Evan likes to pick me up at work whenever he can. He says listening to me read the latest erotic fiction book I’m working on really gets him going, and I'm happy to oblige.
I'm just about done when Mallory's voice rings out in my headphones.
"Quinn, we need to adjust the audio in here. Why don't you take a quick break? I promise to have you out of here in few minutes."
“Okay,” I say.
I watch through the window as Evan hands her a folded sheet of paper. She looks it over and smiles at him. Whatever it is, it’s probably got something to do with Tyler. I take a breath and drain the rest of the water sitting next to me. My throat is sore from so much use. I can’t wait to get the next week off.
Evan and I have rented a boat to take a trip down the coast. I have some plans on how I want to recreate the famous yacht scene in Sordid Whispers on it. I doubt Evan will have a problem with my plan.
I get the okay from Mallory and finish the final pages.
"All set, Quinn," Mallory says in my headphones. "Go enjoy your vacation. You've earned it."
I smile at Evan, and he looks as excited as I feel.
He scoops me up in his arms when I walk out. “You ready?”
“I’m all yours.”
“Not yet,” he says softly. “But hopefully soon.”
I’m about to ask him what I mean when Mallory interrupts and confirms the date we will be back.
Finally, Evan and I walk out into the parking lot, and he stops me by his car.
“I was going to wait, but this thing has been burning a hole in my pocket for so long I can’t wait.”
“What are you—“ I start to ask when Evan gets down on one knee and holds up a small box.
To a random onlooker, seeing him propose to me in a parking lot might be a bit unconventional, but this spot holds a special place in my heart.
"Quinn, from the moment I met you, I knew you were special, someone I wanted to know. But it wasn't until you found your voice and opened up to me that I knew you were the one for me. I don't want to spend another moment without asking you if you will marry me and spend the rest of our lives reading me naughty stories in that sexy voice of yours."
I laugh and wipe at the happy tears in my eyes. “Of course, I will.”
Evan stands and puts the princess cut diamond ring on my finger. I jump up into his arms and kiss him like there is no tomorrow, but happy that there will be.
