Now, the funny part about it is when Charlie asked me that, I didn’t want to say that I couldn’t remember because I know my baby mama like the back of my hand and she would have left my ass regardless. If I were to tell Charlie that I didn’t remember fuckin’ Ma’kai, she would have got mad at me and called me a hoe for fuckin’ so many bitches that I couldn’t even remember who I fucked, so my dumb ass thought that the right thing to do was to just say no.
It’s all coming back to me now because I kept trying to remember how and when the fuck did I meet Ma’kai. All I knew was that I followed her on Instagram. Come to find out, she was in V.I.P one night in my section and I took her to a hotel, fucked, and that was it. I swear on my life I never fucked that girl again, so if she told Charlie some shit other than that, I’ma get some bitches to fuck her ass up for lying on my dick.
So, here I am sitting in this room, not prepared to do this hour and a half interview because I just wasn’t up for it. On top of that, I was high as hell, sitting here with a pair of big Tom Ford frames on, smelling like a pound. Quay sat over in the corner, texting away on his phone.
“We gone get straight to the point, Quan. What’s going on with you, man? Why your baby mama out there acting like Mayweather Jr?” Charlemagne went right in.
I hadn’t even seen the video yet of Charlie and I didn’t want to see it either because I was the reason behind that shit. Charlie could handle her own, and I already know without a doubt that she didn’t get her ass beat because I’m the one who taught her ass how to fight in the first fuckin’ place.
“Don’t refer to her as just my baby mama, man, that’s my girl. She’s just pissed off with my ass right now,” I said to Charlemagne.
“It seems like you on The Shade Room, Baller Alert and everything these days. First it was that girl you were messing with, Chantel, right? Yeah, first it was her, broadcasting to the world that you had gotten her pregnant. Now you got your girl all out in public beating up bitches, what’s going on with you, Quan?” Charlemagne laughed while asking his question.
“Chantel ass was just something to do, and she was looking for her damn meal ticket. But her ass not about to eat steak and lobster off of me, besides I ain’t never slide up inside a female raw, other than Charlie, so if Chantel pregnant, I ain’t the daddy. I’m convinced her ass drugged me too because I woke up the next morning and I couldn’t remember shit,” I said. Everybody burst out laughing, but I was dead ass serious.
“That’s crazy, and what did Charlie say when she found out?” Angela Yee asked me.
“I’m very overprotective of Charlie and her feelings, which is why I don’t let her have an Instagram because I don’t want her seeing all of that foul shit that people be saying about me. So, if Charlie ever sees some shit that got to do with me, it’s because her homegirl showed her some shit or because my sister told her. But I explained to Charlie that whole situation and we were good after that,” I said, telling the truth.
“And what about the situation y’all got going on now? I know she about done with you now, especially since she got this video floating around of her beating another female’s ass because of you,” Dj Envy said.
“Let me stop you right there. That’s been my girl since I was eleven years old. Charlie got to do a lot of things, but she don’t ever have to fight over me. I know that woman and I know that she fought because she felt disrespected, not because she found out that I was once having dealings with another female. Charlie gets dick from me morning and night, so she never has to worry about her place with me. I love that girl and she knows that, but right now she’s embarrassed, and social media don’t make that shit no better by continuing to post that video. We got a daughter, and my daughter can come across that shit from her IPad or her computer or whatever. What mother would want her daughter to see some shit like that?” I vented.
“That’s true. And by the way, your daughter, China, is so beautiful,” Angela Yee chimed in.
I smiled for the first time all day, thinking about my princess. I understood that Charlie and I were beefing, but at least, unblock me so that my daughter can call me.
“Enough of all this, because I can tell that this conversation is pissing you off. So what’s up with the album, man? When you going to release some more? I swear your music is like crack, it’s that addicting,” DJ Envy said, and for the next hour, we sat and discussed music, videos, and my life, but Charlie kept being a part of our conversation.
When the fans were calling, the females kept telling me to go and get my girl back before another nigga came and wife her up. There used to be a time when I didn’t worry about another nigga taking Charlie from me, but lately, all I have been doing is fuckin’ up. I’m scared as hell that maybe, this time, she was going to throw the towel in and get with a nigga that was going to do right by her. I don’t know what I was going to do, but I knew that I needed to get my girl back ASAP.
Chapter 8: Charlie
Here it was Friday afternoon at 5:30 p.m., and I was still camped out in this hotel with my daughter. I was honestly ready to go back home and get in my own damn bed. Don’t get me wrong, the hotel room was nice and all, but I hated sleeping in bed with China because she was so wild and shit. She stayed kicking me in her sleep throughout the night. I knew that I couldn’t run from my problems forever, which is why I’ve decided to take my ass home in the morning.
Jaquan has been relaying messages to me through his sister and his mama, and I was kind of scared to see him because I know that he was mad about me keeping China away from him and not having her to call him. But, I would deal with that when the time comes. Right now, I was in the hotel suite with my daughter getting ready to hit up the beach.
“Mommy, are you ready yet? You always take a long time,” China said, coming into the bathroom wearing her one piece Frozen bathing suit.
