She set the drink and untouched apple aside so she wouldn’t drop them as hope rose. “Does that mean you’ll forgive us for running?”
“I don’t know. Will you give me my week?”
“No.” He started to push her back, but she threw her arms around his neck and hung on. “I’m not sure I can commit to a week with some biker off the street. See, I had a one-night stand with this really sexy rancher, and he mentioned possibilities I’d like to explore.”
His arms tightened. “Really, such as?”
“Something about a shop of my own and traveling with me when he could.”
“I won’t be able to leave the cattle year round, but I will as often as I can, and I can always come for part of a rally or show when you need some rest or a good meal.”
She leaned back, confident he would support her. “And if I run again?”
His brows grew together in a frown. “I’ll never give you a reason to run because I’ll never stop you from leaving when you need to. Just promise me you’ll come back. I’ll be there, arms wide. Whatever it takes to keep you safe and coming home to me, I’ll do it.”
“For how long?”
He closed his eyes then opened them to hold her locked in his gaze. “How about forever?”
She grinned and relaxed against him, his strength a balm to her tattered soul. “It has definite possibilities.”
