Blurring Lines Page 17

by Chloe Walsh

“And destroy your life some more? Take a child’s father away from them?” I offered, shaking my head sadly. “I can’t do that, Cade. I won’t do that.”

With more force than I thought I had in my body, I shoved Cade backwards and quickly climbed into the passenger seat of Anna’s car.

“Are you sure about this, Mackenzie?” Anna asked as she pressed a button that automatically locked all the doors, and stopped Cade, who was trying his best to rip the car door off its hinges.

“I have to do this,” I told her, staring straight ahead. “I need to find me again and I need to set him free in order to do that ...”

Without another word, Anna turned the key in the ignition. As the car pulled away from my house, I covered my ears with my hands and clenched my eyes shut, desperately trying to block out the sound of Cade pleading with me to stay.

Even as we turned the corner and drove out of sight, I knew Cade’s voice would haunt me to my dying day. But I had to be strong. If I wanted to survive this – get beyond the abuse and fucking heartache – I had to brace myself for the future.

I had to fight for my future …

“Don’t let them get into your head …”

“They want to crush your spirit – they get off on that. Do not let them win.”

  “Fight them ...”

“Fight back and never stop fighting …”

Overcoming what I had been through, defeating the demons that tormented me, and living without Cade was going to be an almost impossible battle.

I knew this would be the hardest fight of my life, and I was about to take on my most dangerous opponent.

  Myself.

  But I would fight.

I would fight for Mary, and the other girls who hadn’t made it out of the nest, and I would fight for me.

  And I would win …

Nikki Ashton, who is an absolutely amazing writer, with the rare ability to make you laugh so hard your side’s ache. Love you, Nikki, and thanks so much for all your support. I really do appreciate it. If you haven’t read Nikki’s work yet, I strongly urge you to do so.

I would like to acknowledge the huge support I received from my friends and followers on social media platforms when I spoke out about my personal battle with mental illness. A weight has been lifted from my shoulders, and I would like to thank all of you for that. Oh, and the Evening Echo for the fabulous feature they published about me. Thank you so very much.

Last, but certainly not least, I would like to acknowledge and thank every single person who has read any one of my books. Thank you so much for making my dreams come true.

Blurred Lines is my eighth book. This story was in my mind for over a year, and, to be honest, I was both nervous and unsure as whether or not to write it.

After finishing Treacherous, I pulled the finger out and got down to business and finished the story. If you’ve read any of my other books, you’ll see I did a one-eighty with this one. It’s deep, dark and disturbing, but it’s the characters’ story and I had to tell it in a way that was true to them.

  About the author

Chloe Walsh is a twenty-five-year-old wife and mother of two from County Cork in the south of Ireland. The youngest of five children, reading and writing was her escape as a child.

In January 2014, she started to write about a cocky, self-assured man named Kyle Carter, and five weeks later, on Valentine’s Day 2014, she self-published her debut novel, Break my Fall, for a handful of friends who had called over for tea, read bits and pieces of Kyle, and wanted to read the story on their Kindles rather than printed sheets. Shockingly – and no one was more surprised than her – the book was a huge success, reaching No. 1 in the UK iTunes and Amazon Bestsellers Lists. Chloe followed it up in April 2014 with the sequel, Fall to Pieces, vowing that this second book would be the final chapter for Kyle.

The demand for a third instalment was overwhelming and a series was born! The final book became two: Fall on Me, the third book in the accidental Broken series, was released in August 2014, and Forever we Fall was released in October 2014.

Treacherous, the first book from her Twisted Youth series was released in March 2015.

DiMarco’s Secret Love Child (Parts 1 & 2) were released in later March 2015.

Blurred Lines was released in June 2015.
