of a promise.
Knowing she had to leave caused an ache deep in her heart. She hated that life had put her into a difficult situation once again. Tears threatened and she blinked a couple of quick times to hold them back. Kate hated the thought of ever having to be away from Carter.
“I won’t be able to stand it if you leave me.” His voice held a desperation that she knew, that she felt herself.
“I know.” The pain gripped her heart.
“You are the sunshine that brightens my day. Stay here with me. Please. Marry me, Kate.” Carter got down on one knee and pulled a ring out of his pocket.
It was a beautiful gold band with a huge pearl in the center and diamonds all around it. The tears started to fall, but not tears of pain she expected to shed today, they had suddenly turned to tears of joy. This was really happening, Carter really wanted her to be his wife. It wasn’t some spur-of-the-moment thing that came out of his mouth. He’d bought a beautiful treasure to prove that he loved her, prove he wanted to keep her forever.
“When? Where did you find a ring like this?” It was a stunning piece of jewelry, and not something you could find in Ketchikan, Alaska.
“I have a friend who owns a boat and picked it up for me.” He grinned proudly.
After all that they had been through, the people condemning him for having anything to do with her, he was going to take another risk and marry her. Carter was an amazingly giving man, and she didn’t deserve him.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” She was being sensible again instead of going with what was in her heart. Her heart wanted to scream yes.
“I wouldn’t ask if I wasn’t sure.” He held her hand in his and squeezed tightly, showing that he didn’t want to let go of her ever.
“What about your business?” She needed to hear him say that everything was going to be okay. Needed some reassurance that he really wanted her.
“If people stop coming because I marry you, then we’ll go somewhere else, start new. We will work it out, find a way. The only thing that matters is that I get to be with you for the rest of my life.”
Kate slid the ring on her finger and stared at the sparkle of the diamonds through the tears.
“Does that mean yes?” he asked
with a grin.
“Yes! Yes, I will be your wife.” Her hands shook, but Carter held them tightly in the warmth of his own.
He was her soul mate, the only man she’d ever loved, and she wanted nothing more than to tell the world that she was his now and forever. She would deal with her family, deal with the repercussions later. The love, the passion she shared with Carter was worth all of it.
She knew he would always take care of her, always be there. And she would give herself willingly to him, give him everything.
Epilogue
A little more than a week had gone by since the day Carter had asked Kate to marry him, and today it was going to happen. Just a simple ceremony performed in the church’s backyard by Better-Than-Thou Betsy’s husband. He was the only person in town qualified to perform the ceremony, and she was pretty sure Carter had given him a large amount of money to do it.
This wasn’t how she pictured her wedding, at least not how her mother told her she should picture her wedding day. This was better, simple and revolving solely around the love she and Carter shared. She didn’t need to impress anyone, didn’t need a big celebration with a lot of people, didn’t need anything but Carter standing by her side. It was going to be perfect.
She walked across the boardwalk slowly. The sun seemed to be a little brighter, the mountains a little more beautiful as she basked in the excitement of the wedding that would take place that afternoon.
Carter asked Kate to come to his house in the morning and wouldn’t tell her why. Just that it was important.
She knocked and then walked into the house as he came down to greet her looking stoic as always. He had the grace of a king and the body of a Viking warrior. Kate was a lucky woman to get to keep a man like Carter for the rest of her life.
“I have something for you, a wedding gift for my bride. You have to come upstairs with me.” He grinned and grabbed her hand.
“You are too sweet.” He was thoughtful and kind and she felt bad because she didn’t get him any kind of wedding gift.
Carter squeezed her hand as they walked up the stairs to his workroom. He stopped before opening the door and looked into her eyes.
“I want you to know that I love you with all of my heart, and always will. Marrying you only makes it official, but I wouldn’t want to go on with my life if you weren’t in it.”
A lump formed in her throat at the heartfelt words. She swallowed and wiped the tears from her eyes before responding. “You are an amazing man. I love you more than I thought it was possible to love another person. I feel like I’m the luckiest woman on earth and am excited to have the opportunity to start the rest of our lives together.”
Carter pulled Kate to him and kissed her slowly, gently, with a passion that made her want to cry again.
“Now close your eyes.” Carter grabbed her hand and guided her into the room. “Okay. Open them.”
Kate uncovered her eyes, and in the center of his workroom, lying across the table, was the most beautiful dress in the shimmery silver material she had looked at the first day she stopped into the tailor’s shop.
“This is for me? But I saw the tailor working on it before we were together.” She had envied the beautiful dress even though she knew she wouldn’t have anywhere to wear something this beautiful, at least not until today.
Kate ran her fingers along the lace at the bottom of the shimmery material.
“I had it made after I saw you admiring the fabric. I knew you were going to be mine and I knew I would want to give you something beautiful.”
“You are amazing.” The tears began to stream down her face and she sucked in a jagged breath. “I don’t deserve you.”
“No, I’m the one who doesn’t deserve a woman as wonderful as you. You make every day worth living.” He brushed the tears from her face with his thumb and held her cheek in his hand. “Now dry your tears and go get dressed. In a few hours you will be my wife.”
She sniffled back a sob before she could speak again. “I will soon be Mrs. Carter Williams, the luckiest woman in the world.”
“Luck has nothing to do with it. It was fate that brought us together.” Carter kissed her softly on the lips, then grabbed the dress and laid it across her arms. Then he turned her around to face the door. “Now get home and get dressed. I can’t wait to see how beautiful you look in this thing.” Carter swatted her on the butt to get her moving. “It’s going to be a long night.”
Her core warmed at the thought of it. That afternoon he was going to make her an honest woman, but what she really looked forward to was a lifetime of him making her a happy woman. She couldn’t stop the silly grin from forming on her lips and staying there for the whole walk home.
When Kate came into the house with the dress, Emma and Opal were both there waiting to help her get ready for her big day. It felt good to have friends there to help her. Friends who weren’t around just because her parents were friends with their parents or because they liked consorting with other wealthy people, but friends who liked her just for being her.
“Wow, this dress is gorgeous,” Emma said as she ran a finger along the delicate silvery fabric.
“Let’s get you upstairs and make you beautiful.” Opal took Kate by the hand and Emma carried the dress up the stairs behind them. This day was going to be the biggest day of her life. She should feel nervous, but the only emotion flooding through her was excitement. There were no second thoughts, no doubts. Marrying Carter was the one thing she really wanted in life.
“Thank you for helping me out. Both of you. It means the world to me.” Kate grinned and felt as if she could burst with happiness as they made it to the top of the stairs.
In just a few hours she would be married to the greatest man in the world. What was supposed to be an Alaskan adventure had turned out to become a fairy tale come true for her.
