The being spoke and with each boson absorbed, the troops knew that they had finally found the location of all the three pieces of the Brainstone.

  Ram’s story

  ELSEWHERE

  Asr Gawa

  March 14, 2017, Tuesday, 2020 hours, Earthtime

As Ram fell through the strange hole, or rather tunnel, the view of Mathias and the world above warped indistinguishably and shrunk into a singularity.

Meanwhile, Ram moved at breakneck speeds. He tried to make sense of his surroundings but just couldn’t as the thing he was in, looked like a stretched tube inside a bigger tube. Something like an extended doughnut. However, his descent was not normal.

As he approached the dark bottom, his body twisted and contorted with the tube which literally passed through him harmlessly. Ram was whisked away into the larger tube and saw flashes of light and many more distorting shapes. He wanted to cry as he felt totally helpless on seeing his body being distorted disgustingly in a place that seemed like a dark void. However, tears were yet to come just as his speed increased exponentially.

“Aarrgghhh!” he cried silently and all of a sudden, a white light engulfed him at one end of the tube and he fell on a cold floor.

Ram landed on cold metal but didn’t feel much. Everything had happened in mere milliseconds and Ram felt drained out of his energy. His eyes were shut and his life flashed before his eyes which suddenly saw flashes of light and twisting shapes and all of a sudden, he was on the floor. As he retrieved his energy, his legs twitched. He needed some force to move himself. Ram shifted in his delirium and tried picking himself up but he was too weak and fell back down.

Ram rubbed his hair and then his eyes which fluttered open but provided blurry vision.

As he shifted in and out of consciousness, he managed to roll onto his right and pick up his torso.

Finally his vision cleared and he saw his surroundings for the first time. He was in a big square room made of steel. On one side was a plethora of displays, gauges, knobs and buttons. They looked like some sort of control centre in a submarine. He looked to the opposite side and found a similar assortment of devices.

Next, he looked back and saw a queer torus shaped device that was around eight feet in diameter and was made of a silver coloured metal with blue knobs all over its body, wires hanging from these knobs and disappearing into the control desk.

Beyond the torus was a beautiful scenery of dry grasslands that melted away into lush green forests. Birds flew in the air and a few small animals sauntered around the grasslands. The animals looked very different but Ram didn’t pay heed.

He sat on his haunches and got up. When he raised his head to see in front of him, he saw a man standing at the middle of the room, some four metres away from him. He looked old and had a neatly trimmed grey beard. He looked fit and in his early fifties. He wore a simple beige cotton shirt and a pair of black pantaloons. He had a fat book in his hands and a tools box.

The man looked at Ram with curious eyes but Ram seemed to find something striking in his face. Instantaneously, tears flowed from Ram’s eyes as he said,

  “Father?”

The man looked at his bright green eyes and said “Ram?”

Ram had finally found the person he had been looking for. He had found Dr. Chandra Shanbhag, his father.
