Destined to Meet: A Destined Novel (Destined Novels Book 3) Page 19

by Jourdyn Kelly

Sara became what we call a ‘career student’. She had more degrees than I had centuries under my belt. Every time we spoke, she was busy with her studies for yet another PhD. She became a highly respected professor at her alma mater, UCLA, proficiently teaching Anthropology, History and Spanish. We rarely got to see her, though Sam, Amanda, Liam and I always attended her graduations, or showed up for her important life milestones. She married a fellow professor, had children and grandchildren. But she had also made the decision to keep her Hunter heritage, and the fact that people like me exist in the word, a secret. She said she didn’t want her children or grandchildren to have to go through the heartache that she went through in just the small amount of time she was with us. I understood completely. Since we never aged, our visits became less frequent as the years went by, though Sara would send us emails and photos of her family all the time. Sara lived a long, fulfilling life, finally succumbing from natural causes at the age of ninety-two.

So. All that are left of our eclectic group of Hunters are Sam, Amanda and me. Jenna and Jeremy’s descendants, of course, will always be honorary members of the Society, and if any of them ever chose that life, I would be honored to train them. But for now, we’re happy just to watch them grow into their own wonderful lives.

Though we are constantly moving, Sam and I have a permanent home built on the land where my parents breathed their last breath. It always makes me feel close to them when I’m there, and we make it a point to go home as often as we can.

I’m also happy to report that after a century of being together, Sam and I are still as in love - if not more so - as we were when we first fell for each other. We have no problems whatsoever finding things to keep us occupied, and I have to say, being a vampire can be a wonderful thing. When you don’t need sleep and your stamina is endless, being married to someone like Sam is quite the adventure.

The first six-hundred years of my life as a Cursed One was just that. Cursed. I now find myself anxious for the next six-hundred. The one word I come up with when I think of the years to come with Sam? Blessed.

I may have been born destined to kill. But I have no doubt that Sam and I were destined to meet, and destined to love each other. Forever.

Well, here it is. The final book in the Destined series. There were times when I didn’t think this moment would actually get here. In reality, I never thought I would write a young adult novel, much less one about vampires. Never say never. Anala’s story came to me in a dream. Of course, that’s usually how my books come about. I have a dream of some abstract idea, and sit down and write. They don’t always turn out the way I imagined they would, but I think they turned out the way they were supposed to. I won’t disclose how I originally thought this story would go, because I don’t think that would be fair to me or anyone else who reads this series. I don’t want there to be ‘what ifs’. However, I will say that there MAY be a novella of some sort surrounding Anala and Sam’s romantic relationship. Never say never.

Again, I have to thank my beta readers, Daisy, Wanda, Lisa and Lee - if it weren’t for you all, I would have redundant chapters, and sentences that don’t make sense. For you to take the time to read and discuss with me, that means the world to me. I rely on people like you to let me know if the story is really worth telling.

As always, I’m always thankful for the support of my family - blood and chosen. Even though my mom knows I will give her as many copies of my books as she wants, she insists on buying her own copies. Now that’s loyalty!

I could never forget the book nerds everywhere. It’s a very vulnerable thing for a writer to finish a book and put it out there for anyone to read. I think we are all aware that we’ll never be able to please everyone. But we can always hope that people will enjoy what you’ve spent hours, weeks, and months writing. I really hope you enjoy how I ended this series.

Angela McLaurin (Fictional Formats) - I can’t believe the luck I had in finding you! You make my books beautiful! I hope you’ll always have time for my upcoming books, because I can’t imagine having anyone else format them! Love!! ☺ Jim McLaurin (Pops), proofreader extraordinaire! Thank you for proofreading my last two books! Not only am I impressed with your resume ;) but also with how personable you are! I’m still coming to you with my other books… I hope you don’t blush easily! I absolutely adore you!!

As always, to my readers - your continued support humbles me. My imagination has always been a little ‘out there’. I’ve always used it as a coping mechanism when life wasn’t going my way. I’m glad that I’ve been able to put it to good use, and hopefully put good books out there that entertain you. Anala’s story has come to an end with this book, and that makes me a little sad, but also proud that I saw it through to the end. I truly hope that you are as happy with the ending as I am.

My characters are special to me, Anala especially. She is such a strong woman, with a bit of vulnerability, that I can’t help keep a piece of my heart reserved for her. However, there are more characters to come, and I can’t wait to see just how they turn out! I undeniably hope that what I write will touch you in some way.

Currently living in the Houston area, Jourdyn spends her time writing, designing websites and caring for what she equates as a zoo with 3 dogs, 2 cats, a bearded dragon, 2 frogs, 2 turtles and an axolotl. In the recent years, she has changed her lifestyle to include working out and eating right. She now competes in triathlons, half-marathons, and loves Muay Thai kickboxing, boxing and Krav Maga.

Jourdyn loves bringing her characters out for everyone to meet. Her goal is to keep writing in many different genres, as she feels a writer’s imagination should be unlimited. Coming up, you will hear more of Blaise Knight’s story.
