“If your doctor says it’s okay, then go for it.”

  “Killjoy.”

I grinned, handing her a glass of water. “Are you hungry?”

Before she could answer, my doorbell pealed and Jane called out, “It’s me.”

I rushed to unlock and open it for her, then helped her carry in the copious amounts of groceries she’d brought with her.

“Did you bring all the meatballs?” I asked, laughing.

“I just assumed you’d have nothing,” she informed me, hoisting two bags onto my counter. “So, I brought everything except wine.”

  “Because you’re smart.”

“Well, you’re the kind of girl who, instead of converting the extra bedroom into a closet, would convert it into a wine room,” she said, peeking out of the kitchen. “Hi, Sharon, how are you feeling?”

  “I’m good, honey. Hungry.”

“I just asked if you were hungry,” I pointed out.

“Well, that was then, now is now, and Jane’s in your kitchen ready to cook.”

“Translation: I’m not the one who may or may not poison you,” I said.

  “Pleading the fifth,” Sharon sassed.

  I laughed. “Whatever.”

“I brought a cheese plate,” Jane said, sliding it out of one of the bags. “Just open those crackers and we can start with that.”

As I put together an appetizer platter, Jane prepared the best meal I’d ever had in my life. I didn’t remember a time I’d laughed so hard, or felt so relaxed in a while, and by the time Shadow walked through the door, we were all pretty tipsy.

“Well, hello there, sexy,” Jane crooned, and I burst into hysterics.

“Put your lady dick back in your pants,” I ordered as Shadow grinned, making his way to me and leaning down to kiss me. I was currently on one end of my sofa, while Jane was on the other, and Sharon was back in the cuddle chair. “Hey, honey. Are you hungry? Jane cooked,” I said, moving to stand, but he settled his hand on my shoulder.

“I’ll get it,” he said, and kissed me again. “How are you feelin’, Sharon?”

“I’m good, sweetie. Although, I’d be better if these ladies would let me drink.”

“She’s on Vicodin,” I explained. “No booze until she’s off the narcotics.”

“Elder abuse, I tell ya,” Sharon retorted.

Shadow chuckled and removed his cut, laying it gently over one of my dinette chairs. He walked into the kitchen and I could hear the clatter of dishes as he warmed up his dinner.

“He’s sexy as fuck in real life,” Jane whispered, loudly.

  I grinned. “Oh, I know.”

  “Good job, Mosey.”

  “Thanks, Brainy.”

  “Holy fuckin’ hell,” Shadow growled.

I craned my head to look at him. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothin’. This is the best goddamn thing I’ve ever tasted.”

  Jane beamed. “Grandma’s recipe.”

“Thank your grandma for me,” he said, taking another huge bite.

Jane laughed. “I will. But the second I tell her some hot firefighter liked her recipe, she’ll insist on making it for you personally.”

“Name the day and time and I’ll be there,” Shadow said.

She grinned, glancing at her watch. “Oh, shit. I didn’t realize it was so late. I need to get going.”

  “You shouldn’t drive, honey.”

“I’m not,” she said, pulling her cell phone out. “I’m calling a car.”

I nodded, and she stood. “I’ll grab my stuff.”

“Don’t you dare,” I ordered. “I’ll wash everything up and bring it to the studio.”

  “Are you sure?”

  “Absolutely.”

“Okay, thanks, honey.” She hugged me, then Sharon before waving to Shadow who was still deep in his plate of food. “Nice to meet you, Shadow.”

“You too, babe. Thanks again for dinner.”

  “You’re welcome.”

I walked her to the door and waited while she climbed into her ride share before closing and locking the door behind me. I headed back to the living room to find Otter walking in through the slider.

Shadow greeted him and offered him a plate of food.

“Nah, I’m good,” Otter said. “I grabbed take out on the way home. You ready to head back to the house, Sharon?”

“Sure,” she said, pushing up from the chair.

