He moved as if to get up.

“One more thing,” Eda said. “The leader of the Complex is a woman called Shay. She’s the brains of the operation. When you get there, tell her that Eda sent you. Tell her that and she’ll treat you like a king.”

Baldilocks rose to his feet, almost in slow motion. His old bones snapped. He rubbed his jaw where Eda had punched him and then he looked towards the road with anticipation, as if searching for the rest of the Children.

They’d been there a few minutes ago. They were all gone now.

“It’s a long walk to New York,” Baldilocks said with a sigh.

  “Better get going then.”

“What about you Eda?” he asked. “Where will you go?”

Eda shrugged. “Maybe I’ll go back east. See what’s happening in Boston.”

Baldilocks, aka Frank Church, walked away from Uncle Sam’s crater. He set off towards the road, laboring like an old man. He turned around only once.

  “Goodbye,” he called over.

Eda watched him go, excited at the thought of his fate in New York. She kept watching as he climbed up the steep incline and trudged across the road. Now that he was away from Eda, he walked differently. His step was light, like a young man.

Like a man who’d just walked out of his own execution.

  Dear Reader

  Thanks for reading The Sinners.

Most people don’t leave reviews - don’t be like other people. Be original! You’re too busy? No you’re not. Maybe you just have no idea how important reviews are in helping authors to keep doing what we do.

Even a short, one or two sentence review can go a long way.

You’ll do it? Thank you very much.

P.S. Want more apocalyptic, dystopian or horror fiction? You’ll find info on other books by me on the following pages.

  I love you all!
