The second I look up, my eyes land on Kyle who’s got Aria straddling his lap, his hands disappearing under her skirt and her lips on his neck while he stares right at me, a satisfied smirk playing on his lips.
“You just gonna let that happen?” Ruby asks me.
“Uh… yeah. Why wouldn’t I?” I try really fucking hard not to allow the hurt I’m feeling come to transfer into my voice. But when her eyes soften in sympathy, I’m not sure I’m all that successful. “He’s nothing to me. He can do whatever he wants.”
“You really believe that?” Poppy asks.
“Yeah, I really do. He’s just trying to get a reaction from me and he’s not going to get one. I don’t care,” I say, turning back to him and ensuring he can read my lips.
I take my tray from the rail once we’ve all paid and we make our way over. I try not to look as we get closer but it’s impossible to ignore the fact that Aria is now sitting beside Kyle with her hand resting high on his thigh while she looks up at him like he just hung the moon.
“He’s watching you,” Stella whispers to me as we pass. I don’t need her to tell me though, I feel it.
I ignore her, pull out a chair and sit down doing the best I can to pretend that I don’t give a shit about what he’s doing behind me.
The second we finish eating, Stella and I escape in favor of… well, anywhere other than the cafeteria, and leave everyone—including Kyle and his new cheer slut—behind.
“That was brutal.”
“It was nothing,” I mutter, trying to play it off like it didn’t hurt.
“You don’t need to do that, you know.”
“Do what?” I force some lightness into my tone that I really don’t feel as we allow a couple of girls to leave the bathroom before we enter.
“Pretend it doesn’t bother you.”
“It doesn’t. He can do whatever he wants.”
She stares at me for a beat before disappearing into one of the stalls while I pull my makeup bag out in the hope I can cover up the truth that I’m sure she can read all over my face.
By the time she emerges, I’ve got a whole new layer of confidence plastered on.
“Just so you know, my dad has a cupboard full of guns, and I’m a pretty good shot.” The seriousness she says this with makes me burst out laughing.
“Oh my God, you’re serious, aren’t you?”
“Deadly. I’m sure we could hide the body and get away with it.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
“Okay, well if not, he’s also got some scary-ass friends that I’m sure would do me a favor if I asked sweetly enough.”
“Who the hell is your dad, the fucking mafia?”
“Honestly, I have no idea. He’s secretive as fuck but I do know that whatever he does do isn’t totally above board. Please don’t tell anyone I said that.”
“Of course not. Your secret’s safe with me.” I wink, shoving my makeup bag into my purse and getting ready to head to class.
We go our separate ways once we emerge from the bathroom. Stella toward her Spanish class and me history.
“Hey, how it’s going?” Carl asks, dropping down into his seat beside me. The two of us have occupied this desk at the very back of the classroom all year.
“It’s good. You?”
“Not bad.” Carl is on the baseball team so he’s mostly oblivious to the gossip surrounding the football team. He’s easy to talk to and he’s not bad to look at either. He’s also been in love with his girlfriend for as long as I can remember which makes him even easier to talk to. “So ready for this week to be over though.”
“It’s only Tuesday,” I say, although the way my week is going, I’d be inclined to agree with him.
“Yeah well. Misty and I have the house to ourselves this weekend so…”
“Say no more.” I wink. “I hope you’ve got plenty of romantic shit planned.”
“I’m doing my best.” He starts rattling off some of his ideas, most of which make me swoon. Although the second I realize they’re all the kind of things that Nathan would have done, my stomach twists painfully.
I had the sweet guy right there making all the right moves and saying all the right things, and what did I do? I fucked it all up. Epically fucked it all up.
The volume of chatting filling the room suddenly lessens and assuming our teacher has just entered to start the class, the two of us turn toward the front, only, I don’t get a chance to look that far because my eyes lock on a very angry pair staring down at Carl.
“Move,” Kyle demands, his voice hard, leaving no room for discussion.
“Ignore him,” I say, placing my hand on Carl’s shoulder without thinking.
A growl rumbles up Kyle’s throat the second I make contact with him.
“I said. Move.”
“Kyle, stop being an asshole,” I snap. “There’s like a million other seats in here. Just go sit in one of those.”
He tilts his head to the side for a beat as if he’s considering my words before one word falls from his lips.
“No.”
“Honestly, it’s fine. I’ll just…” Carl begins gathering up his stuff.
“No, it’s not fine. This is where you sit.”
“I know but…” he shoots Kyle a concerned look and it’s then I realize that he’s scared. Brilliant. Fucking brilliant.
Carl disappears to the other side of the class giving Kyle the space he clearly wanted, so he could drop down beside me.
“Hey, Kitten.”
“Go fuck yourself. Or better yet, go fuck Aria, if you haven’t already.”
“Careful, Kitten. You sound a little jealous there.”
I snort a laugh. “Careful, asshole. You sound even more arrogant than usual.”
He chuckles at me, sliding his chair over so it’s as close to mine as physically possible.
“What the hell do you—”
“Afternoon everyone. All ready to get started?” Mr. Anderson says, effectively silencing the entire classroom as he slams the door closed behind me.