I grabbed her scooter and placed it in front of her, but she shook her head. “I don’t know if I feel quite strong enough to use that.”

  “You did fine—?”

“Hush,” she hissed as Otter offered to carry her.

“Oh my god,” I whispered. “You’re the worst.”

“Gotta get this old heart going whenever I can,” Sharon said.

  I rolled my eyes.

“I’ll follow with the scooter,” Shadow said.

“Finish eating, honey,” I countered. “I’ll do it.”

“I’m done,” he said. “You relax.”

I nodded, but when they took Sharon home, I did the dishes instead.

“I thought you were going to relax,” Shadow accused, walking back into the kitchen.

“This is me relaxing.” I smiled. “Did you get your ‘club shit’ done?”

“Yeah,” he said, pulling a small velvet pouch from his pocket.

“What’s that?” I asked, wiping my hands on a towel.

“It’s your official invitation of sorts.” He untied the rope and pulled open the pouch.

  “Invitation to what?”

  “To be my old lady.”

  “What’s that?”

“I’m askin’ you to be exclusive.”

I frowned. “Were we not before?”

“That was relating to sex. Now I’m askin’ you to be mine for as long as it works.” He pulled out a beautiful silver pendant and handed it to me. “All the old ladies wear these.”

I studied it and smiled. The hinged oval was intricately carved with the Dogs of Fire logo on the front and I opened it to find it empty, but with room for pictures. “It’s beautiful.”

  “It’s a tracking device.”

  I gasped. “What?”

“If you get into trouble, just press these together and it will send a signal to my phone and whoever’s in the guard tower that you need help. It will also tell us exactly where you are.”

I frowned up at him. “Am I going to need it?”

“I hope to fuck not, but it’s something Liv came up with a few years ago, so every old lady wears one.” He unhooked the chain and secured it around my neck. “It got her out of a sticky situation a while back and it makes us all feel a little better.”

“I feel like I’ve been pinned.”

He chuckled. “Are you saying yes, then?”

“Of course, I’m saying yes,” I said, looping my arms around his neck. “I’m keeping you.”

Stroking my cheek, he leaned down to kiss me. “I like that, baby.”

  “Are you tired?”

  “Nope, you?”

I slid my hands to the waistband of his jeans. “Nope.”

“What do you have in mind?”

“Me? Oh, I’m gonna suck you off here in my kitchen. Are you good with that?” I unbuttoned his fly, pushing the denim down his legs, boxer briefs and all. His already hard dick sprang free and I kneeled before him, running my tongue along the length.

He let out a quiet hiss, sliding his hands into my hair as I took him deep in my mouth, all the way to the back of my throat.

I pulled back enough to spit into the palm of my hands, then went back to working his dick with both my mouth and hands. It didn’t take long before his hips started to move, and I no longer had to do any of the work.

He fucked my mouth, slowly at first, then faster and faster, until I heard his quiet warning of an impending orgasm. I gripped his thigh with one hand, the other holding his dick to my mouth.

  “Jesus, fuck,
” he hissed as he exploded, his dick pulsing as his cum slid down the back of my throat.

I continued to suck gently until his body relaxed, then I released him, licking his tip as I made a show of wiping my mouth.

Shadow laughed, pulling his jeans up, then kissing me as he lifted me. “Your turn,” he said, and carried me to my bedroom.

  CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

  Posey

A LITTLE OVER a week later, Shadow had invited me to another club family night. Sharon was still staying with Shiloh and Otter, so I’d convinced her to join us. She was getting around much better on her little scooter and we had a lock on a lovely apartment close by. It was one Sterling had renovated, so he was able to negotiate a deal on the rent. An investigation was still going on, so Sharon had to wait a bit longer for her apartment and its contents to be released.

I had just slid an earring into my ear when my phone buzzed on my dresser. Glancing at the screen, I saw it was Jane. “Hey, baby cakes, how are you?”

“Ready to kick my asshole husband to the curb.”

I rolled my eyes. “What did he do now?”

  “He bought a boat.”

