“I don’t care,” she said, with a dismissive wave. She looked up at me and bit her lip, smiling suddenly as she took a step towards me. “In fact, I like it when you talk rough.”
“Talk rough?” I replied, chuckling.
“Yeah,” she said, her voice lowering as she reached out and touched my arm. My eyes landed on her hand, watching with disbelief as she squeezed my bicep. “You’re strong, too, aren’t you?”
“Sure,” I replied, confusion clouding my brain.
“I bet you could just throw me around like a pillow, if you wanted to,” she said, flashing a coy smile up at me.
Abruptly, I grabbed her hand and pulled it from my skin, her fingertips sliding across me like a velvet rope.
“What are you doing?” I demanded.
“I’m tired, Blade,” she said, exhaling. “Lucky is exhausting. She never listens. She goes against everything I suggest. I don’t even know why I’m here, she won’t let me do my job. If she didn’t pay me three times the average industry rate, I’d be gone.”
“She’s going through a rough time,” I said.
“A rough time? She’s in there banging one of the hottest guys I’ve ever seen! If you ask me, she doesn’t have it so badly.”
“You think Ziggy’s hot?” I asked, raising an amused brow.
“Well, yeah, you all are, in your own ways.”
“You think I’m hot?” I asked, teasingly. Shit, what was I doing? The last thing this girl needed was to be flirting with me and the last thing I needed was to be flirting back, for fuck’s sake.
She replied with a slow nod, her big blue eyes turned up to me, staring out through her big, rimmed, nerd glasses.
“I never get to have any fun, Blade,” she said. “It’s all work. Even when it’s not, then I’m left wrangling Lucky to keep her from getting killed. Do you know she runs off all the time? In the middle of the night? Without telling anybody where she’s going?”
“That’s too bad,” I said, shifting my feet again, hoping the swelling I suddenly felt in my jeans would disappear quickly.
“It’s downright rude, and that’s not the only thing she does to me that’s rude.”
“Sorry to hear that,” I replied.
“Are you?” she asked, peering up at me. “Are you really?”
“Uh, sure,” I shrugged. “I wish there was something I could do to help.”
“You do?”
No, I didn’t. Of course not. I had no horse in this race. I was standing guard here because it was my job. I was also standing there listening to this little nerdy vixen complain because it’s my job. I had no choice in the matter.
“Sure,” I lied.
She closed the distance between us, raising on her tiptoes, her lips landing on my mine in an instant. Her arms snaked around my neck, pulling me down as I stood frozen with wide eyes while she pressed her lips against mine. She felt me resist and arched her back, her tiny, pert little breasts pushing up against me, her hard nipples raking against my thin t-shirt.
I tore my lips away, looking down at her with surprise.
“Becky!”
“I don’t care,” she whispered, looking over her shoulder. “Let Lucky catch us, who cares? Blade, I need fun, desperately. Please, won’t you give it to me?”
“Fun? What are you proposing?”
She pulled out a hotel card key and dangled it in front of my face.
“My room is just down the hall.”
“I can’t leave my post,” I said.
She looked over at the door and shook her head.
“It’s locked and they aren’t coming up for air anytime soon. Nobody will know. C’mon, Blade,” she said, batting her eyes at me and biting her lip again. “Please? You can be back in five minutes.”
“Five minutes?” I growled. There’s no way I would be finished with this girl in five minutes.
My cock was way ahead of me apparently, because as she reached down and gripped it, I hadn’t even realized exactly how hard it was.
But she knew.
She knew exactly what she was doing, too.
Without a word, she smiled and squeezed harder, then released me, turning and walking away towards her room, her hips swinging.
“Fuck,” I muttered, taking a step towards her, then stopping again.
I knew it was wrong.
I shouldn’t leave.
I certainly shouldn’t mix business with pleasure.
But my cock? It didn’t care about any of that.
It led me down the hall, into her room, and right into her bed.
Within seconds, our clothes disappeared in a flurry, and she was lying on the bed in front of me a picture of pure sex. Slowly, she opened her thighs, displaying the treasure hidden there.
I dove in.
Relishing in her every move, every moan, every delicious inch of writhing flesh and silky hair, I took my time devouring her, forgetting that this was supposed to be quick once I tasted just how sweet she was. With slow determination, I gave her every thing I had, until the juices were flowing from her like a fountain, her hips rising and falling, her moans echoing so loud I was sure they could be heard in the next suite.
When she came down, I lifted myself from my knees, my cock sinking into her like it was made to be there, the gasps that escaped from her luscious lips encouraging me to thrust harder and faster, until we were dancing together in a blissful song of passion and release, both of us exploding together, the pleasure rolling between us like waves of white, hot heat.
Her nails dug into my back, her thighs gripping my hips like a vice as I kissed her deeply, the blissful release slowly bringing us back to reality.
She pushed me off of her, taking a deep breath and smiling boldly at me.
“That hit the spot,” she said. “Thank you. You can go back to work now.”
Taken aback by her bluntness, I grabbed her hips and promptly sank myself back into her with one, smooth stroke. My lips crashed into hers again as she moaned into my mouth. I reached up, pulling her hair back, her eyes wide as she peered up at me in surprise.
