Would that same idea hold true in this other world? he considered further. If that was the case, then he shouldn’t have to worry about the daily goings-on. He could sit back and allow everything to play out. The players should continue on this path he helped set up with such care.
Still, he couldn’t ignore the truth. That world was not like his, or any other. What he was familiar with had set rules. He understood the fair and unfair ones alike. All had a certain cause and effect. It mattered not whether it was magic or science. The world through the helmet was a different story. The rules were unpredictable; even he did not understand everything. Were the roads set in place, or could they disappear, allowing those on the path to go wherever they wanted? Only continued observation could provide him with such answers.
He glanced back at that helmet. A shudder coursed through his body. He wanted to cast it aside, but he couldn’t. Someone had to keep his vigilant watch. He had come too far to allow everything to spin out of control. Her face passed through his mind. He could still see the tears on her face and hear the anguish in her voice. No matter what, he couldn’t bear for her to go on that way. With a deep breath, he picked up the helmet. He looked at it. How much time would he lose? Swallowing, he set his jaw and slid it back on. This was far from over.
