You are still reading! Thank you so much. It doesn’t get much better than that.
E.E. Isherwood does it again! We’ve worked through this one pretty hard. If there are any issues with the military scenes and stuff, those are all on me as that’s the expertise I bring to this tandem. E.E. is the main man, though and I can’t thank him enough for bringing this story to life.
I think we have a great storyline rolling. The next book could be a couple months away. Will number four be the last? I originally thought it would be but the characters are so compelling and the story so engaging that you, the fans may not want it to end. The jury is still out on this one, but we’ll do our best and see where the next story takes us.
The weather has turned – we had a chinook wind pop up and bring warm air. I think we hit 114 days straight below freezing this winter before temperatures jumped up. At three this morning it was 37F, which is crazy for mid-March, but I’ll take it. Phyllis was panting a bit during our walk, but she still enjoyed the weather change. She wasn’t so keen with all the wind, though, bringing strange sounds and smells from afar.
The key to a great summer is for the temperatures to plunge to ridiculous levels. That will kill off all the freshly hatching mosquitoes. Make no mistake, those little bastards are percolating right now because the first hint above freezing gets them going. If we can get a good -20F day or two, that’ll kill them all and then the summer will be far more congenial. I hate mosquitoes. I’ll wear long-sleeves and a head net for most of the summer while outdoors.
We didn’t get much snow this year, 150 miles from the Arctic Circle. Breakup (the Alaskan term for when the snowpack melts and it happens quickly, over the course of about one week, and that’s when the rivers run free once again) looks like it will happen early. Maybe the golf courses will open in May. My old man is coming up in June. It would be cool to get a round in with him on the northernmost golf course in North America. It’s only five miles from my home.
But Dad wants to fish, so we have reservations and everything to go fishing. He wants some river fishing for salmon, but I made us an appointment to do halibut fishing and salmon fishing on a North Country charter out of Homer. I want the fish, so we’ll have them flash frozen and then bring back home. We love halibut and at $29 a pound in the store, we’ll catch it ourselves.
But that’s in May. Between now and then, more stories, more universes, and more great things to experience.
Peace, fellow humans.