“I’m not done yet,” I growled, slamming into her again and again.
CHAPTER 36
LUCKY
The applause was deafening, just the way I liked it.
Sure, I did this for the money. I did it for the fame. I did it because I loved performing. But mostly, I did it for this moment right here, when my hair was blown back by the sheer force of applause and cheers when it was all over. By then, I’d been onstage for close to three hours, when you counted the two encores. Sweaty, exhausted, and dazed, the high was like no other already, but when you added the intense energy thrown at you by the crowd at the end, it was beyond breathtaking.
Arms entwined, my band members and I bowed three, four times, before I finally broke free, waving as I headed off stage. I made a beeline for Ziggy.
His presence the last few days at the edge of the stage had made it easier for me to perform, and as much as I hated to admit that a man was making me have a better show, it was true. He was comforting, calm, and such a steady rock that it was damn hard not to allow myself to lean on him.
He was easy, that’s what he was.
He didn’t pretend to be anyone he wasn’t. He didn’t pressure me. He just hung out by my side, and in my bed, and made everything much more pleasant in the process. Being around Ziggy made me realize just how much of a drag Nicholai had been. I don’t think I realized it at the time, or if I did, I pretended I didn’t, I pretended everything was just fine. Until I’d found Eddie’s wallet, and then the facade I’d built up around me came crumbling down and I realized what a monster Nicholai was. But until Ziggy?
I hadn’t realized just how much fun life could be, even with all of my responsibilities.
For hours today, we’d hung out in bed after the signing, the drink I’d consumed, okay both of them, had relaxed me enough to just hang out in the hotel room and just be with him. We’d turned everyth
ing off, made love in the fading afternoon sun and blocked out the world, barely even saying a word to each other.
That’s how I liked it.
We hadn’t explored our feelings, or dredged up our pasts in some ancient ritual of getting to know each other by spilling our worst memories. We didn’t talk about the fact that I’d just had one of the creepiest experiences of my life. We didn’t talk about any of it, whether we should have or not.
We just existed together.
We let our bodies do the talking.
And they’d had so very much to say that I couldn’t wait to continue the conversation later tonight. We rushed off to the elevators and back to my suite as fast as we could after the show was over, leaving the rest of the Gods behind.
“You got this?” Ziggy asked Ryder over his shoulder as I pulled him away.
“Sure, see you later,” Ryder said.
We rushed upstairs to my room, locking the door behind us. Ziggy pulled me into his arms with a huge smile.
“You’re like magic on stage, have I told you that?”
“It’s all lights and speakers,” I said, brushing my lips against his.
“It’s more than that, and you know it, Lucky,” he insisted.
“All I know is that it’s exhilarating,” I said, reaching up to wrap my arms around his neck when I froze. My wrist was bare. “My bracelet!”
“What?” Ziggy asked.
I showed him my bare wrist, my eyes wide with alarm.
“My bracelet!” I cried.
“Were you wearing a bracelet? I do remember a small gold one you’ve been wearing.”
“Yes! Eddie gave it to me,” I cried. “I never take it off. It must have fallen off on stage or something.”
All that talking Ziggy and I had never done? That included the significance of the bracelet I never took off. Talking about my dead ex-boyfriend’s gift didn’t seem to be high on the list of priorities when Ziggy’s head had been buried between my legs for the last few days. So the fact that he was standing there looking at me calmly, his expression not matching the alarm in my own, was not surprising
“Oh, no,” he said, shaking his head. “I’ll send one of the guys to go look for it.”
“No, Ziggy, you go, please? It’s the most important thing I own. It’s all I have left of Eddie. Please?”
My heart was racing but I was sure he’d find it. He had to.
“Okay, sure,” he said. “I’ll have Blade guard the door. Don’t leave.”
“I won’t. Hurry, please?”
“Okay, babe,” he said. “Don’t worry, we’ll find it.”
He kissed me again and ran out. I took a deep breath, trying to still my beating heart. If I lost that bracelet, I’d be devastated. Nicholai hated it, always saying it looked like something that a little girl would wear, always joking about how it was going to turn my arm green someday, because it was so cheap. I ignored him, never taking it off, despite his repeated requests for me to do so.
Ziggy had to find it.
There was no other acceptable outcome.
CHAPTER 37
ZIGGY
After quickly explaining where I was going, I left Blade guarding the door. I’d noticed the bracelet, sure, but I had no idea of the significance, apparently. Lucky looked more alarmed about losing the bracelet than she did about everything that went down at the signing this morning.
It took a few minutes to make my way through the lobby and return to the back door of the theater. The production crew was still hard at work, performing what looked to me to be the hardest part of the show each night — setting everything up and tearing it all down, and whatever else they did. I walked on stage and scanned it, finally finding the bracelet lying at the base of Lucky’s mic stand. I scooped it up and took a closer look. The fragile clasp was broken, but it looked to be in tact.
