“Mesa, I just spoke—”
“Tomorrow morning,” she continued, interrupting before Raxcor could try to con his way out of the meeting, “you’re having lunch with the head of Resource Development. The motors are burning out for the rotating arm on the new topside solar panels.”
“I’ll take care of it, but Mesa—”
“I also took the liberty of scheduling your annual med evaluation for tomorrow afternoon. I’ve cleared the rest of your—”
“Mesa!”
Annoyed, Mesa jerked her head up and glared. “What?”
Grinning, Raxcor pushed his chair back from his desk and held his arms open to her. “Come here, mishka.”
Though still irritated, Mesa dropped her planner to one of the guest chairs and rounded the desk to crawl up into his lap. “This doesn’t mean I’m going to let you weasel out of your meetings.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it.”
“Then what’s going on?” Burrowing in closer, she tucked her face into the crook of his neck and inhaled deeply, shivering when his masculine scent invaded her.
“I spoke with Captain Otar this morning. Anson is being transferred to the Rock.”
Mesa froze, and her mouth fell open. “Are you sure?”
In essence, the Rock was much like a stone quarry. Only, it was located on the planet’s surface, and prisoners were forced to work, breaking up the stones and moving them with their bare hands—in deadly temperatures. The Aleucians took all crimes seriously, and handed down the harshest of punishments, but Mesa never imagined Raxcor would agree to send his brother to the Rock.
“It’s a fairer punishment than he deserves,” Raxcor answered, slipping a knuckle under her chin to tilt her head back. “No one is ever going to hurt you again. I won’t allow it.”
Love and desire vied for equal dominance, and Mesa stretched up to rub her lips across her mate’s slack mouth. She couldn’t begin to imagine how much different life would be under Raxcor’s protection. “I could clear your schedule for the rest of the morning.”
Sliding his hand up her spine, Raxcor cupped her neck and bent her back as he delivered a deep, searing kiss. “I’ve waited a long time for you, mishka.”
“I could clear your schedule for the rest of the day,” she amended, her pussy slicking and throbbing with need.
A low rumble vibrated through Raxcor’s chest as he gathered her close and stood, holding her protectively against his chest. Exiting his office, he paused at the receptionist’s desk and grunted at her. Likely, he’d forgotten her name again.
Mesa ducked her head to hide her grimace. It was something they definitely needed to work on, but at the rate he went through staff, the poor girl would likely be gone by the end of the month.
Then, she forgot all of her concerns when Raxcor spoke.
“Cancel all my meetings for the rest of the week,” he told the receptionist before he strode away, carrying Mesa toward the lifts.
“The whole week? Raxcor—”
“The whole week,” he interrupted, rubbing their cheeks together before nipping at her lower lip. “It still won’t be long enough.”
