Faith sighed contentedly and nodded her approval as Hayes’s arm came around his wife’s waist. Mercy jumped up from her chair and clapped her hands.
“Oh this is wonderful!” She exclaimed. “Adam, I am so happy we have both met our soul mates and we can continue our friendship.” Mercy turned to Charity then. “I have been this man’s best friend since we were little kids, and I hope to be lucky enough to always have his friendship. He has always been deserving of only the best woman for his wife. I knew I was never good enough for him, that’s why God provided me with a crazy cowboy to help keep life interesting,” Mercy winked at her husband.
“But you Charity,” Mercy went on, growing serious, “From what I know of you, Adam will be a blessed man to have you for his wife, and I will get a wonderful sister too.” Charity nodded at Mercy, her eyes shining. Then she turned to look at Adam and her son.
“Charles, you will never get to meet your father. But I know Adam will love you like his own,” she crooned softly to the baby. “I know he will love you deeply and raise you to be a good man. Oh God, thank you.” Charity closed her eyes for a moment. “We are blessed. I can’t believe that not a few weeks ago I had nothing, no home, no family and no one to care for me and my baby. And now,” Charity breathed deeply and wiped at her eyes, “Now I have everything.”
One month later Adam and Charity were wed in the church in the center of town by Reverend Baker. Faith pushed baby Charles down the aisle in front of Charity and the bride was one of the most beautiful that Whistle Stop had ever seen. Faith and Hayes had been sure to invite everyone. Patience and Warren sat near the front with their children. Mercy and Cole were there of course, and even Luke and Hope made an appearance having come into town from their cabin in the woods.
Adam said his vows with a full heart, thanking God with every word that fell from his lips. Charity was so beautiful and Adam couldn’t wait to take her home to the boardinghouse and begin their life together. Charity beamed up at her groom in full confidence of his love and his ability to treasure her and provide for her and Charles.
As the ceremony came to an end, Reverend Baker invited the bride and groom to seal their vows with a holy kiss. Adam put his arms around Charity’s waist and drew her close. Adam’s lips met Charity’s briefly and tenderly, and then again with more passion and love, excitement coursing through him. Cheers went up from everyone filling the pews of the small church causing Baby Charles to wail his displeasure.
Everyone bellowed as Adam kissed Charity once again. Love had conquered all.