I smiled, glad I was able to find it, glad that it would make Lucky happy. I walked back the way I came with a grin on my face. Now that all of Lucky’s work was done for the night, and now that I’d saved the day by finding the bracelet, I was looking forward to relaxing with her. We’d planned to spend the entire night in bed, away from prying eyes and responsibilities.
We’d had a dress rehearsal of that all afternoon and it had left me wanting more. Lucky was good at that.
She left the crowd wanting more.
She’d apparently left this asshole Nicholai wanting more.
And she’d left me in a perpetual state of yearning for more of everything about her — from just being able to feast my eyes on her beauty to sinking myself as deep into her as I could get, I absolutely could not get enough.
While I walked through the lobby, it was all I could think about.
By the time I boarded the elevator, I already had her clothes off in my head.
CHAPTER 38
LUCKY
The next best thing to having a great show was being able to wash it all off after it was over. Like hot bullets, the water pelted my skin deliciously. I scrubbed off all the makeup, all the sweat, letting it all drain away.
Next, I shampooed all the stiff product from my hair, and then just stood there with my eyes closed, the water washing over me like a warm blanket that I wasn’t ready to get out from under just yet.
The night lay out ahead of me like a sexy promise.
I planned to spend the next several hours devouring Ziggy’s body. Maybe I’d trace every tattoo with my tongue. Or, perhaps, I’d blindfold him, tie him up and make him lie back and take everything I wanted to do to him. He fucked like a machine, a very sexy, very fine-tuned machine that made me never want to stop. Add that to the fact that I couldn’t stop looking at him, that hair, those muscular arms, that hard ass…
My hands ran over my soapy skin and they were his hands…
I closed my eyes and felt the low growl he made right before he tensed up, his warmth spilling into me…
I leaned back against the white marble wall of the shower, a slow smile playing across my lips as I bit my lip, that sexy promise growing more attractive with every minute.
Tempted to linger under the water, I resisted the urge and sped up instead. The sooner this shower was over, the sooner I could be naked and waiting in bed for Ziggy to arrive back with my bracelet.
If he didn’t have that bracelet, then all my sweet little fantasies would come crashing to the floor, because I’d never get over it.
But we weren’t there yet.
I dried off quickly, wrapped my hair in a towel and threw on the thick, cotton robe with the little Bellagio logo on the front.
The suite was huge. Made up of several large bedrooms, each one hidden down its own secluded little hallway, all of which opened up to a large common area, consisting of a sunken living room and fireplace with a large open kitchen on one end. It was lovely — lush and beautiful and modern.
The master bedroom suite was located way in the back, and as I walked out of the bathroom and into the bedroom, I thought I heard the distinct click of the front door.
“Ziggy?” I called out, pushing the towel away from my ear so I could hear his response. Years of loud concerts and overzealous sound engineers had done a job to my hearing.
Silence.
My heart skipped a beat. Had I really heard the door?
“Zig?” I called out again, pulling the belt of the robe tighter around my waist.
Still no answer.
My stomach churned with anxiety as I slowly stepped into the hall.
“Did you find my bracelet?” I asked, my voice shaking as I strained to hear down the hallway.
Nothing.
Fear threatened to grip my heart and I contemplated turning back, running back to my bedroom and locking the door, but the anger I felt towards Nicholai came rushing forward, overwhelming me with the force of its arrival.
With it, came clarity.
Was I allowing this fear to take hold?
Was I allowing just the thought that Nicholai migh
t be nearby grip me into some weak paralysis?
Fuck Nicholai! I thought, as I surged forward, one foot in front of the other until I stepped into the living room, my chin held high, my psyche ready to face whatever I found head-on.
With a slow, trailing gaze, I took in the room, starting at the fireplace on my left and raking over the sprawling sectional, scanning the balcony, and finally landing on the marble countertop in the kitchen.
I froze at the site, my heart coming to a full and complete stop.
Another spray of roses were spread out on the counter, next to a Gods of Chaos cut with Blade’s name embroidered on it, and a note on top, my name scrawled out in a familiar handwriting that I could have gone my entire life without seeing again.
But the rest of the room? Empty.
I could feel he was already gone, that I was alone.
I walked over and picked up the note, opening it slowly, as if in a trance.
I read it with trembling hands.
Lucky,
I know you’re upset. Killing Eddie was necessary. I know you loved him. But it was so long ago and you wouldn’t be YOU if I’d not eliminated him. He was a threat to your future, and you deserved so much better.
You deserved me, darling.
Just like you deserve to die, now that you’ve left me and let that scummy biker into your bed. You both deserve to die, my love. It’ll be bittersweet, but again, it’s necessary, just like Eddie was.
Don’t think you can stop it.
You know I’m much more intelligent and cunning than any of your big, dumb goons can handle. They can’t even keep it together long enough to guard your door, my love.
Enjoy the next few hours, sweetheart.
They’ll past fast and then you’ll get to be with your beloved Eddie once again. That’s ultimately what you’ve always wanted, isn’t it?
All my love.
Forever,
~Nicholai
Falling from my hand, the note fluttered to the floor like a feather, weightless, yet the heaviness of his words threatened to bring me to my knees. In a daze, I walked over to the sofa and sank into it, my head spinning with Nicholai’s words.
