Ben puts his hands around Xander’s wrists and guides his hands, holding the chain, up to his neck. “Why would I ever want to take it off?”
Xander puts it around his neck and Ben turns so he can secure it in place with the hex screw and Allen key. “No ceremonies or speeches?” Ben asks.
“No ceremonies. No speeches. Just us.” Xander smooths the chain over Ben’s neck. It curves over his clavicle and sits just under the hollow of his throat. “I love you, Benjamin.”
“I love you, too,” Ben says, marveling at the twin senses of delight and pride the collar has called up in him. “So much. What about the bracelet?”
“Ah. Well, that one’s for me,” Xander tells him. “So we match.”
“Does that mean I get to put it on you?” Ben asks, his head buzzing.
“It does.” Xander holds out his wrist for Ben to wrap the chain around it, and watches as Ben drops in the tiny screw before tightening it with the same key.
It’s only taken a few seconds for them to adorn each other, but the weight of the moment is surprisingly heavy, Ben finds, his heart beating hard in his chest. Paradoxically, the collar is quite light, and he touches it reverently, looking at himself in the dresser mirror. “What’s it made from?”
“Titanium with platinum plating.” Xander slides a hand up Ben’s chest, comparing his bracelet to the collar in the mirror. “It will never tarnish and it will never wear down. It will last forever.”
“Like us,” Ben says, catching his eye in the mirror. He turns around and puts his arms around Xander’s neck.
“Like us,” Xander agrees, and slides his hand over Ben’s back as he pulls him in to kiss, pressing in to remind Ben of the wings that lie underneath.
As Xander’s lips close on his, Ben feels the familiar sensation of subspace, but he’s wholly present at the same time. His feet are firm on the ground, but somehow, he’s flying, too…
And Xander is flying with him.