I no longer had her hair flat ironed straight because I was uncomfortable with how grown it made her look. When her hair was flat ironed, it stopped at her butt. I didn’t want that for her, so I replaced it with some braids going to the side, with clear beads at the end of them. My baby looked so pretty and I wanted to take some pictures of her once we got outside.
“I’m about to come out now, let me just put on my lip gloss,” I said to her.
I stood in the mirror, taking myself in. I was wearing a two-piece bathing suit from Burberry with a beige sarong around my bottom. Since my bathing suit had stripes of red in it, I was wearing a pair of red gladiator sandals from Steve Madden. My fire red hair was pulled up into a tight bun, showing off my pretty face. After finishing up in the bathroom, I straightened up my area and then headed back into the bedroom. I retrieved China and my towel, my Louis Vuitton wrap around purse, and just like that, we were out the door.
6:05 P.M.
After playing around in the water with my daughter for a full thirty minutes straight, I now sat on a beach towel watching my daughter as she played around in the water. I told her that I would let her stay in for another thirty minutes, and then we were going to head back to the room. I sat down and took in the scenery. A few minutes later, I noticed a figure coming my way from out of the corner of my eye. I hope it wasn’t a nigga trying to talk to me because one, I wasn’t about to entertain another nigga while I was in the presence of my daughter, and two, I really didn’t feel like having a conversation.
“I think this is fate because this is the second time I’m running into you, but really the first time that I’m getting to actually be this close up to you,” I heard a voice say.
I looked up and it was that dude from the club. I believe Toya told me that his name was Tracy or some shit. Don’t get me wrong, dude was handsome, but it was just something about him that rubbed me the wrong way, which is why I denied those drinks that he tried to send our way that night that the club.
“How is that fate? You tried to talk to me the last time and I shut it down. What makes you think that this time would be any different?” I asked
him, all the while, my eyes were glued to my daughter as she splashed around in the water. I specifically told her little ass not to get her hair wet and she still did it anyways.
“Why so harsh, lil mama? All I want is some of your time. I’m not asking to hunch you or anything like that,” he said and I smirked.
I wasn’t even going to reply to that because what I wanted to say would probably hurt his damn feelings. It’s like, after that, I heard him talking, but I wasn’t paying anything that he said any attention. I was hoping that he would get the hint that I didn’t want to be bothered and then he would leave, but this nigga insisted.
A few minutes later, my daughter came running over in my direction and jumped her wet body into my lap. I reached back for her towel and wiped her off as much as I could.
“Mommy, who is this?” my daughter asked and pointed at Tracy.
I didn’t even know who he was, so how the hell was I going to introduce her to him? Hell, all I knew was that his name was Tracy.
Apparently, I didn’t answer fast enough because Tracy decided to jump in and speak for himself.
“I’m Tracy. Your mommy’s friend,” he said.
He reached out for China to shake his hand but my baby didn’t budge. I swear she is her father’s child because she is not friendly at all. I stood up with my daughter on my hip and picked up my towel from off the sand.
“I’m about to head out,” I said, attempting to walk away.
He jogged up behind me and gently pulled my arm. I looked at him like he was crazy and eventually let my arm go.
“I was going to ask if I could get your number,” he said.
I almost felt bad for dogging him the way that I was, but not bad enough to the point where I was going to give him my number.
“I’ll see you around, Tracy,” I said and then walked off, leaving him standing there.
After bathing my daughter, washing her braids, putting her in her pajamas and ordering us some room service, I was finally able to go into the bathroom to take me a bath as well. I had my towel and pajamas on the counter for me to use after I was finished doing what I had to do. Just as I was about to step in the tub, I heard my phone ring from in the bedroom.
“China, come bring me my phone,” I yelled.
A minute later, she walked into the bathroom, holding my ringing phone. I took it from her and she walked, closing the door behind her. I looked at the screen and saw that it was Monae calling me. I put her on speaker and then slid into the hot water and placed the phone on the edge of the tub.
“Hey, best friend,” I said.
“No, hoe, don’t call me your best friend now, when your ass done been MIA since yesterday. Charlie, where the hell have you been? I understand you mad at my brother, but why you got to make me suffer. Wait, hold on, let me call Toya because she been trying to reach you too,” Monae said and I waited for her to click Toya on through the line. As she did that, I made myself comfortable in the tub and let today’s events just take me away.
I sat and I thought about the radio interview that I heard with Jaquan on The Breakfast Club early yesterday morning. Yes, I was still mad at him but I made it a habit to always support him, even if that meant staying in the hotel yesterday after I dropped my baby off to school so that I could hear the entire interview. I’m not going to lie, it made me smile after hearing the way he defended me numerous times throughout his interview. It made me miss him more when I know that I shouldn’t.
“Charlie?” Monae said through the phone.
“Yeah, I’m here,” I responded.
“Toya?” she called out, making sure that Toya was on the line as well.
“Yeah, I’m here,” Toya replied and I smiled inwardly, thinking about how much I missed talking on the phone with my girls.
“I’m glad to see that you’re still alive, Charlie. I hate when you do that shit, though. Every time you and Quan go through some shit, you make us suffer by not even answering the phone for us. You could have at least told me out of all people where you were going to be because you know I wouldn’t have said shit,” Toya said. She was referring to Monae on the last part because we all knew that Monae couldn’t hold water.