“Hmmm… I am more than ready to get started. What do you say, Kitten?” Kyle breathes in my ear, making me shudder as he sits back in his chair and rests his arms across the back of mine, his fingers brushing my shoulder blade.
“Get your hands off me,” I snap, sitting forward and putting as much space between us as I can.
“What did I tell you about lying? I know you’re more than ready,” he whispers, his fingers ghosting down my spine until they run along the slivers of skin that’s been revealed between my shirt and my jeans. “Are you wet for me, Kitten?”
I cut him a scathing look.
“I thought you wanted to graduate?”
An irritatingly stunning smile curls at his lips and something inside my tummy clenches.
His eyes drop from mine in favor of my lips. He sucks his bottom one into his mouth and all I can think about is doing the exact same thing to it.
Damn him.
I force myself to picture Aria on his lap barely an hour ago.
“Yeah, and I will. But right now, I’ve got more pressing issues.”
His fingers move back up my spine and brush against my neck, almost massaging for a few seconds. My eyes shutter at just how good it feels before he wraps the fabric in his fist and uses it to pull me back against my seat, the neckline digging into my skin.
“Do you—” My words falter when I find his dark stare burning into mine.
He smiles once again, and I manage to snap myself out of whatever trance he had me under.
“Miss Hunter, Mr. Legend, are you following?”
We both turn toward the teacher, but his grip on my shirt doesn’t lessen. Thank God we’re at the back so no one can see what he’s doing.
My face flushes with embarrassment that we’ve been caught as I stutter out, “Y-yes, sir.”
“Okay good, so you’ll both know exactly what I just asked you all to discuss and you’ll be able to explain y
our conclusion to the class?”
“O-of course.” I smile sweetly at him. Never before in my life have I been this distracted in class.
I’ve always been the good student, the one who always hits deadlines and often does extra—math is the exception to the rule, I guess I figured that if I try hard enough elsewhere then no one will notice. Fail.
“Okay, brilliant. You all have twenty minutes in your pairs to discuss and come up with an argument.”
Students’ chatter begins to fill the room as they embark on the task at hand, I, however, am frozen staring at the board with the instructions on it as Kyle’s stare burns into the side of my face.
He turns toward me a little, as if we’re actually about to discuss something of importance and he leans closer. His scent fills my nose as his knee brushes against my thigh. It’s a simple touch and one that shouldn’t elicit such a strong reaction within me, but I can’t help it.
“W-what are you d-doing?”
He slides the textbook on the desk between us, I can only assume it’s open on the right page because I can’t focus on it.
My chest heaves as I try to fight the sensations washing through my body at his nearness, at the tightness around my throat and the heat of him against my skin.
“What are you thinking about, Kitten?” he asks.
My spine remains rigid as image after image assaults my mind of him pushing me back against the wall and wrapping his hand around my throat.
My body burns up at the thoughts alone and I know it’s evident on my face.
“We need to get to work,” I force out and thankfully, his grip on my neck lessens until it’s gone completely.
“Yeah, I guess we do,” he murmurs.
I breathe a sigh of relief when his touch leaves me and he turns toward the book, pen in hand, ready to write notes whatever it is we’re supposed to be discussing. But the second I move to do the same, his hot hand lands on my thigh under the table. It skims higher until his little finger flicks the seam at the juncture of my thighs.
“So I was thinking…” he starts as if he was actually fucking listening to what we’re supposed to be doing. “What if the outcome of this meeting went the other way…” He pushes his fingers between my thighs and forces them apart.
“What the fuck?” I hiss about ready to snap his wrist to stop him but then he pushes harder against my core. “Oh God,” I gasp, my body spiraling out of control at that one simple touch from him.
I know this shouldn’t be happening. I shouldn’t be allowing it. He just had Aria kissing him only moments ago in the cafeteria but fuck, I’m not sure I can stop.

Kyle
A smile twitches at my lips as I discreetly glance over at her.
Her lids are lowered, her lips parted but her jaw clenches almost in frustration. She wants to stop me. She thinks that would be the right thing to do. But I also think she knows that she’s not the one in control here. I am.
My fingers continue to move against her while I write a few notes because I already know that our teacher is going to be good on his word of making us give an explanation, and like fuck am I not going to have one.
I almost laugh when she relaxes back in her chair a little and widens her legs.
She’s so fucking easy to play. But I know exactly why, because I feel it too the few times she’s touched me.
Powerless.
Fucking powerless.
I continue working as her breathing begins to increase. I glance over once more but the table hides what I’m doing to her.
“Why didn’t you wear a skirt this morning?” I ask as seriously as if I’m talking about the work.
Her lust-filled eyes turn on me and her hand wraps around my forearm, her nails digging into my skin.
“You’re an asshole,” she seethes.
“Yet you’re still letting me touch you.”
Her nails dig in harder until I’m convinced that she’ll have drawn blood when she releases me, not that I give a fuck. The thought of having her mark on me only gets me harder.
“And you’re going to let me make you come, aren’t you, Kitten?”