  I gasped. “What?”

“He bought a mother fucking boat.”

  “With what money?”

“The money that was in our joint savings account.”

I frowned. “The ‘buy a house one day’ fund?”

  “That’s the one.”

“Oh my god,” I breathed out. “What the hell are you going to do with a boat?”

“I’m going to shove it up his ass is what I’m going to do, then I’m going to divorce him.”

My insides did a little jig. God, she needed to get rid of the dickhead. “How about you come with me tonight? Get your drink on.”

  “What are we doing?”

“We’re going to a club family night.”

  “Are you going with Shadow?”

“He had to work, so I’m meeting him there.”

Shadow had been working with Doom and Sterling all day, building fences or something in an historic neighborhood.

“Okay,” she said. “I’ll meet you at your place in thirty.”

I grinned. “Okay, honey, I’ll wait for you.”

Once Jane arrived, we gathered Sharon up and helped her into my car.

“I’m not sure how comfortable I feel with all these bikers,” Sharon said. “I’m an old woman, not some hoochie biker mama. These men don’t want some geriatric hanging around.”

Jane laughed. “You’re hoochie in your own way.”

“That might be the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me,” Sharon joked.

I grinned and we helped Sharon onto the porch and then she was able to maneuver her way from there.

We were greeted by a few folks as we made our way deeper into the building. The place was packed, but I heard Jane groan just as I caught sight of Shadow with his arms around one of the prettiest women I’d ever seen.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I hissed, and Jane grabbed my arm.

  “Don’t kill him,” she warned.

Shadow caught my eye and smiled, then frowned and I scowled at him, turning on my heel and making a run for the exit. Before I could get more than the few steps, however, I found myself lifted and thrown over his shoulder, and suddenly going the opposite way of the exit.

  “Put me down!” I squealed.

“Shut it.” He smacked my bottom and kept moving toward the stairs.

“You fucking asshole!” I hissed, trying to squirm out of his hold, but he held me tight. “Let me down.”

He carried me through a doorway, then dropped me gently on the bed. I knifed off the mattress and tried to rush past him, but he wrapped an arm around my waist and slammed the door before I could leave.

“You cannot keep me hostage,” I sneered.

He crossed his arms and smirked. “Let it out, Posey.”

“No. You’re not worth the breath.”

“What do you think you saw, baby?”

“Don’t call me baby, you lying, cheating piece of shit.”

“I’ve never lied to you, and I’m also not a cheater,” he said calmly. “Wanna try again?”

I scowled. “You’re the one who had your arms wrapped around some whore! How about you try again.”

He slid his phone out of his pocket and his fingers slid over the screen before he handed it to me.

  “What’s this?” I demanded.

  “Look at it, Posey.”

I huffed as I glanced down at the phone. Shadow and the aforementioned whore were in boxing gloves and shorts, hands up like they were ready to fight each other and the caption read: ‘Sibling Rivalry.’

I suddenly felt sick and felt my face heat. “Um…”

“That’s Catalina,” he said. “My sister.”

I shoved his phone back at him and swallowed convulsively as I stared at the floor. “Your sister?”

“Yeah.” The tip of his boots touched mine. “My non-whore sister,” he said, his finger going to the bottom of my chin and lifting my head. “At least I don’t think she’s a whore. I try not to think about it.”

  “Hmm-mm.” I still couldn’t meet his eyes.

  “Look at me, Posey.”

  “No,” I grumbled.

He chuckled. “You wanna come meet her?”

“No way in hell.” I finally met his eyes. “I want you to dig a hole and bury me in it.”

  “You’re claustrophobic.”

“I’m sorry, Nolan.” I gripped his cut. “God, you must think I’m a crazy person.”

  “In a good way.”

I rolled my eyes. “How can crazy be good?”

  “Crazy’s fun.”

  “Crazy’s crazy,” I countered.

He cupped my face and smiled. “For the record, I would never cheat on you, Posey. If shit goes south, we’ll end it, but you’ll never have to worry about me steppin’ out.”

