by Lana Williams

I hope you enjoyed Lillian and Elijah’s story with each of them dealing with personal issues that are near and dear to my heart.

Lillian is working through something that today we might call “impostor syndrome,” where a person feels like a fraud and undeserving of the success they achieve. Anything good that comes their way is dismissed as good luck, a matter of timing, or even deceit. Many of us suffer from this occasionally and though we might tell ourselves to simply move past it, it is not so easy to turn off the internal voice of doubt.

I hope her efforts to work through her doubt reassures anyone suffering from this problem that it can be overcome but often takes repeat efforts to do so. One of the best pieces of advice I heard was from a collegiate coach who shared his advice to his team: “Never say things to yourself that you wouldn’t say to a teammate who is suffering from the same problems or questions as you.” Keep that internal voice positive!

Elijah and his mother’s journey of grief isn’t easy either. This issue is complex and some days, simply putting one foot in front of the other is difficult. The Victorian era was the beginning of the self-help revolution. Sometimes knowing you’re not alone in the way you feel is comfort. While time does help ease some of the heartache, that is of little help when you’re missing a loved one. Reach out to others if you find yourself overwhelmed.

Stay tuned for the next story in The Seven Curses of London, which deals with Betting Gamblers. I wish you peace and joy!

  Happy Reading!
