But maybe it’s Nora’s inner life—her loves, her causes, her exasperating sisters, her heart—that appealed most to readers. When I first started writing books, I hardly ever heard from readers except from an occasional letter sent to my publisher. I started the Blackbird series long before many of us were participating in online communities, but once the internet became such a meeting place, I have “met” and become good friends with many readers. (You may have seen your names among the characters who popped up at the parties Nora attended.)