“I’m staying at the Westin Diplomat on Hollywood Beach, but I’m going back home in the morning. Wait, Monae, where are you?” I asked. I needed to make sure that she wasn’t anywhere near her brother because if he heard location, I’m pretty sure that he would come looking for me.
“I’m at Quan’s house, why?” she asked me.
“Is he there? And do you have me on speaker?” I asked, panicking a little bit.
“Yes, he’s here, and you’re on speaker because I’m in the kitchen cooking. But before I came down here, he was in his room sleeping because he said that he was going into the studio later on tonight. Don’t worry, he can’t hear us,” she said, trying to defuse the situation, even though I knew better.
“I don’t care. Take me off speaker, I don’t trust his ass,” I said to her.
“I swear you do the most. Okay, I took you off speaker, now what’s up?” she asked.
I breathed a sigh of relief. Call me paranoid, but I just didn’t want to take a chance like that.
“Guess who I ran into at the beach today?” I asked them.
“Who?” they asked in unison.
“Tracy from the club. Toya, you remember the one I’m talking about. Dude that sent the bottle to our table.”
“Yeah, I know exactly who you’re talking about. Remember I told you that my cousin had called me because dude wanted your number, but you said that you didn’t want to talk to him. What he was doing at the beach?” she asked.
“When you think about it, I don’t even know because it’s like the nigga just popped up or some shit. I never even paid it any attention that he was on the beach, in the sand area where I was sitting, with jeans and sneakers on. That got me thinking. What if he was following my ass?” I said, thinking out loud.
“Really, Charlie? Why the hell would that man be following you? How would he even have known that you were there? It’s restaurants and shit out there on the beach. You don’t know if he had just finished eating and then ran into your ass out there. I mean, it’s not hard to miss a yellow bitch with some bomb ass red hair,” Monae said and I laughed.
“Monae, hush. Anyways, what’s been up with you? Did you and Quay fix y’all problems yet?” The last thing I heard about them was when she told me that he wasn’t answering the phone for her after the incident. I wanted to know had they progressed or were they still beefing.
“Girl, he still ain’t fuckin’ with me. You think Tracy ass was following you, I’m the definition of a stalker. It’s crazy because most people might think I’m crazy for following his ass, but this is what I have to do because he still has my ass blocked. I even had to DM him on Instagram like some groupie ass bitch, just to get in contact with him, and he still won’t reply to me. This shit is so frustrating,” she vented.
I’m so glad that I wasn’t the only one having trouble in paradise.
“Speaking of men. Guess who I was with two nights ago in my office for over an hour, chilling?” Toya asked.
I honestly was shocked to hear her say this because Toya ass was so damn mean, so I was taken back when she said this. I’ve seen some of the finest men try to holla at Toya while we’re together, and this bitch would still turn them down. A few times, I thought this bitch was blind because she was turning down niggas that resembled people like Nelly, Willie from Love and Hip Hop, and LL Cool J. So, I wanted to know every detail about who she had up in her office.
“Who?” Monae and I asked eagerly at the same time.
“Diandre,” she said.
A smirk formed on my face. I’ve known Dre just about as long as I’ve known Jaquan, and that nigga was fine as hell and an arrogant ass nigga too, but I loved him like a brother. I also knew that when he wanted something, he would go after it. I already knew about him wanting Toya because Jaqu
an had told me about it a few weeks ago when we were on good terms. I didn’t want anything to do with helping him get my girl because I knew how Toya was, and I didn’t want to get his hopes up.
“You’re lying,” Monae said in shock.
“No, I swear. I sold him his condo a few months back and I needed him to come over to my office the other night to sign some paperwork. The electricity ended up going out in the whole building, leaving us two locked in my office until it came back on. Y’all want to know what we did for that whole hour?” she asked, but never gave us a chance to answer because she answered the question herself. “All we did was talk, well mostly I did all of the talking and he listened. Like, he was intrigued by what I was saying to him. I even went into depth with him about my past and the death of my mom, and by the end of our talk, I was crying and he had me in his lap.”
I smiled because that was very touching. Now, that I think about it, if Dre and Toya were to ever get together, I swear they would be the shit.
“Well, at least somebody isn’t going through men problems. So, do you like him, Toya? Because we know how your ass is,” Monae said.
I shook my head in agreement as if they could see me through the phone.
“Girl, I don’t know what it is, but it’s something. The first night I even saw him was the night they had that party for him at the club, and then I ran into him the next day when I sold him the house. It’s like every time I’m around him, I get these butterflies in my stomach. But, I can’t help but to be mean around his ass because I’m scared that if I let my guard down, I will be on the phone with you bitches, sounding like some hurt hoes because I got my heart broke.”
She laughed and Monae and I laughed too.
“Fuck you, Toya,” I said, laughing because Monae and I were going through our little “hurt hoe” stage. I knew I was hurt when I had Pandora on the slow jams radio station. “That nigga is going to turn you out, though. You know what these little hoes be calling him, right?” I asked Toya.