“No,” she snaps, a little too loudly.
“Harley, is everything okay?” our teacher asks.
“Um… yeah… I really need to go to the bathroom.”
Oh, Kitten. Do you have any idea what you’ve just done?
“Be quick,” he grumbles, already pissed off with us.
The second she’s gone, I pull my cell from my pocket and send a message.
Not four minutes later is there a knock at our classroom door and a familiar head peers inside.
“I’m sorry, sir. I just need to borrow Kyle Legend for a few minutes as per Coach’s orders.”
“Fine,” he groans, looking at me and nodding to the door, seemingly totally unaware that I’ve set the whole thing up.
Leaving my books on the desk, I push my chair out and walk to the door, closing it behind me.
“Cheers, man. I appreciate it.”
“Gonna tell me why you needed to get out?” Ash asks, his brows pulling together. I knew the second he looked at my message that he’d understand. We’re the same, Ash and I, we grew up the same and we have a similar way of thinking, which is why I’m even surprised he’s asking this question.
“Why do you think, man?” I slap him on the shoulder as I walk away. “I owe you one,” I call back as I head for the closest bathroom.
The room is silent as I push the door open and step inside. Only one of the stalls is being used, and the second I rest my ass back against the basins, the flush is pressed.
My fingers curl around the counter as my heart beats steadily in my chest. If this isn’t her, I could have an issue on my hands.
But something tells me it is. She wouldn’t have run that far because she wouldn’t have expected me to follow.
The lock on the door slides open and I wait for it to open.
The second it does, I know it’s her. I recognize the dark purple nail polish that was sinking into my skin only minutes ago.
She doesn’t notice me straight away, she’s too busy staring at the floor.
Pushing from my resting place, I take a step toward her, totally unnoticed for two seconds. But my sneakers squeak on the floor and her head flies up, but I’m faster.
My hand wraps around her throat and I direct her back until she’s against the wall.
“Surprise.” I move forward until our noses are almost brushing.
“What the hell?”
“What? You really thought I’d let you run. I thought you knew me better than that, Kitten.”
“W-we… we need to get back to class. Mr. Anderson will blow a fuse.”
“Mr. Anderson doesn’t give a shit or he wouldn’t have let us both out,” I growl, my lips brushing hers as my body presses her against the tiles at her back.
“Kyle,” she warns as my hand lands on her waist and slips under her shirt.
“Kitten.”
Our eyes hold, our breaths mingling and our chest heaving as we wait to see what the other is going to do.
Finally, her lips part, and as much as I might want to kiss her, to dirty her up before she’s forced to go back to class, I’m too intrigued as to what she’s going to say to make use of her open mouth.
“I hate you,” she seethes. “Why won’t you just leave me alone?”
“Oh, Kitten.” I laugh. “If only I could.”
“What do you want from me? An apology? I’m sorry I called the cops and you got locked up,” she says totally insincerely, throwing her arms out from her side.
“Oh yeah, because you totally meant that.”
“You and Gray—” Just the mention of his name makes my blood run cold. “You were going to—”
“We were going to do what?” I ask, needing to know what she thinks happened that night.
“You were going to—”
“What the hell? Harley, are you okay?
a voice says from behind me and I freeze.
“Y-yeah. Kyle was just going back to class, weren’t you?” She smiles at me but there’s no kindness there, it’s full of hate and bitterness.
“We’re going to talk about this, Kitten,” I growl, low enough so that our little one-woman audience can’t hear me.
“Then maybe you should stop being a dick,” she suggests.
“I’d love to, but you just bring it out in me.” I flex my hips, ensuring my length presses into her hip.
“Get the fuck off me, asshole.” Her palms slam down on my chest and I take pity on her and back away ensuring that she notices when I drop my hand to rearrange myself in my jeans. Her eyes zero in on my movement and then darken with lust.
I blow her a kiss before backing out of the room. At the last second, I glance at the girl who interrupted us. Her blue eyes narrow on me and she bares her teeth in anger.
“Down girl, you can get a turn as well if you like.”
“Fuck off, pig,” she barks, much to my amusement as the door closes behind me.
The hallway is empty as I make my way back to class and take a seat.
Mr. Anderson watches my every move, I can feel his attention on me, but at no point do I look up at him. Instead, I make use of the time I’ve got until she returns to write some notes.
After a few minutes, I start to think she’s not going to come back, but when I glance at the floor, I find that in her haste to get away from me, she left her purse.
I smile to myself, sitting back just as the door opens and she steps inside the room, still looking totally flustered and uncomfortable.
“Is everything okay, Miss Hunter?”
“Yes, thank you, sir.”
He nods at her as she pulls her chair as far away from me as she can and retakes her seat.
I look over at her, an amused smile playing on my lips.
“Don’t,” she snaps. “Don’t say anything, don’t do anything unless you want the end of this pen embedded in your dick.”
“I love it when you talk dirty to me.”
A growl rumbles up her throat as Mr. Anderson announces that we’ve got two minutes to bring our arguments to a close and be ready to present.