  “Same,” I breathed out.

He leaned down and kissed me. “You feel better?”

“About you, yes. About my behavior, no.”

“That was nothin’. You shoulda seen Olivia when she and Doc were datin’. She liked to throw kitchen appliances at his head.”

“That doesn’t make me feel better, honey.”

He chuckled. “Well, it should. Come on. I’m hungry and you need tequila.”

“Oh, I’m not going down there,” I argued. “Ever.”

“You want me to put you over my shoulder again?” he threatened. “Because I will.”

  “You would, wouldn’t you?”

“Hell, yeah, I would. In a heartbeat.”

“You get that I’m mortified, right?” I whispered.

“Baby, you really don’t need to be.”

“Can we just stay here for a minute?” I begged.

  “Only if you get naked.”

“Can we stay here all night if I get naked?”

  He laughed. “No.”

I sighed. “If only it were that easy.”

He kissed me again and I wrapped my arms around his waist. “You’re gonna love Cat, baby. Come on.”

I gave him a squeeze, then nodded, and he led me downstairs. I tried to hide behind him, but my bestie ruined that plan, walking toward me with a shot of something.

“Hey Jane,” Shadow said as I downed the tequila.

“Hi. Good to see you again. So… you’ve obviously figured out she’s a bit of an overreactor,” Jane said, and I glared at her.

“More like a nuclear reactor,” Shadow retorted.

“Hey,” I growled, and I smacked his arm.

He laughed, wrapping his arm around me. “Come on Chernobyl, time to meet my sister.”

I groaned, handing the empty shot glass to Jane, and following Shadow over to where Catalina was talking with a small group of people.

Again, I tried to hide behind him, but he pulled me forward and slid an arm around my waist.

  Catalina pulled
away from the group with a huge grin. “Oh my god, you must be Posey.”

“Hi,” I rasped. “It’s nice to meet you.”

She pulled me in for a hug. “You too. My brother has not shut up about you. I thought you might be a figment of his imagination.”

I blushed, leaning heavily against Shadow. “I’m real,” I said. “In all my crazy glory.”

Shadow chuckled. “Before you grill my girl for information, we’re gonna get something to eat.”

“Delayed, but not denied, big brother,” Catalina retorted.

  “I’m not leaving Jane—”

“Jane’s fine without you,” my bestie countered, smiling at a very tall biker over by the bar.

  “Jane, you ignorant slut.”

  She laughed. “Point, counterpoint.”

I grinned, and Shadow pulled me outside to the picnic tables.

“See?” he said, handing me a plate.

“Yes, I see,” I admitted. “Drama is acceptable, apparently.”

He chuckled. “Drama in the form of real drama, not so much. But drama in the form of my woman being dramatic and cute as fuck, hell, yes.”

  “You have issues.”

“Maybe so,” he said, and piled food on his plate. “But my issues are in the form of one hell of a beautiful woman, so I’m good.”

“Stop being nice. You’re rewarding my bad behavior by validating my tantrum.”

“Well, if you can promise more bad behavior, I’ll give you a real reward later.”

  “I can’t wait.”

He kissed me again and we finished loading our plates.

As the night continued, I started to relax, realizing no one gave a rat’s ass about what had happened earlier. If anyone knew anything went down between me and Shadow, no one said a thing.

“You want to stay here tonight?” Shadow whispered in my ear.

He was currently on the sofa and I was sitting on his lap half-asleep. “No. I’ve got Jane and Sharon to think about.”

“Looks like Gator’s happy to take care of Sharon,” he said, and I directed my gaze over by the bar.

Sharon was giggling like a schoolgirl while Gator regaled her with stories.

“Aw,” I breathed out, a little tipsy. “That’s so sweet.”

“She might get some tonight,” Shadow said.

“She’s a lady. She doesn’t put out on the first date.”

“What if it’s not a date?”

  “Oh, then, she might.”
